I’m genuinely impressed with how smooth and quiet the Arlo Essential Pan Tilt camera moves — it feels like having an extra set of eyes that never blinks. The 2K quality is crisp, even in dim lighting, and I love the privacy shutter that closes with a simple tap. It’s sleek, smart, and gives me peace of mind without feeling intrusive.

This arlo camera is one of the best cameras I own. The fact that it can rotate 360 degrees and have the 180 degree tilt is a huge win. It’s currently in my garage and it covers every square inch. The only thing I would like is if it was battery operated instead of cable.

I really like the fact that the camera isn’t the affordable and it has so much functionality. Aside from the pant and zoom feature I really enjoy the fact that it gives me a sense of privacy because it goes into privacy mode when the system is not armed.

I own a few different outdoor cameras, but I liked that this was an internal camera that had detection features, pan, and tilt along with the ability to record sound. A few of the really good items. The picture is crisp and clear. You can zoom and rotate the camera manually. While there is some lag, it's not too bad. I like that it records as long as you have a subscription and the camera is "armed", it seems to record for as long as there is an item in view. It records audio and sends me an alert when there is an issue. I suspected that since it could record sound, it would also be able to "look around" when it hears sound while armed, but this is not the case. So you need to make sure your camera is setup in an area where it's normal position can see everything. Another key feature that was concerning was it's inability to swivel back around when an item moves outside of its range of view. It seems that this camera thinks the item is no longer within view when this occurs, which was highly disappointing. So I say again, make sure the camera is in a location that will require minimal twisting. Finally, you must have a subscription. There is no memory card option to record and watch back, so if you don't pay, you have very limited options to access when you aren't home. You can still access a live feed, but you will need to screen capture. Otherwise, you need to purchase the plan for $8. It's not bad, but takes some effort to best know how to use it, which is certainly not the position you want to be in if you ever need it.

I currently have five Arlo outdoor cameras around the outside of my house.  I’ve used them for years, and appreciate their solid performance.  Until now, I haven’t added any of their inside cameras, but I’ve been anxious to incorporate them into my Arlo ecosystem and see how they perform.  Let’s face it, there are a huge number of home monitoring cameras out there these days and a lot of them will do the job for very little buy in.  Are the Arlo cameras worth the extra money, that’s really the question.   For the camera itself, $40 to $50 is not a really big deal (although there are much cheaper cameras available), but anyone looking to build their home monitoring system from scratch will want a number of cameras to start with.  This camera is very competent for the price and offers people a lot of great features for the money.  It is a “plug in” camera, so there is no on board battery that needs to be charged, and having to plug it in, is a lot easier inside the house than it normally is outside.  It has 360 degree rotation and it can be tilted up and down 180 degrees as well.  You can let the camera follow any motion it senses, or you can log into it and manually pan, tilt and zoom yourself.  The 2K resolution is very good, and I don’t see any advantage to looking for a 4K camera.  2K is just fine for looking at babies, pets and adults.  When it comes down to it, the difference between 2K and 4K is pretty minimal.   The Arlo app has been around for a long time and it’s very well laid out.  You need to use the app to set up all the camera features (like most other cameras).  Detailed video settings, night vision, audio settings, zones, camera home positions, etc..  It has 2.4 or 5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity, so no should have a problem getting the camera connected on their home network.  