I got this laptop for 799 on sale in November 2023, and have been using it for a year now every day. Mine came with the i5 13500HX, 16gb of RAM, and 4050GPU. This thing has been nothing short of amazing...I upgraded to 32GB of low latency G Skill ram and no issues detecting/setting the proper timings.
I can play almost all my games on 34 inch widescreen in HD or QHD no problem. Intel Extreme tuning utility reports thermal throttling barely 1% of the time after gaming for hours straight. The GPU will clock to 2300MHZ under load and performance cores will stay pegged at 4.5GHz and this processor isn't affected by improper Intel XMP/BIOS settings at all.
And the finish on it is outstanding. This thing has every right to be covered in light scratches after a year of solid daily use, but doesn't have a single one . I don't know what they used for plastic or coating but Acer please don't ever change that. If you're OCD about scratches then look no further. And I haven't been exactly kind to it.
I am a power user and very critical of any item I spend this kind of money on, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Acer Predator.
If you see this open box or on sale its definitely one to don't even think about it. At full price you get your moneys worth. The i5 13th or 14th gen (or higher) are insanely fast general purpose CPUs.
Add a 240 watt or higher Thunderbolt docking station and you'll have so many I/O options all connected with one USB C cable including power.

I used to game a lot. A LOT! now I work most of my time. I am using this Acer Helios for work more than gaming! I do Electronic designs and so often, mechanical designs (Altium, Cads) In my work, I do a lot of 3D rendering and the refresh rate should be high enough to not make the engineer (me) pull his/her hair... All the software I use are very resource hungry software. They are demanding powerful processing for computing and rendering images. At work, I have a huge gaming desktop for the same powerful specifications:
1- This Acer has an amazing cooling system that it would keep the CPU/GPU at good temperature no matter what you through on it. It would guarantee a longer life
2- It has all the NICE connectivity ports that most of our now-days computer lack. Everything what would guarantee connecting and docking with fully functional integration. 4K display is just one of them
3- Processing speed (even with i5) is amazing. I also noticed that the i5 is mostly running at easy pace without altering the performance.
4- I was expecting it to be noisier (Gaming Laptop) but I think it is doing just fine. Sometimes my other "High Class" laptop screams louder than Helios.
5- Windows is MS product. Nothing to mention here. It is doing what windows is supposed to do...
6- Main/original screen is not bad at all. While it is very good for gaming (I tried that) it would be better for work if it was a bit wider.
7- The Helios body is sturdy and would take shocks... A bit on the heavy side but I am not planning to move it around a lot.. The same for the:
8- Battery life. As I'll keep it plugged most of the time. I had to take it on a flight once and it held very well for 1.5H showing a design in 3D for managers. They kind of liked the idea to have a "Gaming Laptop" for business as it reflect young blood in the company ethic...
Now, Bloatware: Honestly, I think this one has not too many! I liked most of the ACER pre-installed tools. I find them very helpful. I usually wipe and clean install windows on every Windows machine I buy. I am still holding on this one at the Out of the Box OS. It is not broken, why to fix it?
The keyboard is ok. It took me a while to get used to it. A bit on the quite side. The travel feels ok but the positions are a bit off from my usual other computers/laptops.
Touch pad is just great. Just doing great.
External Power brick is heavy, which is expected! the Low Voltage part of it is short! They make the AC side longer. The brick will be on the table then. No big deal so far.
Wifi range is amazing. Almost like the silver fruit one! The same for Bluetooth. Range is very good and I tried to connect several BT devices without any issues.
Sometimes I think I should have got the i7... Maybe! But so far nothing to complain about when talking performance...
I'd recommend it if you need a powerful computer that you are not planning to carry around or run off grid for long time. I'd recommend it if you are working in any designing that usually require high speed computing and a good GPU refresh rate. You will appreciate what this Helios is offering.

