I found this laptop as an open box item and purchased to replace my old laptop (aka paperweight) for when I travel. Holy smokes! this sucker is light, a joy to type on, AND runs WoW well.

Lightweight and fast. Decent battery life and good screen quality. This is a nice laptop. If I had one downside it would be color of keys and make the characters hard to see in direct light

Happy with this laptop so far... It is very fast. It boots quickly and launches apps fast. Not a huge hard drive capacity but that is an SSD compromise at this price.

This is a powerful and sturdy little machine, the one major drawback is there is no backlit keyboard and the keys are WHITE on a SILVER background!! very hard to see. unfortunate for an otherwise great laptop.

I didn't want to get another PC so a personal tech friend suggested this brand to me. I had never heard of it before but I really do like it. I have the 15" screen and it is nice and big and the colors are bright. I really like the raised keys on the keyboard as it feels more like a regular keyboard. I can tell what I am typing without looking. When the keys are all flat it is hard for me to tell what buttons/letters/numbers I am typing and always end up making mistakes. The raised keyboard keys are great.

My teenager seems to be getting along well with this device. The speed is adequate for schoolwork, light gaming, and browsing. The sound does come out of the bottom. I recommend using a laptop cushion that has a hard surface for the device to sit on, while operating the laptop in bed.

The machine is good for the price I paid for.
I heard that the machine comes with HDD/SSD installation kits but mine does not.
I try to upgrade a SSD drive into my machine but can't find the SSD installation kits and can't find it anywhere in the market either!

Huge design flaw regarding keyboard labels

It was hard to determine how many stars to put for this review. I settled on 2 for "fair" because of the huge design flaw mentioned in the title.
When looking at the keyboard, if you are not looking almost directly down at the keyboard, the labeling of the keys is terrible. And at certain angles you can't see the labeling at all so it looks like a keyboard of blank keys. All they had to do was use a very dark black for the key labels and this wouldn't be an issue at all.
I only had it long enough to do the set up and do a few things. It's great value at 549,95 when you consider the SSD storage, the i7 processor, 12G of RAM and full HD (1080) screen resolution. To get that kind of power you normally have to spend 200.00+ more. I was very impressed in that regard with how it performed.
However, I realized I could not live with staring at what looked like a bunch of blank keys. I would have to lean over the keyboard or tilt the computer in order to see the labeling.
So I just reluctantly returned it to Best Buy. A great laptop that's brought way down by a terrible keyboard design. All ASUS had to do was use very dark labeling and this would not be an issue and I would still have it here and be smiling.
If someone from ASUS reads this, it should have been obvious that this flaw was there. It will cost you many sales. And it wasn't rocket science to get it corrected.

Dear RobC,
We are pleased to know that this device has been performing and fulfilling the purpose you intended for it. We're sorry to hear that you're having an unfortunate experience with the touch pad. Please allow us to make your experience with ASUS a better. When did you start having this issue? We would recommend that you update the touch pad driver on this model. Please follow the steps below to perform this procedure. Uninstall the previous version of "Touchpad." Go to the control panel, then programs and features, look for "add and remove programs." Download Version V12.0.0.28 1. Download the zip file. 2. Open the file and run the setup file inside. Each zip file has a "setup.exe" application file inside. Please restart the unit after downloading and installing these drivers. If the previous drivers need to be uninstalled, go to the control panel, then programs and features, look for "add and remove programs." If the issue persists, we recommend that you back up your data and perform a system reset.

All in all it's a nice computer, but I was surprised to learn it had no ethernet port (I had to buy an adapter) as well as no cd/dvd drive. The other problem is the keyboard is very hard to see.
