It's a great router on paper, unfortunately it has major stability issues with wifi.
When considering wired only it's absolutely fantastic, it has plenty of bells and whistles and does most anything you need. However, the wireless disconnects multiple times a day and I wasn't able to find a firmware version and settings that would solve the problem.
Thank you for sharing your experience with the ASUS RT-BE96U Router. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the Wi-Fi stability issues. While we are glad to hear that the router performs well on wired connections, we understand how important reliable wireless performance is.
To help troubleshoot, we recommend following the steps outlined in our FAQ guide linked below. If the issue continues, please contact our support team at https://www.asus.com/us/support/CallUs so we can assist you further or arrange repair service if necessary.

This is an amazing wifi router. It reaches our entire house when others couldn't.
That being said, it wasn't exactly plug and play and took a lot of combing through settings to figure out why it wasn't connecting. After it was set though, we haven't had any issues with it. It is a massive piece of machinery though, so it looks like a dead spider or upside down crab on our table. It's hilarious, but it works!

Overall, the quality of the product is good. However, I did have to send my first one back because one of the antennas was broken. That said, the packaging was great, and the product itself is much larger than I was expecting.
There are a few downsides, though. Every time I make changes to the settings, the router needs to reboot, which can be a bit frustrating. I’ve also had issues with my TVs showing "no internet" despite being connected, even after making sure VPNs are off. The Wi-Fi connection can feel slow at times, as if the network is congested. I find myself rebooting the router more than I think is necessary.
I do love that I'm able to configure my VPN directly into the router. However, speeds seem to suffer when the VPN is enabled, though I’m not entirely sure if that’s due to the router or the VPN provider. When I enable the VPN via my mobile phone’s app, the speeds seem much faster than when connected through the router.
Additionally, the interface used to configure the settings could be more user-friendly. It feels overwhelming and looks outdated, which makes adjustments a bit of a hassle. While the router generally works well, these issues can be a bit annoying.
We sincerely apologize for the issues you're experiencing with the ASUS RT-BE96U router and for the inconvenience this may have caused you. I like the router, I do. But I think I changed up too fast. Replaced a RT-AX86U pro with this. Wouldnt have if I dodnt work for best buy.I have a 1gig optic connection. This router is sooo not a rock when connecting to an ONT. I crimge everytime the router reboots for fear Ill have to factory reset it again to talk to the ont. That being said the download speed never matches with what even the speestest on the QOS speedtest in the asus gui. Which is good. The router is getting a 1060 Mbps speed and never going above 700 for any 1 client. No matter what wired, wifi, any device gets 500-700 on a 1 gig connection. Most of the time 40-600.Same held true with rhe AX86U. Even put asuswrt merlin on it to help improve download. Zilch. Rhe upside, the upload speeds increased a good ammount from the previous router. So if your upload speeds are your concern get it. But if ya have a retevily new routerI wouldnt seperate from your money. The ont issue set aside. I feel the router isnt taking advantage of even a 1gig xonnection. Wired orot.

I regret buying the ASUS RT-BE96U. This router has been nothing but problems from the start. The Wi-Fi signal constantly drops, making it unreliable even for basic use. On top of that, latency is all over the place, with frequent high-ping spikes and even timeouts when communicating with the router itself, which should never happen on a local network.
The advertised features are just as disappointing. Wi-Fi 7 did not work properly at all, and the MLO feature was essentially unusable. I had to disable it just to get a somewhat stable connection, which defeats the whole point of buying a next-gen router in the first place.
I also tried troubleshooting extensively, including testing close to the router, checking for interference, and isolating the connection, but the issues persisted. That points to poor hardware or firmware quality rather than anything on my end.
What makes this even worse is that I previously owned the Wi-Fi 6 version of this router, and that unit completely failed after about 3 years and became unusable. I gave this newer model a chance, hoping things had improved, but clearly they have not.
Overall, this router is unreliable, unfinished, and not worth the money. I would strongly recommend avoiding it and looking for a more stable alternative.

overall it was fairly easy to setup, if you have some experience with routers. The two wifi 6 channels work really well, the third wifi 7 channel seems to drop at times, but not sure if it is the devices I am using. (Samsung galaxy phone). Covers the whole house, including basement and upstairs with the router on the first floor.

