FOR 1500 sq ft House ONLY!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll be frank. I've never liked researching nor buying routers. They're kind of like cell phones. You got all the good features and then you have to contend with all the problems each brand comes with. Some brands used to be great until they made major changes (TP-LINK) and some couldn't do features that were advertised (ASUS). My requirements for a router were simple: *It had to have gigabit ethernet ports if I ever upgrade my internet I can use the speed; plus it makes my modem happy and not flash a yellow 'your router could be better' light. *While dual band is a plus and is needed, the ability to set the 2.4GHz band to 'G' rather than N-mixed. Many newer routers don't even offer G-only to which some devices like my Xbox 360 S are not able to connect decently to the Internet. *The router needs to be able to connect android and apple devices equally efficiently. This particular router manages 'one and a half' out of all three criteria. It does not have 'G only' but B+G seemingly works for what I need it to do. This router is very reset happy. Just changing minor settings requires a full reboot which gets a little annoying. Router reboot depends on Modem, but this thing is slower than many other routers out there! As an aside. The build quality seems good and I like how the lights are not bright LEDs poking through clear plastic but instead moderately bright LEDs spread across like bars. The router also includes a stand if you want to put it vertically which I might do in the future. UPDATE: After tinkering with the router a bit more I've decided to go ahead and prepare to return it. The problems with it are just too numerous after finding way too many bugs with its firmware. *The extender that comes with this device is only good for 750 sq ft! Sad! *Will not connect android and apple devices equally&efficiently. *Using WMM disables channels 1-4 on the 2.4GHz band. *When the router crashes it resets all settings. *Settings don't save half the time. Usually changing coverage settings resets advanced settings. Wouldn't be a big deal if changing any setting wouldn't take half a minute. *The reset button is software operated. If the router has crashed removing power is the only way to get it to reset. *For whatever reason the firmware version is not consistent across pages. *While minor, the help text is useless and doesn't cover anything with many advanced pages on the router. DO NOT GO TO THE WEBSITE LISTED IN THE BOX INSTRUCTION PAMPLET, ITS USELESS. Do Not Buy This junk. Return it.
