- Answer The compressor of the unit comes on and off depending on the set and ambient temperatures. It is normal for the fan come on and off to circulate the air inside of the cabinet for even temperature distribution and to save energy. The fan running saves energy by circulating the cool air to avoid the compressor from running too frequently.
