Easy, foolproof way to get into sous vide cooking

I've previously tried out sous vide cooking using a cooler, probe thermometer, and hot water, but didn't trust that for reliable results. Seeing this on sale I decided to try it out. I've since used it several times for steaks, and a few times for bratwurst.
It can't be simpler. Vacuum bag your food, or use a ziplock, and submerge it to push out the air before sealing. Put the food and this into a container of water, plug in, turn it on, and it still has the last temperature used. Hit the start button, and I come back in 2 hours to a perfectly medium rare steak, or (at higher, appropriate temperatures) fully cooked bratwurst without losing any flavor or over-cooking them. Slap the meat in a hot skilled to get a good sear, or over a grill for just a bit to brown, and get ready for the most tender meat you've ever tried.
That, and the unit is compact for storage, or for travel to share with others!

I love kitchen gadgets, but I've had to cool my enthusiasm for them, since most of them are single-use and bulky, and end up just taking up space in my cabinets. But I really love the Anova cooker, not only because it's about the size of a big stick blender and tucks away in a drawer until needed, but it's allowed me to experiment with sous vide cooking at a price point that is really agreeable. I can now say that preparing things like steak, chicken and pork tenderloin with the Anova, while more time consuming than baking or grilling, results in a delicate, juicy and flavorful meal. The process is easy to learn and hard to mess up, so if you're curious about sous vide cooking and want to give it a try, this is the best place to start.
Less one star because the free app which comes with it seems pretty feature-poor- it will notify you remotely when the water has reached a set temperature, and it does come with a few recipies, but it's so basic that I usually don't even bother with it. But software can always be improved upon.

If you have never tried Sous Vide cooking, the Anova is a great way to start. You only need a pot or container of some kind (I use a small cooler, and sometimes a large pot) and this device. The Anova allows very precise control of the temperature and you can monitor it on your phone through Bluetooth or else just set it manually at the device. In my opinion, you do not need the WiFi unless you lose power much and you want to check on the cook. It just isn't necessary to monitor it frequently. There is lots of info on sous vide cooking on the web. I 2ave 2 of these to cook different foods at different temperatures.

Anova - Technology and Cooking

The is a great technology, fairly simple (I haven't figured some of the timing) and a great way to cook meats and fish. A steak at a perfect rare temperature that only needs a seer is about as easy as it gets. I am just starting to use it and can see its potential.

Holds temp for hours on end, and is easy to use. A few pointers for use: get BPA free bags (all Ziplock brand bags are BPA free). Having a good container that seals the water in is key if you want to leave this alone to cook overnight, as water will evaporate otherwise. Also, I recommend sticking to bigger cuts of meat, as the results coming out of a long sous vide cook will not look appealing at all. Pat the food dry and sear it and that fixes the appearance problem. However, unless you can sear quickly with very high temps, thin cuts of meat become pointless since you'll over cook when trying to sear. Practice makes perfect though.

This is a great way to cook, we use it for steaks mainly but works with almost anything, chicken breasts are another great use. It is super simple and you can't damage expensive cuts by over cooking. Just sear them after cooking with this.

I was interested in Sous Vide when I saw videos on You Tube (Sous Vide Everything) so decided to try it myself. The ANOVA works as expected. Very robust device, easily mountable on any container. The Bluetooth version works well unless you really need to know the status of your food while away. I can’t get much more than 20ft Bluetooth distance but you really don’t need it either. You can control it from the unit. You set temperature and time and you walk away. Recommend to anyone who wants to explore a new way to cook!

First caveat, you'll need a big pot, this takes a lot of water. We order meat from a farm share, which comes shrink wrapped. Dinner prep takes about 4 minutes with this, and it's surprisingly delicious. We finish meat in a pan with seasoning for flavoring and texture, otherwise just set the temp and drop it in the pot

This thing is amazing. Perfect med rare steaks and moist chicken. Meats do not look appetizing out of the water bath but a quick browning in a pan or grill makes them look like you spent all day on them

I've only used it a couple of times, but this device is awesome. Just clamp the Anova to a stock pot filled with hot water, set the temp and time with the phone app, and it heats in no time. Water temperature is maintained within .1 degree. You can cover the pot with plastic wrap with very little temp fluctuation and almost no evaporation.
Throw whatever you're cooking into a ziplock, set the temp and time and forget about it. You should try to remove as much as possible from the bag.

My wife and I were skeptical at first but decided to try it out and see if it will work as advertised. We were pleasantly surprised that it worked just as advertised, just set the temperature you want, put the food in a bag, set the timer and let it cook unattended until done. Our first try was with some filet mignon, threw in the meat some butter herbs and some vegetables and it all turned out great. Try YouTube for some useful tips and tricks on how to prepare different foods.

Makes the perfect Fried Chicken. I marinated the chicken in butter milk and spices, cooked it using the sous vide for 4 hours, then I coated it with corn starch and deep fried it for 5 mins or until golden brown.

Gave this Sous Vide cooker to a family member who loves gadgets and loves perfectly cooked steak and filet mignon. They absolutely love it, and it has taking their cooking passion to a whole new level. Yes, you have to practice patience with this cooker, but the results are restaurant quality.

I researched, I watched videos, I read reviews about more expensive models...and I could not be happier! Everything is perfect...every time. No guess work! Nobody undercooks or overcooks or has to man the grill. No more pressure! Nobody wants to be the person who runs out of propane or overcooks an expensive cut of meat. This is a wonderful gift couples should give each other! And, it's not just meat. You can make desserts perfectly too.

I've been researching sous vide appliances for a while now, Best Buy had this one on sale so I took the plunge. Very easy to use, can be used with any largish pot you already own. Everything I've made so far has come out very good, I even did a chuck roast which I don't normally like very much but it came out tender and excellent.
My reason for not giving it 5 stars is this versions Bluetooth range is very smal" I can't even be upstairs in my bedroom and have it still be connected. Now you don't have to have it synced with buletooth to do your cooking but it makes it easier to monitor for shorter cooks.
