I cleaned the filter a couple times already, it's just a piece of plastic. so unless you break it, I don't think it would ever need to be replaced.

It's easily cleaned - shake out the larger stuff caught in it into the trash or compost bin and when you notice the cylinder screen is dirty, clean it with a toothbrush and some dish soap to get the grease out of the screen.

Please try again later.I cannot completely answer your question, but here is what I do know: If you don't scrape or rinse your dishes before putting them in the washer, remove the filter on a regular basis and rinse it well under your kitchen faucet. As far as what a regular basis is, that should be determined by your own experience. If the above scenario (unscraped plates, etc.) is one that describes your usage, I would check it once a week for starters. If the filter is nice and clean, go another week, check again. I check mine about once a month ... when I remember. Also, it's a sanitary issue: If there is food waste in the filter, well, ick, and it may cause unpleasant odors. As far as replacement goes, I don't know, but you can ask Whirlpool at www.whirlpool.com/product _help. Good luck, Woobie
