Three days after my initial purchase of my MacBook air I had to take it in and return it for another MacBook air that developed the exact same problem as the first one did. It seems as though Apple cannot get their stuff together when it comes time to install updates on the new MacBook air. Computer needed an extensive time investment on my end which was very frustrating... Considering I just spent $900 to waste hours and hours of my life trying to configure and get this computer to work as it should. Not to mention the hold times when calling apple care. However I enjoy the extended battery life and speed of the device, so now that it's working it's fine I guess. As far as the Microsoft bundle protection or whatever it is - I haven't even installed it on the computer so I don't really know anything about it.

This computer is light-weight, sturdy, operates at a high speed, and is extremely user friendly. It operates for days without needing to be charged and has a wide screen- ideal for watching movies! I like everything about it. I have been a PC person since I began using electronics. However, after my third pc laptop started to be more of a nuisance than a actual tool for productivity... slow processing speeds, repeated crashing, failing hardware- sound card, dying batteries, mystery viruses... I decided that a Mac maybe the way to go. Also the MacBook air price was comparable to PCs that would fall in roughly the same categories, but outperforms all of the them.

I was really torn between the MacBook Air 11.6 and the new Macbook Retina. I am a fanatic about display quality. I have an iPad Air with retina and I use a Dell 28" 4k monitor. I spent time in the Apple Store comparing them. In the end I found that the display of the MacBook Air 11.6 was very good. After using it for a couple weeks I'm not looking back. I'm very happy with my decision. Other pluses include that the MacBook Air 11.6 supports my Dell 4k monitor. It looks just amazing. It's more powerful with better graphics than the new MacBook. There are better port options. It also is so much less expensive. It has good battery life. It still is very light and ultraportable. Yet when I use it I don't feel cramped. This little laptop has quickly become my primary device. The other limitation I was concerned about was the 128 GB disk. To compensate I plugged in a USB 3.0 ultra fit low profile SanDisk 64 GB flash drive. I formatted it as a Mac disk. I pointed my iTunes library to this. This has helped mitigate any storage concerns I had. I have used Mac minis for years. Also I have used iPhones and iPads. Yet I always used windows laptops. I'm sorry I waited so long to get a MacBook. Very happy with this purchase.

This was my very first experience with Mac, as well as a purchase I carefully thought about before committing to it. My goal was to get a current, portable laptop that I could travel with, was very light, with good battery life and at least USB 3.0 I/O. I was amazed how quickly the Mac boots up, it is also pretty much silent, with no fans to make noise. Aside from intensive CPU processes such as video editing (that's more for a MacBook Pro), the Air doesn't get really hot. The keyboard is better than I expected, very responsive, and the touchpad is nice, though I prefer a mouse. The screen resolution is good, above 720p, with surprisingly decent audio output. The battery is very long lasting, and the charger uses a strong magnet hold, it recharges quickly too! I have yet to test the power that is the Thunderbolt connector, probably going to expand it with a dock, but I'm confident the features it provides will more than satisfy my needs. The two USB 3.0 ports work nicely already, I was able to transfer a 2.0 GB 1080p video clip from a microSD card via a card reader to an external HDD (using the Air as a conduit) in under two minutes, very impressive. Even though video editing is best on stronger MacBooks, the Air was able to render a three-minute video to 720p in under ten minutes with iMovie, far better than what I had with my 2009 Dell Inspiron dual-core on Sony Movie Studio. The flash storage built into the MacBook is what makes it fast, but the lower capacity may turn some users away. A simple external HDD is all that's needed to fix it! I'd rather have the speed than capacity tied to a slow boot. The Mac OS is fairly responsive and does take a bit of adaptation, but not as bad as I thought it would be. If I were switching solely to Mac, I wouldn't have to worry about file compatability with Windows, but I've found solutions to it. Despite the cost, I found this to be a worthy buy! Perhaps in a few years I'll add a MacBook Pro to my collection too!

Loving my new MacBook Air after a few weeks of use. Was hesitant on the smaller 11" size, but got sitting on the couch, watching movies on the road and basic word document type stuff, it's perfect. Very lightweight and portable and plenty fast. Haven't really tried to push the thing very hard as it's not a gaming rig or anything, but I was able to play an hour straight of Portal 2 with no lag or issues. Its a new Apple machine, so no surprises...amazingly fast start up time and it does what you'd expect a new small laptop to do. Also has a great battery life. My wife's cat ate the power cord and it lasted me 5 days with about an hour or two of Web surfing each day with no issues.

I bought the Macbook Air to replace a 2011 Macbook. I use my computer for internet browsing (and related Youtubing and Spotifying), word processing, and some light GoPro editing. This laptop is more than enough to handle all that, while averaging about 8 hours of battery time of straight use. The screen is perfect size for me, even for my light video/photo editing. It's fast, loads everything very quickly, and is beautiful -- all the things you'd expect from Apple. The main reason I went for the Air is because I am usually on the go, and the weight (or lack of weight!) is great for transporting. I recommend that if you're a fairly basic laptop user and like portability, then this is a great laptop for you.
