Well after months of searching for the best headset and trying out turtle beach after turtle beach I just couldn't find one that had the right balance of chat and game play audio, so when I read some reviews on these astro a50 wireless headset I decided to purchase some and boy was in surprised, not only are they easy to set up but the quality of sound is amazing, booming bass for explosions if you're playing any fps or watching a movie late night with the sound off the TV so as not to wake anyone up but you can almost feel surrounded by the sound of whatever you're watching or playing, and they are hands down the most comfortable headset I've ever owned. I even picked one up for the wife lol

I bought these for two reasons! The first is because I have wanted a pair of these for about 3 years now and been watching them time and time again. I have wanted them for a bunch of reasons and the best reason I wanted these was due to the fact that these are the best wireless headset for the Xbox One and it comes with the cable for it!!! Yes you have to connected a chat cable to the controller but that is nothing. And I'm tired of people complaining about that its not true wireless due to that. Anyways they are amazing and the sound quality is beyond perfect!!! The second reason I got these was so I could play while the wife and kids were sleeping so I wouldn't wake anyone up!!! So far they have exceed that expectation and nobody has heard me. Even the mic is sensitive that it can hear me talk at a lower volume! I don't like whispering in my friends ears but they said they could understand me when I did whisper to test the microphone. I would definitely spend the money for these! They are very comfortable and very stylish! The sound options on this are amazing and can filter between the chat or the game volume and then you can control the overall volume too!! If you were even considering these, you need to quit reading this and just order or go and pick up a pair!!!

This is my second set of A50's the first ones was used for the Xbox 360 and I converted them over to the Xbox One, while they do a decent job it just doesn't give you the total freedom that you would think 300.00 should give you. The sound is ok but remember you are always only going to get what the console will give you. Customer service is only ok, the lack of an easy to reach tech support or return policy for adults is cause for alarm when you have issues. Battery life is a issue with the newer headsets only about 5 hours on average and if you send the headset in for this issue you will hear this "no issue found" or "couldn't get duplicate reaction" while you're without the headset for weeks.
While the BestBuy warranty is a little difficult at times and you purchase it every time you use it I highly recommend it with all these products. If you're a full time gamer and need the sounds and clarity the wired A40 or Turtle Beach are better but my over all preference is the Steelseries H wireless for everyday gaming pro and amateurs alike just a little pricy at about 320.00

I absolutely love my Astro A50s. They are lightweight and don't give me headaches after long hours of wear. They are durable and definitely worth the price. Easy to hook up to both Xbox One and PS4 (I use a optic cable switcher to easily switch back and forth).
My only wish is that I could use them with my phone.

I've tried all the other competitors, thankfully these were the last pair I compared as they are amazing! The sound is Crystal clear, highs and lows. But best of all, these are by FAR the most comfortable that I have tried.

i've owned several astro's and have been a long time fan. there was quite a bit of popping and crackling noises with these. i switch controllers, tried exchanged for another set and several other troubleshooting tips.
i really tried to love them as much as my a40's and gen 1 a50s but even after opening a support case with them zach just tried to run me around (i will not make this a review about him even though he was terrible) and wasted my time for days.
after a week of troubleshooting and getting run in circles, i finally gave up and very sadly returned them. i felt like i broke up with a longtime girlfriend/boyfriend. it was a sad day.

I was very skeptical about this headset because of all the mixed reviews, but I thought I would give them a try. These blew my expectations out of the water! I love how there is only one wire to the controller compared to my old headset there were wires everywhere. The sound is crisp and clear, and they can get pretty loud when I crank them up. People said they can hear me fine on the mic and it adjusts nicely so I can have it close to my mouth. They are nice and lightweight and are so comfortable and my ears never get hot or uncomfortable! I would recommend these to anybody give them a try! I also love best buys 6 month financing to pay it off monthly which is very convenient.

These were more expensive than I realized, however, they are worth the price. They are wireless, comfortable, with great sound. I would buy a set for my PS3 and computer if I could choke the price again. If you read this review and are looking at the other versions for the other systems, highly recommend them. I really wish I would have bought these for my PC. I really do love them!

I have a revision 1 of the Astro A50's, and this version is even more solid than the last. Sound is amazing, super crisp and clear. Great amount of low end with out making everything muddy, or super clipped/distorted. Very comfortable for all head shapes. Mic sounds superior to many other devices out there. Had some audio drops only due to being next to router.
They unfortunately had to include a wire to connect to the controller for chat, other than that the headset is wireless... Why not make a set of headphones compatible for all consoles.... There are plaenty of devices that do this already.. that is the only con of this product. Do not waste your money on other garbage, these are the ticket.

