Customers are saying

Customers praise the gameplay, fun factor, ease of use, and price of A Hat in Time. Many also enjoyed the characters and the game's homage to classic 3D platformers. However, some customers noted performance issues, particularly on the Switch version, and longer than ideal load times. Despite these drawbacks, the game's positive aspects appear to outweigh the negative for most players.

    An Absolutely Fantastic Game!

I absolutely adore this game! It's just all around great! Gameplay and movement is extremely fluid the characters are unique and funny, and the soundtrack is fantastic. While not quite as long as some of the 3D Mario playformers, each of the "Acts" (levels) in the game is extremely unique. In one act you are fighting the head of the mafia, while the next you are fulfilling a contract by unclogging a sewer to get your soul back from an underworld creature. There's a lot to love here! The Switch version is a bit choppier at times and does indeed take much longer to load than other versions of the game, but it doesn't take away from the experience much. The Seal the Deal DLC comes free with the Switch version as well which adds and additional chapter as well as "Death Wish" mode, which offers a bunch of new challenges to the game. I would highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys fun and charming 3D platformers, and wants something a little more unique than what others offer.

A hat in time is a game I've been following since its alpha, and it's so great to finally be able to play it. It's a love letter to games like mario 64 and banjo kazooie, but also to things like psychonauts. I get more PlayStation 2 vibes than n64, which I feel is a good thing. The game is bright and colorful with fun movement options that make me feel like a pro as a navigate tiny platforms and make prescision jumps. The characters are great and I love how you can customize hat kid and make her even cuter. This game has a few flaws, the most annoying one being the camera. It sometimes zooms in way too close and makes it difficult to see what I'm doing or where I need to go next. There's also no first person option to look around, but there is a camera badge that's free roaming. It's a little cumbersome but it works in a pinch. Overall, I'd say this is a good buy for those that like both the n64 3d platformers as well as ones from the ps2, such as sly cooper and the aforementioned psychonauts. It's a little rough around the edges, but that's part of the charm.

I was in the hospital recently and one of my friends was absolutely freaking out. As a sort of thank you and I’m okay, I bought this for him. I own the physical copy and absolutely adore this game to hell and back! I got all the DLC and got all the collectibles. But as the digital copy goes, you pay, you receive a code less than an hour later and you download it. Couldn’t be easier for a lockdown situation.

A Hat In Time for the Nintendo Switch is a fun platformer in the same vein as Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. You pick different chapters in each act or world. It does suffer some longer load times. So If you have another console or a PC, I'd suggest those if you would rather speed things up. I enjoyed playing in handheld mode and Think this a pretty good budget priced game.

A Hat in Time is a hugely enjoyable take on the classic 3D platformer. The tight, familiar controls and varied, innovative levels result in one of the most fascinating and entertaining games out there. The issues with performance and the camera do little to wipe the smile off my kids faces while playing through this; if you adore the likes of Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie, then you will love this game!

This game is on par with Mario Odyssey in terms of gameplay. The difficulty level is always fair and I never felt that there was a steep increase in difficulty to punish the gamer. If I died it was because of a mistake or miscalculation that I made. I would highly recommend this as I'm sure it will be on the short list for hidden gems on the Nintendo Switch.

You play as a tiny space-traveling girl with a big top hat. You must jump, fight, and stitch new hats to make your way into every nook and cranny of the new world in order to find fuel and resume your journey. f you like the 3D platformer genre then you will love this.

This is a fantastic port of an amazing platformer. while there are some concessions due to the limitations of the switch in portable mode such as the resolution and anti-aliasing not being high, and some slow-down at points; it doesn't affect the enjoyment of the game. the fact that i can take this game, which is designed to be played in short bursts and not marathoned, with me is fantastic. this is why i will buy the switch port of many games.

A cute and fun 3D platformer for almost anyone. Fun characters, locations, and hats in the whole game. The hat mechanic provides unique exploration opportunities in each mission. I experienced no bugs playing it except the one time it crashed when I first started it.

The two major problems with the game are frame rate issues and severe load times. The frame lag isn't terrible but most stages take at least 25 seconds to load. If you ignore that, the game is a bunch of fun if a little easy. A competent 3D platformer that makes movement feel fun.

This game is VERY reminiscent of the open-world 3D Mario games with great movement options and abilities. It truly made me feel like a kid again playing Mario 64 and its successors. May stutter every once in a while on Switch, but that doesn't ruin the experience. Awesome game!

Producer: "Hey lets make a game that brings back the nostalgia of old 3d platformers like Mario 64 and improve upon it" Programming lead: "I hear you loud and clear, I'm on it", proceeds to implement a camera system worse than the first generation 3D platforms. I want to give this 1 star... but it's purely based on rage of the camera system. The game itself is pretty good. I'm not happy that it only included 1 out of the 2 DLC with the physical. That being said, I completed 100% of the main game, and like 99% of the first DLC (I don't remember the actual percentage, but there was one thing left for me to do) and I just stopped. It had some decent platforming, challenges, puzzles, and characters. The main game didn't feel complete to me, and the DLC didn't help that, but that's completely forgivable. What's not is the darn camera system. Let me explain (rant warning). You are getting ready to make a series of pin-point jumps, you angle the camera perfectly to suit your needs so you can gauge depth and distance. You run, you jump, and mid air, without cause, the camera angle swings wildly to where ever the heck it wants. Sometimes its 90 degrees to the left or right, sometimes it point blank as you see into your characters head and nothing else... whatever the case, the geometry of the analog/thumb stick direction in the game changes as a result, and your pin-point jump is now completely botched. You fall and need to start all over again. IT. IS. RELENTLESS. in this game. Constantly fighting the camera... and it doesn't make a lick of sense. The developers said it's hard to deal with this, that sometimes the camera will move to keep line of sight (unobstructed view) of your character (which is often not the case). I would rather the auto camera just be shut off altogether. If the camera is going to be obstructed, so be it, I still have a chance to make my jump. At least give me the option to shut off the auto camera movement and I would probably bump it up to 5 stars. Point being, part of getting good at this game *should not* include getting used to and compensating the quirky camera. New Super Lucky's Tale is far far better if you're looking for solid platformer. Also a bit short, but it's a good game with solid mechanics and a camera system that works as it should.

The design of the game and mechanics just work super fluidly, I'm not a speed runner but each jump, to wall jump, slide, to dash cancel, to double jump honestly feels so satisfying. I would dock points for the performance of the port but compared to other console ports I'm satisfied with what we got.

It's not quite as polished as what Nintendo puts out but it's still incredibly fun and well made. Definitely worth getting if you like 3D platformers. I can't speak for the PC or PS4 versions but I've also played this on Xbox One and the Switch version for some reason seems to play better. Also, the DLC isn't available on Xbox or PS4 but is on Switch and PC. (This package has one of the two DLC packs included.)
