I was on the fence about purchasing Apple TV but being able to get the latest model at a $10 savings pushed me over the top. This device makes it a snap to mirror content from my iPad onto my TV screen, which is the main reason I wanted it. My only real concern about Apple TV is the tiny black remote control which is very easy to lose in the cushions of a sofa or chair and is almost impossible to see once it gets concealed in a dark crevice. It might be a good idea for Apple to include a spot to attach a tether to the remote, like you see on many flash drives. This might make it harder to lose the remote and a bit easier to locate in the dark. Just a thought.

We bought this to use with our basic LCD TV - we didn't need the 4K one, we already have that one with our HD TV. We like it and it makes streaming a lot easier.

I went to buy this with the main purpose of being able to mirror my online cable tv app. i watch on my computer to my smart TV. It does this but I find that it buffers, which could just mean too many wireless connections coming to my router. Anyway, it's great if you want to buy or rent movies from iTunes, listen to your music through your tv or play games from the app store, but it's way too tedious to download every tv station app, and make a login for them. Maybe eventually Apple will have a program built around the cable tv provider you have.
