Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would say the dryer in electric won't need as much space as a gas dryer due to the fittings. However, this dryer is already deeper than your 23" one and then you need to account for the door opening. In all, I'd allot 40" total from wall to door opening be comfortable. The other thing to keep in mind, we did not when we purchased this dryer, is which side are your fittings etc and where is your washer (left or right of this). You cannot swap the door latch and it is fixed to one way of opening only. It opens with the hinge on the left
