    DJ from a different angle

DJ hero, the second game to emerge that allows users to experience what it may feel like to be some sort of DJ. The only other game to do this was Beatmania: how many people know or remember this game? Very few, because the game attempted to attract a very similar gaming audience to the stylings of music, and DJing but no one bought into it when it released years and years ago. That is where DJ hero steps up to the plate, its list of music is over 90 tracks mixed with artists from varying times and genres that one may have never equated to mixing them together. The game follows the same Guitar hero gaming style of hitting notes at the bottom of a traveling track. The experience of the game and its music is superb; the controller is responsive and the game offers a lot of replay for the money with its beginning to expert levels of play for each song. Users can unlock new characters, new outfits, turntables, and new places to play at. There was a lot of doubt behind this game in terms of it just being another attempt by Activision to pull more money from the gaming community, but DJ hero is a solid title in a field that has been dominated by Pop artist singing and the rock jam sessions of Rock Band and Guitar Hero. The game will appeal to a different audience, but who said that was a bad thing? My only complaint about this game is the difficulty of the game as you get into the harder songs, it gets insanely difficult. Thankfully DJ Hero does not fail you out of the song if you do poorly, but you do have to either trudge through the song and attempt to play it; or skip the mix and move on to the next one. With that complaint aside, the game is still solid; and definitely holds a lot of appeal. All you have to do is give it a try.

A good start, but room for improvement

When I first heard of DJ Hero I was skeptical, but as time went on I grew to like the concept more and more. Once Daft Punk came on board that was the last thing I needed to convince me to buy the game. I've never been really big on the Hero series or Rock Band, having only owned Guitar Hero 3 to compare DJ Hero to. As far as game play goes it the graphics are nice and the music selection is decent (a lot of the same tracks remixed different ways). The lack of a Story Mode/Career mode makes the game harder to get into, but this could easily be added in DJ Hero 2, as well as features we have come to know and love like create a character, etc. My only real complaint is the controller. After a week of having it some issues began to arise. Some times during gameplay when I push one button on the platter, it will think I pushed all the buttons at once, ruining the multiplier and making getting high scores difficult. Something similar happens when I rewind, also. Luckily I was able to exchange it for a new one. All in all, I really enjoy DJ Hero. I'm looking forward to the improvements that will come with the inevitable sequel, but until now its a good game. I would just recommend getting a protection plan, so if/when the controller breaks you can get a new one.

GO DJ!! Spin Those Ones and Twos!! Wheels of Steel

Let me first start off by saying that I absolutely hate guitar hero. I'm not a fan of rock music and never felt like the game was for me, which it ultimately wasn't. I've never played the guitar, and It felt awkward to play. DJ Hero is nothing like that. I knew going in that i'd love the music and boy was I right! The music in this game is unbelieveable. If you're a hip hop head, you must buy this game. Half of the fun was unlocking the next song and wondering what was going to come next. Funk, R&B classics, Techno, such a wide variety of mashups. There's something that everyone will know and enjoy, unlike Guitar Hero, which was strictly Rock. Even my mom was nodding her head and wanting to spin the turntable. It has a steep learning curve, but give it a few hours and you'll be ready to move up in difficulty. I never felt like the game was too hard or that with practice, I wouldn't be able to master it. Warning, it's also incredibly addicting! The turntable's built well and looks like it'll be able to take years of spinning and scratching. Tons of unlockables, characters like Grandmaster Flash and DJ Jazzy Jeff, great for hip hop fans! I was a little scared that I wouldn't like the turntable, much like I hated the Guitar Hero guitars, but the turntable feels comfortable after a short time. The price point of this game turned me off when it came out during the 2009 holiday season, but with the turntable and game retailing for $40, I knew I had to pick it up. I can't remember the last time I had this much fun with a video game. One of the greatest games I've ever played. You know this game is legit when there's music from people like DJ Shadow and Grandmaster Flash. If you are a fan of Hip Hop, buy this game NOW!! End of story. Go get to scratching!

