I have 5 magnepan speakers rated at 4 ohm they sound great at loud levels. The receiver gets warm but seems to handle them well.

They use 8 ohms for more for power classification. The question comes down to this in real life how big is the room and how loud. I would usually recommend a at 100 watt due to the high current the main would you want to look for in specification is a HIGH Current amplifier I am running ablut 4 ohms loads but I also have highly effecient speakers though which means I do not have to turn it up to make it sound good and tax the amplifier which if you have average speakers 86db spl to 88db it could be a problem for it will tax the system. Most of the top brands will have current flow transistors for this purpose. Small Room to medium room not loud you should be fine. 96 db speakers are 10 more effecient the 86 db speakers so it takes 1/10 the voltage thus the current thus reduced.
