Good buy for an 'average' level laptop

this has a 'good ole dependable' Intel Pentium processor. Not likely to run hot or give problems with surfing and word processing. View screen is good; a little too directional, but all these type screens are this way. I don't 'like' the key touch but they are all that way now days. That is what happens when you go thin. I'll get used to it. The Bluetooth feature was not available when I got it and even the Geek Squad couldn't figure out how to make it work. A simple google search works wonders... you just have to turn it on via the keyboard. The "users manual" is a bad joke. If this is your first computer, better get a 'laptops for dummies' book, or you'll struggle. If it's not your first, then you will be comfortable as there aren't any really new things included compared to the current crop of high tech units out there circa 2014. This would seem to be state of the art for about 2012-13. I like Wdos 7 over 8 or 8.1 and one of my main programs works best on 7 so it was a natural choice. If you buy 7 stay with 7; don't upgrade. You will need more software like Office or the equivalent if you intend to do any work on it, as it comes with only the OS and Adobe reader. You will need to have some DVD writable disks at hand when you turn it on for the first time, as you need to make recovery disks immediately. Don't neglect this important step- burn the discs and keep them safe. The unit is plenty fast for my needs. It plays DVD movies well and when you add a Bluetooth headset, the sound is excellent. It has speakers but let's not go there. The touch pad is touchy and many have complained about it. Again, check google to find out how to adjust the sensitivity, #its not in the owners guide# or do like me and add an inexpensive mouse that goes in the carrying case and ties up one of the USB ports; no biggie. The memory is expandable to 8Gig if you feel the need. It's a good buy all around, I think. While its not as tough as my old aluminum cased Dell, #which finally died# it's not 10 lbs. either. If you want a 5 lb. laptop you'll just have to take it in a plastic case, which is more vulnerable to being banged around #buy a padded, zippered case instead of an insurance plan, and don't bang it around#. At this price point, I think you could do a lot worse. I'm a happy owner, overall.

Does what a basic laptop should

I was in the market for purchasing a new laptop for working on the road with my business. Knew I just needed a laptop that would be easy to work primarily with Word, Excel, and getting online to process our orders that came through Amazon and elsewhere online. Basically, it's many processes that are not very memory or graphics-intensive (like photoshop or gaming). After looking at reviews, I finally settled on this laptop.
I've been using this laptop for about 4-5 months now and can say that I am very satisfied with this purchase. It seemed to take a little longer than expected to set up and start running well initially, but since the first startup it's been much faster and are no longer an issue. It does everything I need it to do. I love the way the keyboard feels, and having a larger laptop like this with a separate number pad is a huge plus.
Positives:
1) Great value for the price.
2) Keyboard feels great (personal preference at least).
3) Runs efficiently after the first setup is finished.
4) Very good starter/basic laptop for easy functions, like surfing the internet or word processing.
5) Good-sized screen for a laptop.
Negatives:
1) The touchpad L/R buttons are incorporated into the actual touchpad itself rather than them being completely separate buttons. Because of this, you have to push down on the touchpad in the bottom left or bottom right area to use the buttons. Those areas of the pad are still sensitive to touch, so sometimes I'll go to click the button and inadvertently move the cursor. Can be solved by tapping the touchpad instead (but the Right button is still a problem) or with using a mouse. I use a mouse most of the time, so it's not a big enough of a problem to go down to 4 stars for me.
2) First setup took longer than expected, but not much of a negative since it's been running fine ever since.
Overall I am very satisfied with this purchase. Great for what I needed from a cheap laptop to perform basic functions and run basic programs. As long as you don't expect to run Photoshop or games like Crysis, you should be good to go!

I was in the market for a new laptop. Saw this one on sale, read up in it. Everything is saw said it would be good for what I needed. I bought it and it was delivered a few days later. The thing is a hunk of junk. It took forever to set up and hardly works when I try to turn it on. Half the time it will turn on and then freeze. I'm so frustrated with the thing. Don't wast your money on this computer.
