Although this was a brand new, in the box, sealed tablet I was never able to get it to power up properly. Instructions were vague, and I ended up spending a long time online researching a solution. Nothing worked. Ended up returning the tablet, and purchasing an affordable laptop on sale.

This was a terrible purchase. Every time I tried to use this it would not even power on. I was forced to reset the device multiple times and it was the worst purchase I have ever made. Please do not waste your money on this.

Considering that I've had real good luck with my 32" Insignia TV, I thought I'd take a chance on this tablet. Unfortunately, it just didn't work out. On the positive side, I couldn't help but be impressed by the out-of-box experience that Insignia provides. Granted, this is not Apple-level quality, but for $100 they do a very nice job of packaging the hardware and the associated documentation. As for the tablet itself, it had a nice feel to it and seemed solidly built. The screen didn't feel quite as smooth as my Nexus 7, but you get used to that. After turning it on and setting up Windows 10, I started to poke around and try things out. For the most part, the performance was okay for light tablet tasks with minimal lag. The screen seemed bright and crisp for a 1280 x 800 display. And it's true, this tablet does have 2 GB of RAM, not 1 GB as indicated elsewhere. In fact, it even ended up updating itself to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update without any hiccups. Everything seemed like all-systems-go; inserted my 64 GB MicroSD card, and I was rockin'. But then that's when I started experiencing the issues. The first night I had it, it didn't take long before the screen froze on me, and the only solution was to do a hard reset. The next day I got lucky and it didn't happen, but then on the following day, it locked up several times in a row. I decided at that point that I couldn't tolerate it, and I decided to return the tablet to my local Best Buy store. One other minor issue was some occasional static coming out of the 1/8" headphone jack when there was no audio playing; seemed like wiggling my headphone's cable made it worse. But to be fair, once audio was actually coming out of it, the sound quality was fine. The built-in speaker was even louder than I thought it would be and does okay in a pinch, but its somewhat tinny, mono sound is not suitable for a pleasing music listening experience. I suppose it's possible that I just received a bad one; after all, on the whole, Insignia products get favorable reviews by most people. So your mileage may vary. And it's too bad, because this tablet had the specs at a very attractive price -- just be wary that the reality is, maybe it's a bit of a gamble unless you're willing to pay more elsewhere for additional piece of mind.

A feature rich tablet but highly unreliable

I bought this tablet in December of 2015 because I needed a small tablet that I could carry and use during my commute to and from work. This one was perfect for purpose because it had a high resolution screen for reading text on a small screen. It also had Bluetooth and Wifi support along with a memory slot, HDMI port and a headphone jack. With the exception of the poor quality of the built-in speaker this tablet has excellent features for the price but it stopped working after two months. It was still under warranty so I returned it and got a replacement which died in under a year in October. I couldn't exchange it for a third one because they weren't available so I got store credit for the full price. I will not purchase another Insignia tablet but if you do I highly recommend saving the box, all included documentation and most importantly the store receipt in safe place in case you have to return it.

This is essentially a windows PC. Has 2gigs of memory, quad core Atom CPU. Good for light office duties, web, music. This is my second Insignia tablet that I own. First is 8.9" Windows 10, bought it in March of 2016, not a single problem so far. Second-8". I keep them at different locations when I travel in between them.

    Poor design, lack of forethought

The tablet starts off well, but as it ages it suffers from screen issues, and is terribly underpowered even for an Atom tablet. But the biggest issue is the lack of for thought at only have 32GB of storage. Windows 10 will not upgrade without an external USB stick. This is because it requires more space to do upgrades than the internal storage + any programs will allow. 64GB has always been the real minimum, someone in engineering forgot that. Ms tells you 32gb is enough but reality is that it's not.

Had a similar Windows 8 device last year and the on/off switch broke after 1 month. Replaced it this year with this Windows 10 device. Clearly the hardware cannot handle the new operating system. in 24 hours it has crashed 14 times. Constantly hangs when trying to access the SD card. Hangs and freezes.
