The USB port can be used to play music off of storage drives.

Once you have a music file transferred to hard drive or thumb drive, you can play the stored music file using any of the various music players available on the worldwide web. Just plug the thumb drive into the USB port on your computer and you will be able to play songs using any of the various music players available on the worldwide web. I prefer Music Bee. It is free and is very easy to use. Music Bee will play wave files as well as compressed files like mp3, AAC, Ogg, flac, etc. Windows Media Player, VLC Player, and Apple itunes player are some of the other music players that you can use. All of these will play wave files, but won't play all of the various compressed file formats. The reason that I use Music Bee is that it will play just about any music format...and therefore you do not have to convert files from one format to another in order to listen to them. All music players will play wave files. The problem is that wave files are use up a great deal of space on a hard drive or thumb drive. You can convert a wave file to flac (lossless) format which can be played on just about any music player available today. Music Bee does NOT have the ability to convert files from one format to another. To do that you'll need a music converter program. The one that I use is called db Poweramp. It's not free, but it will allow you to convert any format to any other format. Just bear in mind that unless you are converting to a lossless format (e.g. a flac file or wave file) you will lose some fidelity everytime you convert to a lossy format like mp3, wma, etc.