I’ve found the network connection on all my Arlo cameras to be very solid.  I also have an Arlo base station (hub), but that’s not needed for this camera to function.  The hub buys you a USB port that you can connect external storage to.  This allows you store all the clips yourself and not rely on the Arlo cloud.  And in case anyone is wondering, there is no microSD slot on this camera.  So this brings up the question of, what are the options for storing video clips with the Arlo ecosystem?   This where I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Arlo.  When I first bought in to the Arlo system, a subscription was not needed, and they still offered you a month of cloud storage for your video clips.  Over time, that has changed to what it is today.  If you want to self monitor your cameras and not pay the subscription fee, your feature set drops pretty drastically, but it can be done.  Without an Arlo base station, you won’t have any way to store video clips, so you would need to buy the right base station and your own external storage device (HDD or SSD).  About the only functionality you will still get is live view.  Which for something like a baby monitor or pet cam is probably ok, but you’d be missing out on a huge amount of features, not the least of which are the notifications that identify what caused the video to start recording, an animal, a person, a vehicle, or a package left on your porch.  Currently, you have your choice of three different subscription tiers.  $7.99/month for a single camera, $17.99/month for unlimited cameras, or $24.99/month for the premium tier which includes professional monitoring.  I have the middle tier.  Am I happy with the service?  It functions pretty flawlessly, so overall I’d have to say yes.  Am I happy with the subscription fee?  Absolutely not.  So you have to decide how you want to use these cameras.  If the subscription is something you can tolerate, and you want to keep an eye on your entire house both inside and out by adding as many cameras as you want, then you won’t find a better system in my opinion.  Arlo does have a very feature rich app that’s simple to use and cloud based with a 60 day video history.  This is plenty of time to look at an occurrence and download the video if you want to keep it.  It does a great job of recognizing packages, animals, vehicles or a person and can alert your phone of every single one.   The Arlo app and ecosystem is really where you’ll see the benefits shine.  It does a great job monitoring your whole house and they have a lot of different cameras to choose from.  A lot of them also include built in spotlights.  I’ve purchased after market solar panels to charge all my exterior cameras and they work great.  But another downside is that Arlo does not play well with other ecosystems.  I have Home Assistant, but I have no way to integrate the Arlo cameras into that ecosystem directly or my home security ecosystem.  The cameras work great with the Arlo app, and for most of us, that’s about it.  They do have Amazon Alexa, IFTTT, Smart Things and Google Home “support”.  What that means for you will depend on what kind of smarthome devices you have already, and how adept you are at interfacing with them. As far as the Essential 1 camera, I'm completely happy with it. Like all my other Arlo products, it works easily and solidly. You can add the camera to your Arlo dashboard (provided you continue to use the app), so for anyone who already has the Arlo ecosystem, or plans to use it in the future, this camera integrates seamlessly. What you pay for with the Arlo subscription is basically all the features that any of their cameras offer. And the features are extensive and very easy to get used to using. I love the way you can log into the Essential 1 and pan, tilt and zoom it anyway you want to. You can set a home position for it, so it monitors a specific angle. You can set up zones for it to specifically get tripped to record. You can get notifications when it does get tripped. You can also have it set off an internal siren if it senses specific things. These are some of the best cameras out there, and they work well as a stand alone system.