At first I was a bit skeptical of paying $300 for a set of gaming headphones. Now that I have been using them for around a month my skepticism is gone!
The Astro A50s are worth the premium in comfort alone. The longest I have yet to game with them is 6 hours; but afterward my ears felt fine. They feel hefty in our hand yet when they are on your head they don't feel so heavy.
I was also quite worried that a wireless set of headphones would be lacking in the volume department. Absolutely wrong! The A50s can definitely get quite loud. At full volume your ears will probably be hurting after your gaming session. The quality of the sound itself is pretty great too. Surround sound is decent. Not amazing but decent. I am used to gaming with a true 5.1 system and while the A50s do a decent job of suround sound, they just can't beat 5 true speakers arranged around you. Living in a condo though I wanted higer volume so decided on a pair of headphones. Plus, gaming with the MS chat adapter messes up sound as you can only hear out of one ear.
Everyone else complains about the mic but I have yet to have a problem with it. The people I game with say it sounds fine. I have recorded myself for some game feeds and sound is just fine there too. Pushing the mic closer to your face helps out alot.

My son has always had the highest end Turtle Beach wireless headsets and always bought the additional warranty. Unfortunately we have always needed to use that warranty! My son loves Turtle Beach but that's all he has had. So Santa dropped off the Astro 50 to shake it up a bit. So far he likes them with the only downsides is that to chat online you need to be plugged into the controller and also charging the unit if it is running low while playing it must be plugged into charger. Headset does come with a stand to hang them on which is nice while they charge overnight.

These Astros are amazing. Me and my husband are huge gamers and thanks to a recent bad experience with Turtle Beach vs this amazing experience with these Astros, we are now loyal customers of Astros.
As far as wireless, they connect to your controller and are wireless from there to the transmitter that plugs into your console. Super easy setup.
They are super comfortable on your head. They don't even really even touch your ears as they cup all around them. Best fit we have had in headsets.
It is ridiculous at how awesome the surround is in these. We felt like we should've been using Astros all along. It really is the best sound out of a headset that we have ever heard.
Battery life is great if you game for 5-6 hrs. If you game longer you may have to charge them for a bit and go back at it again.
The stand is nice that these sit on.
People can hear us clearly with them.
They take a little bit of getting used to on how the chat volume vs game volume adjusts and the instructions aren't super clear at explaining that but it is able to be figured out fairly quickly.
The only negative thing I can even think of is that the controller has been saying it is disconnecting a lot in the middle of what we are doing. This starts and does it back to back about 5 times to both of us at seperate times before finally straightening itself out and returning to normal. This affects chat and audio while it does it. We have updated the controllers and the headset transmitters and it is still doing it. We were not having this issue prior to having the 2 sets of Astros. May be an Xbox problem so I am not going to count this as a star loss because they truly are the best we've ever had and way better quality than I imagined I could hear. After returning the Turtle Beach Elite 800s which I also reviewed, we will be happily keeping the Astro A50's. Thank you Astro for making such an awesome headset to game with and getting it right.

So the sound quality, comfort, and chat are excellent. I had turtle beach 500's before these for old gen systems. I been waiting years for a fully wireless headset that works great for ps4 and Xbox one. While this isn't fully wireless, it at least works great on both next gem systems I just wish that Xbox chat cable wasn't needed, but that's an Xbox flaw.
Now, one very annoying issue I experience frequently has to deal with mic issues. I actually had two of these headsets and the first one had to mic go bad after a few uses. I swapped them out and so far so good. But one thing I noticed can be a ps4 issue or something with the headset. After a day's use I hook the headset up to the charger via a usb in front of the ps4 and put the ps4 into rest mode. I noticed quote a few times be mic wasn't working in game chat. You could hear your voice brought feedback, but nothing in game. But restarting the ps4 fixes it. My guess is something with rest mode.
Oh one more thing, the set up is annoying as it requires changing settings on ps4. I believe the Xbox requires it as well, haven't played with it on the Xbox as I have been playing COD on ps4 a lot.
I wish this was a plug and play headset that requires nothing more then a sync.
Overall a great buy, until something better comes out

Best Wireless Headset for Consoles

I have owned the previous rendition of the Astro A50, as well as the Astro A40. I have also owned several wired and wireless Turtle Beach headsets. The A50 is by far the best console gaming headset on the market if you are looking for a wireless solution. The build quality is top notch as expected from Astro. Turtle Beach headsets really do not compare. TB headsets use cheap plastic and the cushion pieces always look/feel very cheap. This is the complete opposite with Astro headsets.
The design and comfort-ability of the Astro A50 is also top notch. My favorite part of the next generation of A50s for the Xbox One is the small adapter that it comes with to connect to the controller for chat. The previous A50s required the use of the Microsoft Chat Adapter which then required an awkward 50/50 mix setup.
Pros:
- Comfort
- Design
- Clear wireless 7.1 audio
Cons:
- Still requires a connection to the controller for chat. Turtle Beach has exclusive license rights to fully wireless solutions.

This headset takes gaming to the next level. It lets you hear every nuance that you miss with TV speakers and the sound quality is pretty good. It is so comfortable that I often forget I'm wearing it.
I have the Xbox One version so it lets you control game volume and chat volume by pressing on either side of one of the ear pieces. It uses optical audio input so you can also use it with your PC or cable box to watch TV.
Only two negatives: it has a stereo output that doesn't seem to work and the battery only lasts 6 hours.