Great laptop load fans That’s about it. It has good performance. The storage could be better, but it runs really fast. I wouldn’t try to run any chunky games like arc on this, but it’s great for casual games like Csgo and Casual multiplayer games The only issue I feel like I have with the computer or the fans can be a little loud when they’re at max And when the computer is starting up, sometimes loud ringing can be heard Nothing to be concerning I’m assuming it’s ssd Overall, a Good laptop with a few tweaks could be a great laptop

This computer is great! I ended up putting 32gb of ram in it to allow everything that I plan on doing. The RTX 4050 is an okay graphics card. Dlss 3.5 is amazing assuming games enable it. Without dlss it does between 30 and 60 fps on the highest graphical settings. It does have a heat problem so make sure you get a cooling pad. Display isn't anything special. Color contrast is meh and refresh rate isn't really used. It's not light but also not super heavy. The built in monitor software is great. It also has a number pad built in! Battery life seems mediocre at best. Overall its a solid computer for the $1200. I got mine on sale for $800. It's definitely worth $800.

I got this laptop for $713 after tax. It was an open box deal ON TOP OF being on sale. Even though this one was open box, it has been perfectly fine (when buying open box I'd say just look for cosmetic damage really, best buy has already made sure it works and everything beforehand). Anyway, this is insane value for this price. In Ghost of Tsushima 1080p medium settings with dlss and quality upscaling i get 140fps with little to no stutters or ghosting. In Helldivers 2 I get close to 100 fps 1080p native render quality at mostly low with some high texture/lighting settings. I also overclocked the gpu with msi afterburner and messed with the bios and upped the boost clock of the cpu. Temps for both were great even after that. The cpu and gpu never downclocked due to heat. The laptop sounds like a jet engine in turbo mode...but just wear headphones (because this IS a gaming laptop) and it is not noticable. The keyboard is backlit and perfectly usable and I have no issues with it. All in all, for $713 I cannot complain, but at $1200... I wouldn't bother. If you can get it on a sale, it tears through 1080p gaming. If not, wait for a sale, and try to find an open box one.

This computer makes gaming enjoyable the graphics are great no lag or frame skip at all unless the battery is low then just plug in and you can keep gaming and the battery is descent plays for about 3 hours fully charged. If you plan on doing school work or business on your laptop then this laptop is perfect but now the only downside is the storage but it has an extra m.2 ssd slot and it’s super easy to install on your own takes maybe 10 minutes all together. I’ve personally play steam and epic games and Xbox games on here which includes games like Skyrim and gta 5 and all the mafia games and middle earth and marvel spider-man remastered and horizon dawn complete edition and days gone and apex and counter strike 2 and baldur’s gate 3 and assassin’s creed black flag and Fortnite and kingdom come deliverance and pubg battlegrounds and smite and I never get lag or lose frame rates so I would definitely recommend this laptop at the price it costs is well worth it for the quality of life this laptop brings will last.

