• You may be hearing the level sensor. It makes a noise after initially putting water in, while it senses the level of the load. It turns on, off, on, off a number of times. Then if it needs more water, it puts more in.

• Apparently, this is the new norm. It makes a low pitched, whining kind of sound when agitating. My MIL has a super capacity of a different brand, and it makes the exact same sound while washing. I do not find it very loud or annoying now that I've had it a while.
