Hi Bonnie, its normal for cooktop surfaces to get hot when the burners are turned on.if you have further questions, please reach out to us directly via Facebook https://www.facebook.com/whirlpoolusa or Twitter @WhirlpoolCare. We’re looking forward to hearing from you.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I believe in our cases, we got what we paid for (one of their most inexpensive models). Have been waiting for a replacement for mine since early July 2020 (I am sure the CORONA virus has something to do with the delay). The right front burner on my cooktop will not work with the cap seated. If the cap is played with and tilted the burner may or may not light. Otherwise............am able to enjoy cooking with the other burners. Whirlpool sent out a technician who determined there was a defect. He ordered a new replacement and I am still waiting. I must admit that I do love Whirlpool products and this is the only one of their products that I have ever had a problem with. Hope this comment helps. Now to answer your question. I tested my cooktop after receipt of your question and found that yes, my lower left burner frame gets very hot when cooking also (we have the model). I would say this is normal for this model. Good luck and stay safe.