I was a little reluctant to purchase this router because of price and wifi 7 not being finalized. I'm more than happy i purchased it though. Its brain dead easy to set up and works extremely well. My old wifi i would only get 200-300 mb/s on my Google Pixel 7pro but with the new asus router it jumped to 1.2 gb/s. My network has anywhere from 15-25 wifi devices running at a time without a single issue. The app gives so much control over what the router can and cannot do. Very much worth the price.

WiFi 7 hasn’t been finalized yet, but despite that this router incredibly fast, with our iPhone 15 Pro’s getting 1.4-.1.6 Gbps on the 6 GHz radio, while our iPads and MacBook Pro’s hitting 940 Mbps on the 5 GHz radio even while streaming 4K video and doing backups to a network drive. It also handles our 50+ devices with amazing ease. Definitely worth it.

Loving it, but i have to disable Wifi 7 for better compatibility with older devices. The range could cover 2500 sqft with few barriers and walls. !!!!Important to remember!!!!! is you cannot change security and authentication level to WPA. Transitional Security stay at WPA3/WPA2. No change

Definitely fast when it comes to my wifi 6/6E products. The issue is it drops out. It doesn't stay connected to the app. I can't log in on my desk top. I've done factory resets. Still doesn't work. Made sure all updates was done. Thinking of returning it and just waiting for the next model. Maybe all the bugs will be worked out.

If i could give this 0 stars i would. Kept dropping settings as if it were reset randomly and always in any power outage it did as well. Bought a battery backup which worked for a short time. But it just died the other day. I paid over $700 for this in 2023 and I know I had the extended warranty on that as I did on the other two I bought to set up a mesh system. Was great til it wasn’t. Now after starting a case with them long ago they’re saying my warranty expired, but odd,y enough the other two bought after that are still good til 2027. They never had any answer to the issue other than it was a known issue.
I used to love asus, mostly for motherboards but this issue and the other two routers alone aren’t enough to get a strong enough signal throughout our home. Epic fail. They’re saying it expired in sept and even knowing the documented case I opened they said sorry, not under warranty. So it cost me over $350 a year for the less than two years it worked. I’d say maybe a few months before the issues started.. I’ve been a tolerant customer til now, but id never buy this again. I wanted it to be great, because when it worked it was but my last Netgear Nighthawk was a workhorse til the day it died after 12 years.
We sincerely apologize for the delayed response, this is unfortunately due to a technical issue. We hope that your settings issue with your ASUS router has been resolved, however, if you are still experiencing issues we are more than happy to help. ASUS routers losing settings are often fixed by updating firmware, ensuring the power adapter is stable, or performing a factory reset via the reset button. Persistent issues might require a "hard factory reset" using the WPS button method to restore default settings. Please follow the steps found in the FAQs linked below. We stand behind our products and continuously strive to improve our products and processes to achieve customer service excellence. Upgraded due to my previous Nighthawk AX11000 deciding to quit on me. I have only 1 complaint- the packaging is overkill. So many plastic clings to peel from the router (each antenna has multiple). I think getting all the plastic off took longer than plugging in and completing setup entirely. Performance is top notch. Local data transfers fly now! The setups available for multiple guest sub networks are fantastic. Worth the money- buy it!

This router has what is needed, we have iPhone 15 Pro Max that gets faster internet speed in the same spot over our Asus RT-AX86U. The ability with VLANs both Wifi and wired is a plus, 2GB RAM and the quad core can handle the NordVPN connection for selected devices no problem. Only one VPN connection allowed at a time is a downer, but AdguardDNS account integration makes up for it. Port forwarding for online PC, Playstation, Xbox, and Switch was easy setup.