Its a great game with great music, and its fun! the only drawbacks are its pricing; about $20 dollars over whats it's worth, But overall, its one of the funnest games Ive Played since, well,... i can remeber. It has great music choice, and for you snobs that said it was too hard, or the music was bad; You either have bad taste in music, or your not a fan of fun.

The gaming design and amazing scenery is mind blowing! ive never been this excited about a Console game! I love how you use the turntable with the crossovers and all of that. The characters are awesome (Daft Punk is best) and every song when mixed WILL sound awesome. This is pretty awesome!!

Fun game, not DJing, but fun game!

First thing I will say is that this is NOT like DJing. If you want to learn how to be a DJ or practice DJing, this is not it. But making a game and keeping the freedom of DJing would be hard. That being said, the game is a lot of fun. You push the buttons on the platter according to the colors on the screen. Scratching on the scratch arrows that appear on the screen feels fairly realistic (like scratching on a CDJ, there is nothing that feels like vinyl or a turntable). The music is already programmed into the game. So if you want to scratch somewhere, no dice! You can only play/scratch where they want you to. Some of the mixes are kind of lame, a few are OK though. There was nothing that made me think "Wow, this is the best mix I have ever heard!" But rockband is nothing like playing guitar or drums, it is about playing what someone else created, so in that sense it is just like the other games, I was just hoping for a bit more flexability.

    Amazing game, Hard though

Today I played this game at an ebgames at the mall. I have 2 tecnics turntables so I already know how to use turntables. When I saw the game I played on medium difficulty and it was really fun once you get the hang of it. I did pretty good but my cousin who has never touched a turntable in his life had alot of difficulty playing it. It feels pretty realistic with the crossfader and the effects and the scratching. The only thing i didn't like too much was the fact you had to move the turntable and press the button at the same time. The remixed songs on here are pretty good and you'll definitely have a good time playing this game. I know im going to reserve a copy.

When this first came out I kind of wanted to try it, but for $100 I could think of better games after being burned out on Rock Band and Guitar Hero. When I saw that it dropped to $40... how can you go wrong? It's amazingly pretty fun and addictive. The only problem I have is getting my kids to let me have a turn! Better yet there are tracks that you can 2-player with the Rock Band/Guitar Hero guitar.

The game itself is similar to guitar hero in the way as the color-coated buttons come down the screen. Thats about the only similarity. It is not an easy game to get used to, but it has great mixes which create a new experience of gameplay. The controller is new and similar to one turn table wheel, and is very durable. I enjoy this game a lot and the visual effects are stunning.

DJ Hero is a ton of fun! It takes practice and I beleive is harder to play then guitar hero. Once you get it right it is great. The best part is being able to mix your own songs. My son who is 12 loves it. He will create something and then let us come in and listen to his creation. It is really cool.

    Hey Mr.DJ

The game is very similar to guitar hero except without the guitar you have a turntable instead. You play through a mash-up of songs from pop to rap.The songs are what make this game a really good experience. Each of the games tracks are originals, some are hit and miss, but they still make you move and groove. This game has a large learning curve to it when it comes to controls. The turntable is complicated, and it also has a cross fader feature you'll have to use during each of the songs, you'll realize what I'm talking about "YOU'VE BEEN WARNED".Theirs also a crossover mode where you and a friend can play. You command the turntable and he/she plays the guitar. But you'll have to look for that particular mode in the tracklist menus. The characters on stage in the game just don't feel right, some just look out of place. The animation of the crowd in the game is fine.It makes you feel like your a real DJ in a real club.So if your looking for the next hero you may want to rent it first before you buy.

I played the demo at my local Best Buy and was impressed. Having been a Guitar Hero fan for years, it's great to have a fresh restart. I have never touched a turntable, yet it felt very comfortable while I was playing. i immediately started on the "hard" difficulty and although it was challenging, I made it through the mixes. I can't wait until tomorrow!!!