This is my first gaming laptop from Acer, though I've had quite a few gaming laptops and PCs from other manufacturers in the past. Despite the plastic housing, this laptop is quite heavy weighing nearly 6 lbs on its own while the 230W charging brick adds 1 lb. It measures 14" wide, 11" from front to back, and is 1-1/4" at its thickest with a slight downward taper towards the front. The laptop comes with a fitted zippered neoprene travel sleeve to protect it from scratches. The aesthetics are fairly plain with a black base and steel-gray upper lid and small reflective chrome Predator logo at the front. It does, however, come with a sticker sheet for you to jazz it up a bit.
On its left are the RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet port, USB 3.2 Gen 1, microSD card reader, and combo mic/headphone port. On the right side you’ll find two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports with the left one supporting power-off charging of connected devices, LED battery and power indicators, and a Kensington lock slot. At the back are the DC-in port, HDMI 2.1 output, and two Thunderbolt 4 Type-C ports which support DP-alt mode with 4K/8K output, 40 Gbps bandwidth, and 100W quick charging.
This build ships with a 13th Gen Intel i5-13500HX CPU and 16GB of 4800 MHz DDR5 SDRAM pre-installed (8GB x 2), but you can upgrade the memory up to 32 GB max total. The hard drive is a bit small at 512 GB, but there is an open m.2 NVMe slot available for you to add as a secondary drive (compatible with dual-sided drives); you can also simply pop in a microSD card for extra storage, as opening the bottom casing is a little bit fiddly.
In addition to the discrete graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050), the CPU has integrated graphics (UHD Graphics 16EU) for reduced performance in exchange for less power consumption/longer battery life. Which graphics the internal display uses depends on your settings and usage requirements in auto mode. While you can configure it to specifically use one or the other in the NVIDIA control panel, when connecting a second monitor via the HDMI port, the external display will always use the discrete GPU.
The laptop screen is a 16" diagonal IPS display with narrow bezels, 165 Hz refresh rate, 3 ms response time, and max resolution of 1920x1200 with a 16:10 aspect ratio (WUXGA). It produces fairly dark blacks with minimal light haloing of bright objects on dark backgrounds. Its max brightness is 400 nits which is decent for a laptop, and it is G-sync compatible. There is an integrated 2MP 720p webcam and dual-mic array just above the screen for live streaming and video conferencing on-the-go.
The keyboard features RGB backlighting customizable in the PredatorSense app with static or animated color patterns, though the keys stand out somewhat already with contrasting white edges. The WASD, PredatorSense key, and D-pad have translucent sides allowing the LED colors to shine through. The keys are not individually addressable but there are 4 "zones" for which you can set individual colors. By default the lighting effects shuts off after 30 seconds of inactivity, though you can toggle this setting off or simply press any key to light up the keyboard again. The mousepad is large with a 5" x 3" area and is responsive, supporting multi-touch gestures, taps, swipes, and clicks.
On battery saver mode you can squeeze about 3.5 hours of use out a fully charged battery, provided you aren’t gaming or doing graphics intensive creative work, and in high performance mode you'll get about 1.5 hours of usage with the average mixed/casual use lasting around 2 hours. There is a mode cycle button just above the keyboard on the left-hand side that allows you to quickly switch between power profiles like Silent, Balanced, Performance, and Turbo (white, blue, purple, magenta).
Just be aware this laptop puts out a lot of heat from the back corners at the sides and rear, so you'll either want to use it on a desk or preferably on a cooling mat. CPU idle temps ran around 58-60°C while the GPU hovered around 55-58°C with the fans running in Auto mode (~2200 RPM) and the fans are generally quiet.
The RTX 4050 was able to deliver super smooth gameplay at maxed out Ultra settings on its internal display with games like CS:GO and PoE. I didn’t notice any issues with tearing, lag, or stuttering and saw consistent framerates at 80 fps and above, often over 120 fps depending on the game and settings. However, GPU temps did occasionally rise to over 80°C, so I recommend just setting the fan to max (~6300 RPM) which lowered the temps about 15°C. At max speed the fan noise is pretty loud at around 55 dB, but a good pair of headphones was sufficient to block it out. Just note that if using external displays with QHD or higher resolutions, the framerate may drop accordingly.
For non-gaming purposes like content creation it works well, though note that the integrated panel only has 8-bit color depth in the SDR color space, so don’t expect super accurate colors unless you use an external display. However, text is clear and easy to read on it, and the speed is fast enough to render/export large video files and 3D models in a reasonable amount of time. The screen is also suitable for media consumption like streaming video and web browsing. The built-in speakers aren’t that bad either and can get pretty loud, though will start to distort and get boxy at higher volumes; you'll have a better listening experience using headphones or external speakers as the laptop supports Dolby DTS:X for accurate sound stage placement.
Overall, this gaming laptop delivers a satisfying gaming experience with clean visuals on its internal display and even better performance on external displays with higher resolutions. The machine boots quickly, loads games fast, and handles everyday computing tasks with ease, even when running multiple applications simultaneously. While it doesn’t ship with a ton of hard drive space or RAM, both these components can be upgraded by a knowledgeable end user. It's a bit on the heavy side, only has so-so battery life, and runs a bit hot too, so keep this in mind if you're looking for a rig you can take and use on-the-go.

This Predator is Beast!