Great Pan & Tilt Camera with Privacy in Mind

I needed a wired pan and tilt camera for inside the work area of the studio, that would work with the other Arlo Products. I decided to go with another Arlo product to keep it in the same system, so grab the Arlo Essential Pan Tilt Indoor Wireless 2K Security Camera. Pros: - Simple Setup. - Clear Video and Audio. - Full room coverage with Pan & Tilt. - Worked with existing Arlo Products. Cons: - App is not the easiest to navigate. Setup: Like my other Arlo experience, as I already had the Arlo Secure App, I just had to open the app up and add the new device. Following the step-by-step instructions, I was able to add the camera in less than 1 min, though there were some updates after adding the camera. I wasn’t planning to wall mount the camera yet, I might attach it to the ceiling in the center of the workspace but for now I’ll have it to one side up above. Software: Again, my only complaint about the Arlo Camera is the Arlo Secure App. For all the guided setup, the app layout is not very user friendly, at least I don’t find it to be. As it is setup as a security app first, the defaults focus on the system status instead of the camera feeds. After spending time using the app, I was familiar with how to navigate it and configure the smart features which now work as I want, but the initial impression of the app has not gone away. On the bottom of the app are tabs for Dashboard, Feed, Emergency, Devices, and Routines. Each tab allows you to review or modify different settings of the system. I mostly use the Dashboard and Feed tabs, reviewing the current view of the cameras on the dashboard and checking prior events in the feed. One difference to note about the Indoor Cameras compared to the Outdoor Cameras is the requirement to login with the Password to view the live feed from the app. As annoying as this might be, it is a great way to protect your privacy and prevent unauthorized or unintentional views of the camera. Additionally, the Pan Tilt Camera will position itself to looking down when the Arlo System is in Standby mode, meaning you can very clearly tell when the camera is on and viewable as it will move and not be looking down. This is an amazing privacy feature; more pan tilt cameras should have this. Subscriptions: Arlo offers an optional subscription plan that provides enhanced features like cloud storage, smart detection, or professional monitoring. As I mentioned initially, I might down the road need to get a security system anyway, so having these cameras to monitor plus be the security system checks off 2 needs with 1 device. The subscriptions have 3 plans: per camera for $9.99/mo, unlimited cameras for $19.99/mo, or Premium for $29.99 per month. All plans can also be purchased as Annual plans, which reduces the price by $2 to $5 per month depending on the plan. If you want to completely avoid the subscription plan, you can also go the route of local storage with the Arlo SmartHub which will allow you to store your video data locally for longer periods of time. For now, I’m not going this route, but it is nice to have the options if I decide I need to retain the videos longer in the future. Cameras: The camera has a 2K resolution with a 130-degree field of view at 24 fps. Which allows you to capture a larger view of the room with plenty of details. I found the camera and microphone were able to clearly capture video and audio, with no distortion. The 2-way audio worked perfectly with the Pan Tilt camera, being clear on both my phone and camera. Even in night vision, the camera clearly captures the full room. With the spotlight, the colored night vision was easy to view. Motion: The motion of the camera allowed a full view of the room, only missing the space right below the camera (or above depending on if you mount the camera to the ceiling). I found the motion to be smooth and quiet, which is helpful if you are trying to be discrete or not draw attention to the camera. I did find the manual movement is a bit tricky to get the hang of as there is quite a bit of delay between your input and the camera moving, but this is to be expected as I’m controlling across multiple networks. Additionally, the camera can be set to record on both motion or noise, which is helpful if the activity is outside the range of detection. I’ll need to play around with the custom zones, to have the camera pan between entrances and windows of the studio to monitor while we’re away incase anything occurs, either break in or fire. Connectivity: I found that the cameras all maintained a solid wireless connection, though this will heavily rely on your wireless network more than the cameras. I had no issues streaming the cameras video to my phone when on or off the same network. There was some obvious latency, but only 2-3 seconds which was most noticeable when in the same room as the camera or when moving the camera around. Conclusion: If you’re looking for an indoor Pan & Tilt camera with plenty of features that also can work as part of a security system, then the Arlo Essential Camera Pan Tilt Indoor 2K Security Camera is a great option. Especially, if you already have Arlo products, then the camera is perfect addition to round out your system. I found it worked perfectly for my needs and the only concern I had was the layout of the app which you get used to after a bit of use.

The Arlo essential pan and tilt camera is a perfect edition to any existing Arlo ecosystem or if you are starting off new. This camera is perfect for watching pets, kids or general security for inside of your home. In my test, I used the camera in my living room so I can keep an eye on my pet and my toddler when I am in the next room. I was surprised by the quality of this camera and the sense of privacy you get when not using the camera...read on to learn more. Note this camera connects to you Arlo ecosystem wirelessly but it does not have an internal battery so you must plug in this camera with its included power cord (standard outlet). Unboxing/setup: Not much here, cut the tape, open the box, and take out the camera and power cable. A mount is included so one may attach the camera on a side wall. Setup was a breeze, I plugged in the camera, set it on my living room’s end table and since I already have Arlo camera’s I opened the Arlo Secure app I was ready. Once you have the app downloaded and sign in (or create an account) click the + plus sign on the top right corner of the app, select add device, select your styled camera and the app will take care of the rest including auto pairing. A super easy process. General use: The camera has been delightful to use while monitoring my dog or toddler. The best feature is when you have the camera set to unarmed/deactivated for recording or live stream it hides the camera face straight down. This makes it feel as though camera is not looking at you and since the camera is white it hides the black face nicely. The face hiding is my favorite feature of this camera! The camera is quick at moving around during pan and tilt needs and is equipped with a home button which has a pre set setting ( centers the camera) or you can customize and set where you would like the camera to point. As stated the 2k quality is good and the camera as person and pet recognition so it can identify who is a stranger or not. It can detect the difference between a dog noise, someone talking, or sounds in your home. It can detect glass breaking and if a fire or co alarm is going off which then it will push a notification to your phone. The night vision on this model is not colored but it does work well. The only thing I wish that this model had is a spot light feature and although the camera is only meant for indoors it would pair nicely if you need to check on things inside your home at night (without the need of night vision). Two audio also works well. Final thoughts: This pan and tilt camera really does everything that I could want and does it well. Adding this to my exiting profile of Arlo cameras was super simple and it simply always works when I need it most which is highly important. I strongly recommend the Arlo ecosystem!

