Excellent gaming machine. Remember to run updates.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PC started up quickly and eventually handled the benchmark testing really well. The GPU and the RAM were both far above average performance. The two SSDs didn't pass the benchmark test the first two times I ran it. After some adjustments, they passed with flying colors. Straight out of the box, games were constantly crashing. I installed the graphics card utility software and discovered out of date drivers and firmware. They were updated and crashes stopped. The system is handling high graphics settings with no problem. It struggles a bit with ultra settings. The case appears to have excellent ventilation. Temperatures are well controlled, including the water cooler for the processor. There are multiple USB A 2.0 and SS ports in back, plus USB-C and USB-A SS ports on top. My wireless transceivers for my mouse and headset work perfectly with no signs of interference. Internally, there are two NVME slots, both occupied by drives from the manufacturer. There are two SATA ports on the motherboard, and they even include SATA cables and drive power cables, but there is no obvious mounting point for additional drives inside the case. I’m not sure if the intent is to set them on the base of the case, or if I am missing it. Last, the motherboard has one open PCIe slot. It would be nicer to have a full size motherboard with additional room for expansion. The case is a full tower, able to hold a standard ATX board, but the motherboard appears to be a micro ATX which limits the number of open PCIe slots. For easy access, the side panel is all glass, removable with two screws. Visibility inside is excellent. I really like the rows of RGB LED‘s inside and on the front. Overall, this is a nice computer with above average features straight out of the box. It is handling high graphics settings, has two NVME drives for excellent speed, and has a reasonable amount of memory with room for more. As with any computer, it is extremely important that all drivers are updated during setup. It works perfectly after that. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was excited to get this new system and started unboxing it as soon as it arrived. There isn't any packing material on the inside of the case that needs to be removed prior to first use. Instead a metal bracket to the back of the GPU that then screws into the case. A crude but effective way of dealing with transport and associated sag of the progressively larger GPUs these days. The film over the glass on the outside of the panel comes off easily with its pull tab. The inside does not have such a tab. It's unclear if it was meant to be removed or its supposed to have an off-blue tint. The screws for at least the side panels have threadlock on them so they don't loosen during shipping and over time, but it's of a light enough grade they're easy to remove with a screwdriver. These screws require a driver, which is a small annoyance when operating on internals for cleaning an upgrade compared to common thumb screws, but this does reduce the profile in packaging. Now a few things about the system itself. The liquid cooler cannot perform optimally as the design of the case does not allow for full airflow at the front. In addition to that, ASUS opted to remove the front fans entirely so the only thing cooling your GPU and motherboard is warm air from the liquid cooler and whatever is pulled from the tiny rear case fan. The hoses themselves looked to be a bit on the tense side, seemingly to show off the ASUS logo on the pump, but it's an easy fix since the inlet and outlet both rotate. Cable management in the back looks good, a lot better than what most people would do. The PC has a Great Wall (a good quality OEM supplier) power supply rated at what appears to be 750 Watts, so there's room to upgrade. The extra cables that go to the PC (a single SATA data cable, SATA power, an extra 8 pin and a legacy Molex power cable. No HDMI or display port cables.) are included which is a nice inclusion many prebuilts forget. The case size limits any new GPU to around 317mm in length to the back of the GPU to the side of the case. There is a bit more room under that lip but an RGB strip limits max size. Depth before hitting the glass is about 150mm from the motherboard. Drivers came preinstalled but were 7 months out of date. This is a pretty easy fix for the user but led to significantly lower performance before updating. Gaming performance: At 4k resolution and “highest” preset, the Shadows of the Tomb Raider demo’s benchmark has a minimum frame rate of 69 FPS, a max of 109 FPS, average of 80 FPS, and 95% of 71 FPS. The GPU is maxed out well before hitting what the CPU is capable of. At 4k resolution and max settings, Mount and Blade II Bannerlord’s internal benchmark tool gives an average performance of 120 FPS with a 1% low of 91 FPS. Again, the results show that the GPU is the bottleneck and the CPU is overkill for the GPU. Also at 4k and max settings, Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition’s benchmark gave average FPS of 189.3 for the first scene, 174.85 the second, 216.91 the third, 175.93 the fourth. Elden Ring at 4k max setting and maximum raytracing runs fairly well at 50fps on the low end in areas where you don't notice the raytracing. In more intense areas where things actually happen (specifically Liurnia of the Lakes and Volcano Manor) there will be dips to the low 30's with highs dropping to 40, which is playable but not the best experience. Unfortunately in Raya Lucaria the framerate can get to as low as 15fps and is usually only 30fps in outdoor areas. Overall the game should be playable at 4k but some settings will have to be sacrificed for a stable frame rate. Doom Eternal can’t be run at 4k at max settings with raytracing as the 4060 Ti 8 GB just does not have enough VRAM (even with DLSS) to run at those settings. Setting textures to “Ultra” (below "Nightmare" and "Ultra Nightmare") allows fitting otherwise maxed settings within the VRAM space. With that change the game runs perfectly fine at 4k on otherwise maxed settings, and even in intense areas it can easily maintain 60 FPS, dropping to mid-50s at the lowest. Nier: Replicant at 4k set to high with 16x texture filter at 4k runs in the lower 50's on average with some dip to the high 40's. Setting texture filter to 8x does seem to noticeably improve performance. The GPU temperature was averaging 57-60c at all times when I was running, which makes me feel like there's room for overclocking despite the lack of front fans. Overall: While billed as 4K Ready, if you're into 4k gaming with Raytracing, you should get the 4070 version or better, as the extra VRAM will be needed for some games unless you're willing to drop quality. The extra VRAM would also give it more versatility in text2img, training and other machine learning (“AI”) applications. At a lower resolution like 1440p or 1080p this PC will perform very well. A quick check says the price for the components is overall reasonable, costing only a few percentage points for preassembled. 4/5 stars . If the airflow weren't as poor and it used a less extravagant CPU and so it could afford to include the 16 GB version of the GPU (instead of the 8 GB version) it could have easily been five stars.

My ASUS ROG Gaming Desktop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far so good, I've had it up and running for a week now and have had no issues. Besides all the normal stuff I use the computer for, I also use it to play "World of Tanks". It works perfectly with the game. I am very happy with it! My son, who's 36 y/o, plays several games. He liked mine so much he retired his 3 y/o gaming computer and bought one exactly like mine and loves it.

Do Not Buy - Will Not Last
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this computer May 2022 from Best Buy. Doesn’t matter if I’m playing a game, browsing the web, or working on an excel sheet when randomly my screen would go black, any audio would cut out, and my monitor would say "Display Port No Signal", all while my PC would stay on. The only way to fix this is by pressing the power button to turn it off and then back on only for it to do it again less than 10 minutes later.

Posted .Dear JohnP,
Thank you for reaching out.
We do understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused if you are unable to play games properly. To resolve this issue, check if Windows is up to date, and the monitor and video cable are working properly. Additionally, while playing online games, ensure the PC has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since poor and unstable internet connection will affect system stability and performance. Furthermore, check your game, video and performance mode setting inside the Armoury Crate utility software, ensure the PC is running with the latest version posted at:  https://www.asus.com/supportonly/armoury%20crate/helpdesk_download/ . If these steps were performed to no avail, please try to run a diagnostics or optimization test using the "MyASUS" utility software or application. If this is not pre-installed on the laptop, please download the application at the Microsoft Store. For details on how to use "My ASUS", please go to: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1041686/.
