Mid-tier gaming rig that gets a bit toasty

It is a great laptop that can handle most things you throw at it. It cannot play the newest games on Ultra with high FPS. If you want a rig that can do that, I suggest just getting a desktop or you are going to be paying a very pretty penny for an insanely powerful gaming laptop. The only issues I had with it is that the surface above the keyboard would get quite hot. I understand laptops typically are hotter due to the limited cooling capabilities, but I was not impressed by the cooling ability. It never got dangerously high, but it was concerning. In the future, if I wanted something powerful, I would get something with at least 32 gb of RAM and better cooling. But overall, a beast of a laptop. Start up with the SSD is incredible.

Chip shortages all over the world, so you have to get what you can find. This has a wonderful screen and a powerful enough processor and graphics card. If you really need a 3070 or a 3080, then you really should get a desktop instead. Diminishing returns when it comes to high end graphics cards and laptops anyway. This one should last for a few years. If you think a computer should last for 10 years or more, get yourself a super budget laptop instead. If you are a tech realist, you know that this is all the gaming laptop you should need a while and that if you need anything more, you should build a desktop IF you can find any decent parts. What the best part of buying from Best Buy was their price match policy. Cost went down by $300 within 30 days of purchase and they gave me the difference. Awesome!!!

The M16 is a perfect laptop for a content creator who also games. the 16:10 ratio screen is bright, vibrant, and accurate. The performance for demanding apps and games is amazing. The keyboard is really good. The i/o is refreshing and it's pretty thin and light for what it is. I'm giving it 3 stars because of poor QC from Asus. This is an expensive laptop and this is my third unit - the other 2 have had terrible backlight bleed. The unit I ended up with still has bleed but not as bad.

      Dear Achandlersc,

Absolutely, the laptop is perfect for content creator and for gaming.

We certainly understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused.

All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, this is a random problem. Normally, ASUS provides one year warranty coverage, if product was purchased brand-new, in order to fix or repair any hardware or part that stop working prematurely under normal usage. Backlight bleeding is a property common with LCD. IF this is excessive, if beyond industry tolerance, we would like to see this and have it replaced.

If you need more information or further assistance with the warranty for the product, please email me at [email protected] and I would be more than happy to help. Or, you are always welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent at: http://bit.ly/AsusLiveChat.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

My husband games and wanted a computer that he can use on trips. We went with this one and have really loved it so far. The look of the computer is great, the graphics and screen are beautiful. Good battery life. Sometime will get hot while in use which is annoying but isn't that the case with all computers?

    Excellent, Fast Laptop Computer

I am very impressed with this new laptop computer. It is extremely fast with 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. It was preloaded with Windows 10 Home, but the first thing it did when I started it up was update to Windows 11, and I figured fine with me because I would be going there eventually anyway. Might as well start from the beginning. The 16" screen is amazing. And it has all the ports I wanted, built-in on the unit, which is not easy to find on thin, fast laptops these days-- RJ45 network, USB A and C, Thunderbolt, DisplayPort/Power Delivery, HDMI, Combo audio/microphone jack, and a Micro SD card slot. Based on a few reviewers, I was a little concerned whether heat exhaust vents on the back that blow toward the bottom of the screen would be a concern, but expert reviewers that tested this thoroughly pretty well relieved my mind, and my own personal experience for a month now shows no issue at all. Some reviews also complained about noisy vent fans, but again, my experience indicates no concern at all with fan noise. In fact, these highly efficient fans are far less noisy than my older Dell XPS 15, and they do not present any issue in my opinion. I am extremely impressed and happy with this laptop computer.

Very nice looking computer and super powerful. It is almost perfect, although it has some drawbacks which I would expect to not be present at this price point. Mine's speakers sound weird when on silent mode unplugged from charger (it kind of crackles). Also, there is a bit of backlight bleed, although it is minor and I don't really mind it because it is only noticable when the screen is completely black and on a high brightness. Other than that, it is really nice feeling, has an awesome keyboard and also runs pretty cool. The screen is amazing too.

I give asus 5 out of 5 for the design. This is the slickest laptop. Unfortunately the battery life is less than the amd g15. I value battery a lot that is why i took off 1 star. It also doesnt have hdmi 2.1 or mux switch. However because it is intel, it has thunderbolt 4 and faster pcie4 for ssd. M16 also has a brighter dv screen. I dont like the single solder ram. Not sure about long term affect of hot air on screen. Maybe asus can add a vapor chamber but not increase price too much in future. I will like to see this design on future g14 & g15

Love it. I edit videos, not a gamer. I was worried about the 3060 on the M16 vs the 3070 on the AMD but glad I got this one. Video editing is CPU intensive vs graphics for gaming so the 3060 is loafing most of the time. It has an on board intel also which does most of the work. Maybe some gamers would tax the graphics card but not video edit. The I9 is great for that and faster than the AMD. Much brighter screen on the M16 and it has a camera although only 720 pix but good enough. AMD version has smaller screen and no camera. But AMD does have the 3070. If you are buying this for gaming, consider both but for a work and video editing, this is the one. Some reviews mention fan heat blowing on the screen but I don't have any issues with that. When I'm rendering a video the processor runs at 100% and the fans kick on more but still not an issue. The ASUS software and bios is the best.

Great gaming laptop overall! Haven’t had any problems as far as performance. Biggest thing you need to invest in is a COOLING PAD! It’s a laptop with a 3060 i9 11th gen. It is going to get hot! I travel for a living so running games on here at hotels is no problem at all. Averaging about 100 fps on Warzone. Just gotta adjust those settings. Really good pricing for what it is.

Comparing it with the 17 inch core i7 Asus ROG strix N53SV that I replaced .. slower boot , touchpad defective from get go (still not fixed) , lots of flickering (switching to battery / opening a program) , periods of unexplained high GPU processing with sound of fans Wanted it to be better but it didn’t meet my expectations (for the price tag of $1850/-) .. but I am pretty happy with the form and feel , it is lighter and better performs good , display is crisp and sound is awesome

Great laptop, screen is incredible & this this can handle most AAA titles. The fan can get loud however if you use a headset this isn't the biggest issue. I wish the power brick were smaller but you can fix this with a USB C charger. The only gripe is the keyboard, while the feel is nice it misses keystrokes so I find myself having to correct words all the time. Not sure if it was my unit or if I'm just used to using a mechanical board with lots of key travel. Otherwise ASUS ROG makes some of the classiest looking gaming laptops right now.

Overall this exceeded expectations. I got this laptop for my wife to replace both her previous laptop and her current high-end desktop. The RTX 3060 does a great job of keeping up with modern games at the laptop's resolution. Handles all gaming, work, and design needs perfectly. It is compact for the amount of power it has and relatively light too. The screen is just amazing. I have no regrets on this purchase, even paying full price (something that I tend to avoid as much as possible). She is using this laptop in the house (docked to a mouse, keyboard, two monitors, etc.), in her work studio, on the go, and everywhere. A couple things to note: You can find better specs at this price point. They would come at the cost of a couple features and build quality. In this case, I find those to be very much worth it. The laptop does run loud when plugged in and gaming. Not annoyingly so, but loud enough to notice. The battery life sucks when gaming... but I have yet to find a good gaming laptop without that issue. I would highly recommend this laptop.

The screen is very good. I use the laptop for design, office and watching movies. I had read comments about the noise and heating of this laptop but I don't use it for gaming so I haven't had those issues, plus it has several options for configuration. I have to say this laptop is a beast there is nothing it can't do. The only thing I don't like is the battery life as it only lasts about 4 hours in mixed office use and watching videos on youtube.