A Smarter Way to Keep an Eye on Things Let’s face it—home security can feel overwhelming. But this next-gen indoor security camera makes it refreshingly simple. It’s sleek, smart, and designed with real people in mind. Whether you’re keeping tabs on your pets, checking in on the kids, or just want peace of mind while you’re away, this camera has your back. Setup That Doesn’t Make You Sweat One of the first things you’ll notice? It’s incredibly easy to install. You’ve got two options: place it on a flat surface for a quick setup, or use the included wall mount for a more permanent spot. Everything you need is in the box—no last-minute hardware store runs required. The power cable is a bit short, but that’s a small trade-off for the flexibility and ease of setup you get. Crisp Video, Day or Night The 2K resolution is no joke. Whether it’s daylight or pitch black, the footage is sharp, colorful, and detailed. You’ll be able to spot faces, read labels, and catch even the smallest movements. And when the lights go out, the night vision kicks in seamlessly, keeping things just as clear. Smarter Than Your Average Camera This isn’t just a camera—it’s a full-on security assistant. It detects motion and sound with impressive accuracy, and thanks to its ability to pan 360° and tilt 180°, it can cover an entire room without missing a beat. The real magic? Motion tracking. When something moves, the camera follows it smoothly, keeping the action in frame. It’s like having a security guard who never blinks. The App: Your Control Center The companion app is where everything comes together. It’s clean, intuitive, and packed with features. You can set up custom detection zones, tweak your alerts, and check in live from anywhere. Even if you’re not super tech-savvy, the app walks you through setup and settings with ease. Night Vision + Two-Way Talk = Total Peace of Mind When the sun goes down, this camera doesn’t miss a beat. The infrared night vision delivers clear, detailed images in the dark. And with two-way audio, you can talk to whoever’s on the other side—whether it’s calming a barking dog or saying hi to the kids after school. Big Features, Friendly Price Here’s the kicker: despite all these high-end features, the price is surprisingly reasonable. There’s a tiny bit of recording lag, but it’s barely noticeable and doesn’t take away from the overall experience. For what you get, it’s a fantastic value. Final Verdict: A New Gold Standard for Indoor Security This camera doesn’t just watch your home—it respects it. With smart features, thoughtful design, and a user-first approach, it sets a new bar for what indoor security should feel like: easy, reliable, and reassuring. If you’re looking for a camera that blends brains, beauty, and budget-friendliness, this one’s a no-brainer.

    "Essential" Camera To Have!

The Arlo Essential 1-Camera Pan/Tilt Indoor 2K Security Camera is a motorized option for those who like to have a dynamic option on the inside of their home or within their garage. Having used several Arlo systems including the Pro 3, Pro 5, Ultra 2, Ultra 3, and Essential cameras, I would say this is one of my favorite products within the lineup. IN THE BOX: 1x Essential Indoor Pan/Tilt Camera 1x Indoor Charging Cable (6.5ft) 1x Indoor Power Adapter 1x Wall Mount and Screw Kit 1x Quick Start Guide SETUP: Setting up this camera is very simple. The Essential cameras can be used with or without a smart hub. Since we already have a system with a hub, I chose to add it to the hub and it took only a few minutes within the Arlo Secure app. BUILD QUALITY: This camera uses some design from the others but because this one is an indoor option, it doesn’t have all of the protection of the indoor/outdoor version. It still feels very solid and offers two mounting options (tabletop or wall/ceiling). The cord is only 6.5ft long so keep this in mind depending on where you are placing it. FEATURES/VIDEO QUALITY: This camera offers 2K video recording which is a solid step up from the standard 1080p of the past. The video actually looks very good indoors in most lighting situations. Given the fact it will follow motion, it keeps the object centered in the frame which makes the quality even better. In addition, this camera features 2-way audio communication so you can talk with others or use the siren feature. The Dual Band Wifi with 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ frequencies allows for faster data transfer and/or more stable connections. I experienced no issues with the signal from the base station. APP: After using the Arlo Secure App for years now, I still think the app isn’t the most intuitive. The app has gotten more reliable over time. The features within the app are pretty good with lots of customization which can be done through the website login as well. The live view picture for this camera was surprisingly good. The app allows you to set up all of the motion tracking or manually move the camera along with 2-way communication. OVERALL: The Arlo Essential 1-Camera Pan/Tilt Indoor 2K Security Camera is a great addition to your indoor or outdoor security system if you are able to plug the device in. It works extremely well in tracking movement and allows for better visibility in a given area. The privacy feature that turns the camera downwards and turns off recording is great for indoor use. If you currently have an Arlo system or are looking to start out, I would recommend this camera.

