I haven't tried to do it but found the following on page 93 of the online manual. Standby Through Select whether to output video/audio to the TV when the unit is in standby mode. If this function is set to ON or AUTO, you can use the input selection keys (HDMI 1-4) to select an input even when the unit is in standby mode.
