I think at first it was but then after about a week it started buzzing quite audibly. Our last two refrigerators (and all of or kids units) hummed a bit but this is a distinct annoying buzz. It buzzes almost all the time taking only occasional short breaks. I have the Best Buy tech plan and had a tech come and look at it. He said "LG will call that normal operating noise". Either the unit is not a good design or is defective and LG won't back it up, but I won't even consider anothger LG refrigerator.
