Great clearance deal on prior year model. Is for a 5.1 surround setup, and configuring is straight forward out of the box. Can hookup 4 HDMI devices and route them all thru your HDTV with easy switching. No more input selecting on your HDTV, let the receiver act as the switch. More than enough power for audio. Quick connects for speakers are excellent. Still trying to equalize the audio for best sound.

My purchase was to be ready to experience full 4K Blu-Ray video, with my 4K Samsung SUHD TV in the near future, The Yamaha set up easily, and music and TV audio was improved from older Yamaha AV receiver. So now, I will purchase the Samsung 4K Blu-Ray player, probably during Black Friday sales? This Yamaha is quite and excellent A/V instrument. I LUV it!

This Yamaha receiver exceeded my expectations ten fold! I thought my last Yamaha receiver sounded good until I heard this one! The past through (HDMI bd/dvd) using 4k quality is superior! Very glad I made the purchase!

Very easy to set up. Goes right into wifi password and walking through the initial setup. It needed to update software once it was online and ready to go. Comes with Music Cast app so you can control the receiver from your phone. You can play music from Pandora and you can stream music from your phone or tablet that has the app on it. Good strong sound.
Only CON I have is you hook up everything they way they show and you can't play your TV without the receiver turned on. set mine up differently so I can watch without the thunder sometimes. Hahaha

I was in the market for a new receiver for a very good friend of mine. Her previous receiver was quite old and finally bit the dust. Since I had just built her an HTPC I figured why not upgrade her audio system with something of this era? I have had my Yamaha receiver for about 5 years now and I love it so I went to see what the latest offerings were and came across this model. All the other reviews on it were great and I felt confident with my previous purchase that this was also going to be a winner.
Sure enough once it arrived and I setup all of the equipment we were blasting music in no time via the BT connectivity. She was so excited that it was so easy. Once I showed her all the apps and how it worked she has become a pro. You can't beat what you're getting for the price.

All functions worked out of the box for me. One issue getting the receiver to recognize my Bluetooth headphones was solved after an on-line chat with Yamaha tech support which was very helpful. The automatic setup with the included mic was great. The sounds is good and the multiple features haven't left me wanting for anything more.

I bought this as a replacement for another 5.1 receiver that recently burnt out. The previous two 5.1 receivers I have purchased were the entry-level models of a different familiar midrange brand. This time I decided to buy a Yamaha, mainly because the height of their receivers is lower than the others and fit better into my TV stand, allowing more room for ventilation, which in turn will hopefully help this one to last longer than 5 years. So I went in to buy the base model which was on-sale, but ended up buying this model - the next one up in the line - because of its network features. I have now been using it for a few weeks and am very pleased with its performance. The power rating is lower than my previous one, but it must be a more honest rating since it is every bit as powerful driving four large speakers and a large center speaker. Beyond the basics of good sound though, I am really happy with the ease of setup and use, with an on-screen display that overlays on the HDMI signal so that it is really usable, a more readable and informative display on receiver itself, and many flexible and handy features for tailoring your inputs and sound modes, etc. to be just how you want them. Some of that comes on the base model too, but when you add in the network/Wi-Fi features this one has, it really completes the package with a great deal of added value. I love the flexibility of being able to use wired Ethernet (since I have it) or Wi-Fi and the ability to easily tune hundreds of internet radio stations on either the on-screen or front panel displays, or from a phone or tablet. In fact you can easily control many of the functions of the receiver from a device over the network. I even found an app for my Windows phone! And you can send music to the receiver over Bluetooth, or listen to music from it on Bluetooth headphones. If that's not enough, you can also stream music to it over AirPlay from ITunes or DLNA from Windows or other Media Players. One more thing - The remote control is very nice and easy to use, with fewer, larger buttons than my old one. Overall, I think this is one of the best purchases I have made in years and is definitely worth the extra money over the base model.

