This is a searing drama about a dysfunctional family reuniting after the death of the patriarch, under suspicious circumstances. The gradual unfolding of wounds - long past, and some fresh - is heart rending. If you can watch this, and not be grateful your own family, then you have my deepest sympathy. The discomfort of seeing all this pain unfold is offset by the stunning performance of Meryl Streep as the matriarch who still dominates lives, directly and indirectly, for better or for worse. Adding to the realness is the "anti-glam" makeup on the actresses, all of whom also play their parts well. I have to admit that the first time through, this was difficult to watch. Knowing the full story made the second time a chance to admire great artistry. But that's the advantage of owning a dvd, *when* the film is truly great.

There are only a few very good movies produced each year. This is one of them. A drama about complex family lives and relationships that are not uncommon or far from real-life of many Americans. Worth watching, unless you are completely into action movies.

This movie was riveting and surprising. The acting was top-notch from all involved in particular Meryl Streep and Chris Cooper. If you're family isnt like this I know you know a family that is.

Meryl Streep delivers an outstanding performance as the matriarch, & Julia Roberts' performance is equally outstanding as the levelheaded daughter & resilient wife. One movie to own.

The acting is impeccable and the story is a stunning and disturbing combination of laughter through tears. If you can't see your own family in the story, you will at least recognize someone you know! You will laugh and at times, you will be shocked at the dysfunction of this recognizable family. I saw the play in Boston. The stage version was more adaptable to the humor. But still an excellent film!

Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts are great, as usual, great supporting cast too. Huge fan of Benedict Cumberbatch!! True to form movie.

The movie was good.It was dark and it had some funny scenes.The Oscar buzz and nominations was well deserved.

I liked this movie a lot-don't know why it got some bad reviews. I thought the acting was well done.

More of a chick flick sort of movie. Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts are excellent in this movie.

Slow at times but overall a good movie. It shines an odd light on the family of Oklahoma people.

As usual, Meryl Steep hits it out of the park with her acting and the rest of the cast hold there own also. As disfunctional as this family is it hits home and can be realted to many families out there. Mine for sure Ha Ha... Enjoy the Roller Coaster Ride......

If you thought your family had drama and was full of crazy people, then WAIT until you see this family because you will NEVER think your family is crazy again. Feud's, secrets and LOTS of cursing are ALL I will say but you will NOT be disappointed.

Has both Meryl Strep and Julia Roberts in it so it has to be good.

The movie had it's serious moments but it also made you laugh.

Entertaining movie. Anything that has Julia Roberts is fun.
