This movie touches my heart and makes me cry every time I watch it. My dad was a big baseball fan and I was named after Roger Maris. So I am very biased regarding this movie. Great performances by Barry Pepper and Thomas Jane who eerily look and moved like Maris and Mantle. This was an excellent movie.

I love baseball movies and this one didn't disappoint. It gave the history of the 61* record and now I know why the guy that beat Babe Ruths record had to have an * after the 61 number.

This is one of the greatest baseball/sports movies of all time. It gives an accurate account of the 1961 single season home run record chase between Yankee Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. You don't have to be Yankees fan to enjoy this flick. I'm a Red Sox fan and love this movie.

Great story for anyone who likes sports. Billy Crystal did a terrific job of showing the mounting pressures on Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle as they challenged The Babe's "unbeatable" record. Unfortunately he felt it necessary to include a tremendous amount of foul language. A certain amount of profanity would be expected given the pressure of the events; however, the locker room verbiage adds nothing to the drama and makes the movie totally inappropriate for younger fans.

Barry Pepper plays Roger Maris in 61 the season in which he takes over the Baseball legend Babe Ruth to become the all-time season single record for homeruns. It starts with the famous homerun chase of 1998 between Sosa and Mcguire. It shows what could be the breaking homerun of Maris's record then flashes back to 1961 and the rest of the movie shows what Maris went through that season. The personal struggles and the hate he went through because people did not want him to break the legends homerun record. They eventually put an asterik on it because that season they played more games than when Ruth set the record. It flashes back to the 1998 season to end the movie. It is a great story and superb acting. I am glad to see this film being released on blu-ray.

This HBO original movie is really quite good. Directed by Billy Crystal, both Thomas Jane and Barry Pepper give excellent performances. Widescreen, recommended.

Billy Crystal does an amazing job directing this biographical drama reliving the moments of the 1961 home run chase. Great acting by all.