I've really grown to appreciate how far Acer has come regarding build quality and performance of their gaming laptops. While not the "high end" of their Predator line, this Helios Neo 16 definitely exceeded my expectations.
I can attest that this laptop is a thing of beauty. It's sleek and modern-looking, with what I would call an 'attention to detail' in its overall design. This Predator is lovely, from every angle.
Upon opening the laptop, my first thought was how smooth the back hinge worked. The screen itself is surrounded by a slim bezel, which kinda makes the 16" display seem bigger than it is. The visuals themselves are bright and crisp, really stunning. Being a modern gaming laptop, of course the keyboard is backlit with RGB lighting, which can be customized to your personal specifications in the PredatorSense software. There's even a dedicated PredatorSense key as a handy shortcut.
This laptop has all the usual plug-in ports for your electronics and gaming accessory needs. Even the power plug is made well, really heavy duty. And by no means a downside, albeit unusual, is that the power plug-in is located along the back near the rear ports, instead of being on either of the two sides as I'm used to seeing on other laptops I've owned. If anything, this keeps the power cord more out of the way.
As for the onboard speakers, they sound pretty decent; about average. Though most gamers would likely be using a headset or have peripheral speakers or a soundbar connected to the laptop for better audio. And the camera is what you'd expect. Nothing exceptional there.
The bottom grill and ventillation cooling fan ports do their job helping to mitigate the heat put out by this gaming laptop. Acer has, in my view, really excelled in this all-important aspect.
And while the laptop only has a 512gb SSD, there is an empty slot if you're wanting/needing to upgrade your storage at some point.
Now, onto actual performance. I ran my usual FFXIV Benchmark test, and under the Performance mode setting, this laptop scored extremely high. For game play, both WoW and Diablo IV (with in-game settings at med-high, as per my preferences), I experienced no noticable lag, stuttering, or rendering issues; with FPS within acceptable and expected limits. So, even though this Predator Helios Neo 16 has a Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 graphics card, it performs above and beyond my needs for the types of games I play.
My overall impression? This Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 is not what I would call a low-end model gaming laptop. However, there are more expensive models in Acer's Predator line. But for this laptop's price point ... it's a beast, and definitely worth considering.

I mean theres nothing much too say. I got it for 799.99 on sale i mean yes its a 512gb sss which is alright but for me i need nvme. Has one extra slot to add more HD space. nvme or ssd. Overall i really enjoy the laptop. Nothing too complain at all like 165hz? rtx4050? i could run all games on it. The only major issue is just fan sound but can control it through their app. Auto, turbo or custom. Sounds like a jet with turbo but auto works perfectly fine. Battery life? it last’s long. for gaming? i dont think it’ll be the best for high end games. Only would reccommend it playing it plugged in for higher end games! Over all if its on sale? BUY ITTT!!!

For the price, this laptop works better than any other I have had in the past few years. I am a drafter and use Revit all day long. It was a game changer when I got my Acer - Predator Helios. It doesn't lag or glitch. Other computers slow down when using Revit, especially; you can hear the fan on most of the time. Acer - Predator Helios doesn't have that problem or overheats. It takes less than 30 seconds to generate a 3d rendering, while others take 2 minutes or more. The only thing I see negatively is the battery life. It dies a bit further if not plugged in. I recommend this computer if you are drafting or using software like Autocad or Photoshop. This computer will work perfectly for residential projects, games, etc.