I’ve been using the Arlo Essential 1-Camera Pan-Tilt Indoor 2K Security Camera for just over a week, and it’s already a seamless, invaluable addition to my existing Arlo security setup. I mainly got it to keep tabs on our little dog Luna when she’s out of her kennel while we’re away and it’s been nothing short of amazing. First off, the panning and tilting is where this camera truly stands out. With the app, I can remotely control a full 360-degree pan and 93-degree tilt, sweeping across nearly the entire open-plan living room and kitchen from a single spot on my entertainment center. No more blind spots. I can follow Luna in real time as she darts from her bed to the window or attempts to snag a treat from the counter. The 2K resolution is crisp enough to catch every movement, ear twitch, and suspicious sniff, even in our moderately lit space. It’s not just great for pet monitoring, I’ve already imagined how useful this wide field of view would be for spotting package thieves or, heaven forbid, a break-in. Setup was a breeze: plug it in, sync to my Arlo app in minutes, and it integrated perfectly with my other cameras. The plug-in design means it’s always powered and ready, and the white finish blends seamlessly with our decor. I love the two-way audio. Luna perks up when she hears my voice, which has cut down on her anxious whining on longer days away. Motion detection alerts are smart and customizable; I only get notified when she stirs and not for every passing shadow. I also tested the night vision which kicks in smoothly for early evening check-ins, and since it’s plug-in powered, it’s always on, always ready, no battery swaps, and no downtime which I like. The only potential downside for some may be that it’s not battery-powered, so you’ll need an outlet nearby. For me, that’s no issue. But if you want full wireless flexibility in hard-to-reach spots, keep that in mind. Overall, this is a fantastic indoor camera, especially if you’re already in the Arlo ecosystem. Whether you’re a pet parent wanting peace of mind or need reliable, high-quality monitoring with zero fuss, I highly recommend recommend this product!

I’ll start my review by saying that I’ve been a little weary / skeptical about having a security camera inside my home. Mostly because I’ve heard of people having their cameras hacked and spied on while they’re online. That being said, I read about the industry leading privacy and security features that Arlo provides with this product so I finally decided it was time to give one a try! The Arlo security app makes it super easy to set up, literally took me five minutes or so to set it up. The app has a cool privacy mode that actually forces the camera to rotate downward and covers the lens. You can leave it on that mode as long as your are home if you wish, and you can set a “routine” for the times you are usually away from home. There is also audio and motion detection available in this camera when you set it to “arm home or arm away”. It is quite smart and will automatically alert your phone when it detects a sight or sound. It can also alert your local emergency services if you choose to. I believe you have to have an active subscription for the Arlo secure plans for that though. My favorite thing about this camera is the ability to pan and tilt the camera from within the app. So cool! You can live stream feed to your app for free. In order to use the other features such as record history, you’ll need to subscribe to a relatively affordable Arlo plan. Camera quality is good, better than I was expecting actually. It is 2K and can also activate night vision when your home is dark. It has two way audio should you decide to speak through it from your phone. I like that it is plug in and can be place on any flat surface. The base is very sturdy, and the camera has a nice build quality. It is small, inconspicuous and doesn’t distract attention from your home. All in all, I think it is a really great camera for security and just checking in on your pets or loved ones while your away. It is highly affordable and you can tether multiple of them together! Would I recommend it? For sure! Especially if you want some peace of mind and security for your property and loved ones.

