The card/PCB itself is very short, so the power connectors are technically at the end of the card itself. The remaining few inches are all just heatsink and Fan no electronics in there. Not sure why they didn't use some sort of extension, my only guess would be that it would cut into the heatsink or something like that and decrease cooling efficiency.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don't think they look particularly bad but the power connector mid-card is really a dumb idea. I have a Core P5 using riser cables for a vertical mounting orientation and it just looked hideous. Doesn't matter now; I returned them due to having Hyinx memory and just overall being a terribly poor and under performing impersonation of a 56
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It is hideous if you mount it vertically, but in most setups, it will be face down and it's backplate will (mercifully) be prominent. The connectors are mid-card because the PCB is actually fairly small, but the TDP is insane (It should still be mounted at the end, yes, but you did ask 'why' :-D )
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The power connectors are actually at the end of the silicon PCB, but in order to manage thermals/acoustics they chose to extend their cooling solution beyond the PCB thus the oddly placed connectors. Please see the photo below. PS: I think this card looks just fine, as long as the non-optional red XFX LED logo fits your color scheme. There's no accounting for taste though!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The mid-card power hookup is a bonus! Since it's recessed, it will fit in shallower cases and have a cleaner look. The X look plays off the XFX name, and saves weight...a big problem with modern over-sized cards.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.XFX decided to go with a "X" design hence the cross in the middle, since they did that, they had to put the connectors in the middle as there isn't placement anywhere else really.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I guess the look is a personal preference. In my case I have red fans and a red LED in the computer case so these cards with red in them look great. As far as where the power connectors, they vary from card to card. Overall the card that I have works like a tank.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Lol... Not only that but the cooling is awful. The mfr can't seem to workout how to apply the thermal paste and pads. Dies are all scratched and pads don't even cover the components properly.