I recently got my hands on the Acer Predator Helios Neo, and I must say, this gaming laptop has left a positive impression on me. One of the standout features is the 16" WUXGA screen with an impressive 165Hz refresh rate. Gaming on this laptop is an absolute delight, with smooth visuals and quick response times. The screen is not only fast but also vibrant, with excellent viewing angles that make every gaming session an immersive experience.
Under the hood, this laptop packs an i5 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB hard drive. The performance is commendable, handling most games with ease. What's particularly noteworthy is the RAM upgradeability. I highly recommend taking advantage of this feature and beefing up the RAM. When you're dealing with today's triple-A titles, you'll find that the 16GB can get stretched thin, and more memory will keep things running smoothly.
Speaking of games, it's worth noting that this laptop has a capable 4050 GPU. It handles most games admirably when played directly on the laptop's built-in screen. However, if you plan to connect it to an external monitor for gaming, you might run into some limitations. The GPU, while great for the laptop's screen, might struggle a bit with the demands of larger, high-resolution external displays. So, if your gaming setup involves multiple screens, this is something to keep in mind.
In terms of storage, the 512GB hard drive is decent, but it fills up quickly, especially with modern games that demand significant storage space. An upgrade or an additional external drive would be a wise investment to ensure you have ample space for your game library.
In conclusion, the Acer Predator Helios Neo is a solid gaming laptop that excels in many areas. The 165Hz screen is a standout feature, delivering a visually stunning gaming experience. The ability to easily upgrade the RAM is a plus, and I highly recommend doing so for smoother gameplay. Just be aware that if you plan to game on an external monitor, the GPU might not be up to the task. However, as long as you intend to game on the laptop's built-in screen, you'll find it more than capable of delivering an enjoyable gaming experience.

The Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 is a well-balanced gaming laptop with solid performance and a competitive price. It features an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti GPU, up to 64GB RAM, and 2TB storage. The 16-inch display offers a 240Hz OLED panel for smooth and vibrant visuals.
Key highlights:
Design: Sleek with an RGB logo and four-zone keyboard lighting.
Performance: Handles modern games well, though not top-tier.
Connectivity: Includes Thunderbolt 4, USB-C, HDMI 2.1, Ethernet, and a microSD slot.
Battery: 90Wh, but battery life may be a concern under heavy gaming loads.
Verdict: A strong choice for gamers looking for performance and value, though battery life could be better.

Nice gaming laptop, the best part of it is the display, excellent colors for this price point only OLED and the expensive $2000 laptops can beat. Second the sound is very good too. The CPU is good, the RTX 4050 perform well but with 6gb ram is not future proof. The negative side is that it is very heavy, not friendly for travel and carry also heats up a lot so I can only recommend it for home use with cooling pad, but if you have the space might as well get a desktop with large monitor. Can't say anything about battery life as I only used it plugged in but I don't think it will last long while gaming. Anyway the build quality is good. So if it is on sale is a good value.

Waited for a few months to pull the trigger on a gaming laptop.
For the price, this thing is absolutely awesome! IMO, better than comparable laptops that run $1100-$1500. The 4050 is the lowest tier of RTX 40 Series but better to have than a 3060 from what i've experienced. 16GB ram is perfect and always upgradable too.
Overall, fast, great keyboard with RGB, Good screen, fun to game with and use for music production.

4.5/5 solid solid purchase. Only a bit of advise. A word of warning- I AM NOT A COMPUTER EXPERT. Just a user. My experience with this laptop is only with read dead redemption 2 on ultra settings. Screen resolution- just above FHD. Beautiful. Battery life- haven’t tested. I always play laptop with charger plugged in. Processor- solid. No significant physical noticeable difference from Intel core i7. 8.5/10 Graphics card- OUTSTANDINGLY SUPERB. Mwah. Beautiful graphics 10/10. Cooling- when playing technically INTENSE games. Computer definitely gets warm but I’d say not dangerously so. Would recommend basic cooling pad underneath. 7.75/10. Physical size- bulky. Better for cooling and games. Woudlnt recommend for school if moving around frequently. Ample supply of various ports and plug ins. Storage space- not ideal 512 GB- 6.5/10. Ram- 16GB. Does the trick for just about every game under the sun. However, if I play rdr2 for about 3-5 hours, I start to run out of video memory. My personally, very annoying but rdr2 is demanding. 8/10. Price~ most places sell for 12-1700. Therefore, value at Best Buy discounted price- 999.99. 10/10

Great computer for gaming. Only cons so far is the noise level of the unit when gaming for over an hour despite the device having good circulation around it. The fans can get quiet loud but at least have not had issues with the device overheating.
Only other negative ran into is once battery goes below 40% there is significant lag in any game tried so far. The level of graphic usage does not seem to change the large increase in lag from going down and can lead to some player deaths :(
