This is very easy to use. I wish I could use it with my laptop instead of my phone, but I'm used to it now. If you are using veg tan leather or paper, there are instruction videos that tell you it's safe to used in an enclosed room but I wouldn't recommend it. This thing is nasty smelling even when it's in a fully ventilated room, like a sunroom. But the reason I didn't give it 5 stars has nothing to do with the smell or the phone app...I think the positioning could definitely be improved. Everything is very user friendly EXCEPT positioning your item and getting a true fit on the engraving. That doesn't matter if you are making cloth patches, but it's a big deal when you are making a leather key chain. Even if you have it "frame" the print area, the print is so much smaller than the frame that you just never know when it's going to exceed the space or end up being super small. It's irritating. The other thing that people should know is that it has a long list of things you can just select and then hit print..."leather", "paper", "material". Well, leather isn't just leather, Paper isn't just paper...you are going to have to play with settings because what looks great on one leather will either not show up or over burn on another leather. Tooling leather (not safe to smell when using laser), is WAY different than veg tan for masks (also not safe to smell but you will be told it is). Overall, it's great for small projects and user friendly for the beginner but if your expectation is "plug and play" with amazing results, you might end up frustrated. This requires some practice and some skill building and, especially with regard to positioning, some luck. But I would strongly advise you DON'T let your kid use this in their bedroom or in your craft room without deliberate ventilation, a near by fire extinguisher and training, despite the safety features. Those are great but they don't substitute for good practices. Overall, when I get my full size laser printer/cutter, I will look for this brand. I'm pleased with it and feel like it's the best bang for my buck. Nothing is perfect.
