Connecting the Yamaha RX-V481 receiver to your home network does not require an attached TV. You can configure your connection to either Ethernet or WiFi using the front display panel. A TV connected to the Yamaha (HDMI connection only for this function) will greatly enhance your ease of use both during network configuration and playback of your music. Once your RX-V481 is connected to your home network/internet you can play music from any streaming internet radio station or any music stored on your PC (using Windows Media Player as a server.) If you have an HDMI connected TV you will see your music selection on the screen along with any graphic art the album/song pulls from the internet. The song titles also display on the receiver's front panel (which is very cool.) So, short answer, no TV needed. Suggested answer, use an HDMI connected TV if you can.
