Great Modern Chromebook & Upgrade

I got last year's model for my daughter and was rather impressed with it. I know for myself that I would want the spec bump that the 2024 model offers. Being a Pixel 9 user in a home that has a lot of google integration the Gemini features were wanted and this model certainly offers that.
I was looking to upgrade from 2018's Pixelbook Go which has served me quite well for 7 years now but was showing it's age. Chromebooks have come a long way in terms of features in recent years and this line seemed to be getting a lot of positive reviews and word of mouth.
I wanted something that I could work on and multi taks with. The DDR5 RAM is much faster than DD4 and the Ultra 5 115U has great speed.
The flip features are really nice even if I dont anticipate needing them very often.
Overall, if you want a speedy chromebook with modern specs, this is a great option.
The only thing I would change, personally, would be to make 16GB of RAM the base offering in 2024. This is not Acer's fault, per se, as the standard is 8GB. But as we move into the future 16GB will be more and more useful, especially in keeping the machine "fast" for 5 years or more.
One other small item might be moving the USB-C ports to only the left side. For me personally, this does not affect me, but having an option on the right side, like in years past, would be great.

I was looking forward to this, as I enjoyed an Acer chromebook I had some 15 years ago. I wanted to finally upgrade by replacing the great pixelbook I've used since it came out. I thought the Acer Chromebok Plus Spin 714 was the one.
I was wrong.
First of all, it seemed quite expensive (even with a sale price) for what you get.
But most of all it felt twice as thick and three times as heavy as my pixelbook. I couldn't imagine using this every day for hours on end.
Also, it honestly felt just as snappy as the now quite old pixelbook, with a performance that wasn't anywhere near what I had expected.
As others have mentioned, the screen is unusually shiny, reflective, and gave off a blinding glare day and night (unless I turned out all of the lights). Unlike my experience with other chromebooks and laptops, this made the Acer unusable.
The tinny speakers, while subpar, didn't bother me much if I could use my headphones.
I quickly returned this to Best Buy (grateful for their return policies).
Maybe new generations of Acer chromebooks will improve the user experience. But I'll be reticent, and wait to hear from others before taking the plunge with them again.

Charges quickly, touch pad causes radio interference with one local station when my finger or body part is within a few inches of it. Good battery life. Has some other issues, games stop or I get booted out of them. Does not work like my old laptop of another maker which worked great, smooth.

Thing gets used daily sence october. Wide has had zero complaints or problems. She uses it at work for scheduleing and payroll. Was hesitant if it would be smooth enough being a chromebook but it works flawless, almost smoother than my nitro 5 at times. Screen is crystal clear, and the glass is awesome compared to other non glass screens hands down!

Gorgeous laptop!! I keep hoping Google Chrome OS catches up to Windows but it's still just so far behind. This is a really beautiful laptop so if you are into Chrome OS I would without a doubt by it.
There were too many limitations for me to use it for work. Like I say, I do hope Chrome OS eventually catches up it surpasses Windows. I think that will be a good thing.

I've had a bunch of Chromebooks. This is a good one. For me touchscreen and backlit keyboard are essential. The Ultra 5 chip with 8 GB RAM is performing exceedingly well.
I'll upgrade to 16GB RAM and 120 Ghz refresh rate only if it becomes available in a lighter 13-14" chromebook at roughly the same price.

A great upgrade from my 4 year old Lenovo Chromebook. I've had my new Acer Spin 714 for over a month now and it's been nothing short of perfect. The most impressive surprise is how quick it recharges and holds a charge.

This Chromebook is perfect for power CPU and reliable SSD.
We had a similar device earlier with emmc storage and the storage failed after about 1 year. This SSD based device is more reliable

Love this lab top, bought it because it’s a Chromebook and all the good things I hear about not needing antivirus protection. That’s a plus not having that notification pop up. Retired my old iPad with this purchase being it’s a 2in1.
Only issue is seems to crash and reboot randomly after opening. I’m pretty sure this will get resolved after a couple updates.

I was an early adopter when Chromebook s first came out and I even sprung for the first desktop AIO (all in one) Chromebook by LG. Unfortunately I think they are getting worse, not better.
There a few qualms I have with CBs specifically nowadays:
- the dedicated Files app for ChromeOS does not integrate with Google photos so you can't easily upload photos when doing things like posting stuff for sale online, etc.
- drag and drop for files/photos also does not seem to work well or at least not intuitively
- a big selling point appears to be that the new CBs can use the Google play store to download apps however I think dedicated android and chromeOS apps would have been better....just my opinion but I consider this to be a con vs a pro
now for this model specifically:
- looks nice, like the rose gold hinges
- display doesn't seem that great
- apparently this one DID NOT come with a stylus which is pretty lame :/
- tablet mode doesn't seem to work well
- mouspad/trackpad is wearing out already after less than 6 months of low moderate use
- CB itself seems slow; I thought the processor and Ram would be sufficient but apparently not, which is very annoying.
overall would either recommend a more powerful CB *or* would say just bypass the CBs altogether and go with windows, mac, or linux
also battery life is only okay and the phone sync option doesn't work well either.