I needed to upgrade from an older Pioneer 5.1. This receiver is feature-packed including 4 HDMI's, 4K capability, bluetooth, pandora or spotify, apple airplay, and access to internet radio. The sound quality is great. The setup is pretty easy except for the speaker terminals where inserting the wiring takes good hands. The microphone that sets up the speakers to maximize balance in your music room is excellent. It responds to speaker characteristics, placement, and room acoustics very effectively. The price is very good for the quality of the unit. Yamaha did a good job.

I have a small home, and I was in need of a replacement home theatre. Instead of going for a cheap whole new setup, I kept my speakers and upgraded to the Yamaha! I'm super glad that I did! It sounds fantastic and has tons of great features. I really like the music cast app that allows me to use my iPhone on wi-fi to listen to music without phone notifications coming through the speakers. I can also make and receive calls without pausing the music. Setting up my phonograph has been awesome too!

I have asked several people including posting a question about this product before deciding to purchase it, I'm really glad I did because it was one of the best purchases I have made this year. I was having problems with audio delay in using our magic sing which was directly connected to our home theater. Someone advised me to purchase this amp/av receiver and upgrade the speakers to produce better sound. To my surprise, even with our old speakers connected to this amp the sound that was produced was awesome! With its different modes and programs, Yamaha gives you detailed sound that you want to hear if you're watching tv or movie. It solved my problem with audio delay while using magic sing, and because it's 4k ready it allows better pictures to pass through our tv while enjoying our videoke. We especially enjoy Music Cast app because we can play our music from the phone from anywhere in the room. As with the Yamaha app controller we easily can adjust the sound settings and input from your phone which we find very convenient. I love this product!

Excellent receiver. I'm able to plug all of my components into this receiver using HDMI cables. You only have to run one HDMI cable to your TV.
The app you install on your phone is great also.
I love listening to my TV in surround sound.
I would definitely recommend this Yamaha receiver.

I purchased this theater system as a replacement for my older Yamaha system. The sound, especially since it automatically tunes the room, is awesome. The Dolby 5-plus bass delivers a very spatial theater-like experience (without the nasty theater floor). I'm still learning about all the nuances of the setup which are not always intuitive. I like the screen display of settings, however.

This was a replacement for the lower end model. After having one Yamaha receiver, I didn’t even look at the other brands. The sound is crystal clear, the YPAO makes setup a breeze, ability to use WiFi and MusicCast seals the deal.

I had my first Yamaha receiver for over 20 years. It still worked fine but it didn't do anything modern - like play bluetooth devices or internet radio. So I bought this item and I love it. I'm pretty geeky but setting it up was time-consuming. There is a lot to learn about the machine and a few settings that seem to overlap. I don't understand everything completely but it's all running fine.
The interface with other components like my smart TV, satellite radio, and DVD are all clean and the sound is very good. The tuner has really good reception too, which isn't always the case in a NYC apartment. The speaker setup mode allows you to tell the system the distance you are from each speaker so the sound is correct. That makes it much easier than having to perfectly position the speakers or yourself when that can be difficult.
Two improvements I'd make would be to add one more AV (audio) jack; there are only three. It seems like a lot to ask but for those of us who still have some older equipment, like my turntable, that would be very helpful. I just can't use HDMI with all my equipment. Also, some of the literature I read before I purchased this receiver indicated that it had built-in SiriusXM functionality but the V481 does not. It has Pandora and Spotify and access to internet radio among other things. Since I currently have an XM radio at home, I thought it would be nice to move over to broadcasting directly through the receiver and getting rid of the radio but I can't. Yamaha could fix that with a firmware upgrade.
But I have no serious complaints. A great buy!

Excellent receiver that has WiFi and Bluetooth built-in. Easy to setup and delivers full features that are found in more expensive units. Nice, easy to use app. I upgraded to this unit from an older Yamaha receiver. This model has more setup features and other useful settings.