So far I have been very pleased with my new Arlo Essential pan/tilt security camera. There is a lot to like about this camera. First and foremost is the ease of setup. Using the Arlo app, all you have to do is click the add device icon and select "pan tilt" camera. The app finds the camera and connects to it. It runs a firmware update, then you are good to go. It is a very easy process. The default settings of the Arlo camera is to track moving objects. It is kind of cool to see it moving around as you walk around it. I quickly shut after a few minutes as it was getting kind of annoying. Depending on an individuals needs and placement is where this can be very handy. I have the camera in my dog's room and use it to keep an eye on them when I am not home. The image quality is very good. I have good wifi signal strengh where I keep the camera, so I am able to use maximum resolution settings with no issues. The playback image is also very good and only about a 2 second delay. The audio playback from the camera is also very good and very clear. Overall, I feel that this camera is perfect for keeping an eye on anything in your home with full articulation. The image and audio quality is very good and playback is a breeze. All of this paired with an improved Arlo app makes this an easy purchase for anyone looking for an indoor security camera.

I've been a long time Arlo security system user. I started with the older Pro2 cameras and have upgraded numerous times over the years. I mostly use the Essential line these days. I have 11 outdoor cameras and 3 indoor cameras across two houses. The system in general has it's flaws (slow captures, delayed real time features, and cost), but it works better than other systems I've tried. One thing about all the current Arlo cameras was they they were fixed. You pointed the cameras and that was it. If something happened in frame then moved out of frame, you wer out of luck. That is why I was happy to hear about Arlo's new Essential line with pan/tilt capabiliy. I bought the indoor Essential pan/tilt camera. The main camera seems to be pretty much the same as the other essential liine cameras- 2k resolution with night vision. This one is mounted to a pan/tilt gimbal. No batteries here, it is all powered from a USB-C connection. The base of the camera is fairly large, but it's designed to sit on a flat surface, mount to a wall or even mount overhead with the included mounts. I really like all the mounting options. Connecting the camera to the Arlo app was easy. I've struggled in the past with the app recognizing new cameras, but Arlo's recent game has been good and I've had no recent problems. This unit was easy. Once connected, the app walks you through a tutorial of the camera including how to pan/tilt and how to configure the settings for features like having the camera follow people in frame or a scan mode. For under $60, the features of this camera are impressive. It pans and tilts very smoothly, follows people in frame easily, and returns to it's home position when needed. It even has a privacy mode where the camera tilts down to point at it's base. The video captured through the app is clear. At night, it's a little less clear but usable. The tracking of people works well too if left to it's own methods. Overall a great camera but... But it does have one incredibly annoying flaw. In the Arlo app, you can bring up the camera and put it into real time mode so you can actively see what is happening in your home. There is a virtual joystick on the screen used for pan/tilting the camera. The flaw is that the video delay between the camera and app is SO BAD it makes the camera almost useless as a real time monitor. The camera responds quickly and tracks quickly (you can set the speed). But the delay in the real time video is horrible and you end up overshooting or aiming at the wrong location. It's incredibly frustrating. I like this camera and like what it can do. I'm going to keep it and may actually buy another for my second home. They are very affordable compared to older Arlo cameras, so it doesn't cost much to outfit your home. I'm just going to have to operate them with the knowledge that panning or tilting in real time is useless. The rest of the camera operations are well worth the investment.

Great camera for home and pets — clear 2K video, easy to control through the app, and smoothly tracks movement. It reacts well to sound and motion, and the privacy shutter is a nice touch. Only downside — some features require a subscription.

This is by far one of the coolest Arlo cameras that I own. And I own at least 10 of their cameras. Three different models but again this swivel tilt camera beats them all. Of course, pairing it with the Arlo hub on my app took a few minutes, but after it synced, I was up and running It’s a little bigger than I thought it would be, but we decided to put it on the fireplace mantle and disguise it with two non-lit candles. The purpose for me getting this camera was to spy on my dog when we are not home. But I will say when we are not home, including the dog, I like to peek in to make sure nothing has changed so it gives me a sense of Security to be able to look around parts of my house without even being there. Listening in is easy tapping to talk is also very easy and I’m moving the camera around. Reminds me of playing a video game. I also choose to pinch in Zoom to better see certain things. The only drawback was my dog did not like it moving or talking and not being able to get to it so for a while, she barked at it.