So there I was, in the thought process of making a life changing decision to upgrade my headset...
This headset completely blew away my expectations! I had gotten the turtle beach XO Sevens with everything turtle beach could throw towards it. I was always swapping out new pieces so I could "hear" the footsteps of other players. I never really could hear my surroundings. I had previously gotten the tritton pro + headset and that was by far closer than the turtle beach headset could bring me in specific noise audio. But then, I made the move of a lifetime. I decided to try the 3rd company Astro. What the heck right? I was finally able to put some money down and grab these. Never have I heard such quality sound from a gaming headset before. It is absolutely crazy in the sound category! The ear cups are super soft and the headset is by far the most comfortable one out there. I was concerned of the heat it would cause on my ears, but I have had none! Whaaaaa?! I know right? I'm a big dude. I sweat a lot and this headset didn't get soaked!
Overall, if you're on the fence about this, you need to get it. You won't be disappointed. It's the best sounding thing out there. Oh yeah, you can hear whatever you want in these things! I finally heard footsteps in all the FPS games I play. As well as my sports games. No sound has been this crazy good. Wow....

I purchased these to use while my wife watches television. I have not used them with multiplayer first person shooters yet to really test out the 7.1 surround sound advantage but racing games and GTA V sound awesome on them. I gave them 4 stars because although they are comfortable, they do not seal up around the ears very well or have noise cancelling so I can hear outside noise through them even when played loud. Also the right ear cover doubles as a button and I have accidentally pressed it while removing them or placing them on my head. This button scrolls through the sound volume. One day they would not get very loud with the volume adjuster so I had noticed this ear cover clicks and was able to get them adjusted so the sound is loud. Also they lost sync one day. There was no sound. I had to resync them by holding down the power button for 5-10 seconds on the base then also on the headset. All was normal after that. Hope these tips help someone if you have trouble with the sound. I have read many reviews of the sound going out on them and I feel sure it is related to these quirks mentioned above.

I had been used this headset for 2 months. So far I have to say I'm very disappointed for the money which I paid for the headset. First, there are too many buzzing sounds in the middle of the games. Headset often stops for about 20 sec during online game.In call of duty, that can make you get killed. Secondly, the charging cable comes with its is too short so I have to buy another one longer. After plug in the cable i bought, the indicating LED becomes crazy. I cannot turn it off even I unplug the cable. The LED just doesn't go off as I want to turn it off. I turn on the mixamp, it still works and you can hear sound from the game. Turn off, nope. LED is still on. Lastly, charging and playing together the microphone produce sound even though I do not speak. The only thing this headset gets two star is it is comfortable. I wear it for 5 hours gaming and it does not hurt my ears.
It might get interfere with router signal for I place it close to the router, but for $300 I expect this should not be a problem. I want to return it so bad but it is too late now. Don't make mistake like me.

Recently purchased this wireless headset for use with my Xbox One, and when I set it up, I was pleasantly surprised to find thay the headset is also compatible with PS4 and PC! (Because the TX base station uses an Optical Input).
The headset handles Xbox One chat with an included Xbox One chat cable adapter that plugs into your controller. On PC and PS4, the TX transmitter base handles chat over USB, connected to the console or PC.
Sound quality is excellent, and on par to what I've come to expect from Astro. Low end frequencies (explosions, bass, etc) rumble appropriately but do not become overly distorted and unbearable to hear at high volumes. And the different EQ settings adjust the higher end frequency sounds in a really easy way for things like positional audio or dialogue. The mixing feature (Between game audio and chat audio) is pretty intuitive and cleverly implemented on the side of the ear cup.
Microphone sound quality however, leaves a lot to be desired, especially on PC. In my experience, your mic audio sounds just ok, and is clear enough, even after chat audio is compressed and crushed via the different codecs that consoles and PC programs use. The clever use of a mute function when the boom mic is in the up position is excellent.
I would especially recommend this SKU of the A50 headset if you own more than just an Xbox One console, as it will provide the best compatibility between most consoles/PC's that have an optical audio out with Dolby bitstream output.

I've had theae for a month after moving away from my turtle beach elite 800. These astro A50 are sweet but lack features and that extra sound quality that turtle beach provides. I got these because the elite 800 were VERY UNCOMFORTABLE and I could'nt wear them after 30 minutes because they were rubbing againt my ears. They are feature pack with built in bluetooth and the transmitter is really sweet but since their really uncomfortable i had to take them back and the next best thing I heard were these A50. They sound really really good and the hssss sound is almost completely absent unlike the elite 800 which the hsss sound was very noticible. The A50 work both on my xbox one and ps4 and supports wireless chat on ps4 which is sweet. The A50 doesnt have the flash and extra features like the elite 800 but it is a comfortable headset with good sound and almost no hssss sounds. Definitely buy the astro A50 if you have the same issues as me with the elite 800.
