Warning: This is the first "book" in a set of 3. If you like it just as much as most you'll want to buy the rest of all episodes. In this first of 3 "books" you will see some of the main characters in this TV series but not all. Not seeing all of the main characters is only one of the many ways the series draws you into watching them all. The story is simple, but the background is extensive enough to support it well. Any holes or inconsistencies found in this series can easily explained with of your own wisdom, imagination, or skillful discounting. This show is intended for a younger (12-ish) audience but plays mature enough for kids of all ages. This is one parents won't pain to watch with their children. Those that don't know this series' popularity merely needs to search the internet using the series title to see how extensive the audience is and how much they adore this series. I don't need to mention any story details as all of this can be found using the usual sources (e.g. wiki). This first "book" is mostly about introducing the story and the environment in which the story is placed. It is drawn very well. The characters are very well voice acted. The music does a good job of supporting the environment of the story and conveys the feeling of the unfolding events extremely well. Although the series centers itself around fighting there is no gore and the protagonist always avoids violence throughout the story. Don't think twice about getting this, the story is good and very re-playable.

Avatar is a stark contrast to any other cartoon Nickelodeon has undertaken. While most US cartoons in general tend to focus on laughs and zero storyline, Avatar takes inspiration from Anime story telling and melds it with US style story telling creating a thoughtful storyline that rarely leaves the audience on cliffhangers like its Japanese cousins. The show takes itself more seriously and isn't afraid to include drama and romance along side of action and comedy. A great example that animation isn't just Mickey Mouse or Sponge Bob but another medium of story telling that more often then not, can only be told through animation. A great series that kids will love for the action and jokes; and adults can enjoy for fairly deep character growth, storyline, and overall quality.

I don't throw around this praise lightly - but this is one of the best animated shows every created. It blends humor, action, and drama together in this near-perfect blend that will appeal to virtually any age group. It's sad how there aren't many animated shows out there with the quality that you see here (unfortunate as well that the live action movie completely butchered it). If you're a fan of the show, it's a no-brainer to buy this. If you're not a fan, give a few episodes a try and see if you're hooked (as I was).

This is one of the best animated shows I have ever seen. Everything about Avatar is great. The animation, the characters, and the storyline keep you entertained. There is a great balance between action and comedy so when you're not watching an intense fight seen, you're laughing. The show even teaches you valuable lessons in a non-preachy way. The only problem is that you might get hooked on the show and you won't be able to stop watching. In the end, I would recommend this show to anyone, not just young children.

I bought this DVD set after having it recommended by a family member and was pleasantly surprised! It is not your typical animated cartoon with flat characters and a flopped plot. It brings in a good storyline and carries it through the whole set. The creators made it easy to relate to the characters and get pulled into the story. I found myself more than enthralled after watching just the first disc! By the time I was finished I was hunting for the next installment in the series!

This is an awesome show. All the characters are well thought out and have very fun personalities. The DVDs make it a great experience because of the improved sound quality. Dispite what all the haters say I do think the movie "The Last Airbender" measures up to this just fine. Noah Ringer made the perfect Aang. Can't wait for the sequel!

After I saw the move Avatar I happened to see Avatar Last Airbender on TV. I thought it would be like the movie but it is an animated version of the move Last Airbender. I didn't think I would like an animated story but after watching one show I was hooked. The stories are good but I really enjoy the kung fu in the animated version. I liked it so well I bought all three Avatar Books.

This is an excellent series. Not an excellent animated series or an excellent children's series - just an excellent series PERIOD. It's SO much fun, for both adults and kids! I highly recommend it.

Love watching this series with my kids, we have made it family movie night. It is so funny, we all laugh at all the faces the characters make. Great family fun, plus not to mention the great story line...very interesting. I highly suggest it.

This is such a great series. The characters grow so much from the beginning to the end that you just have to keep watching. It's so unique too! It's geared toward 12-14 year olds, but I know younger kids and adults who are in love with it! It has something for everyone and I'm certain you'll want to keep watching and buying the rest of the seasons!

Great season that will get you addicted to the Avatar storyline. It may have started slow, but it sure picks up in the end. All episodes are great and funny that can entertain any one of any age. I don't like how the discs are suppose to set in the package. Makes it kinda easy to break the discs if excessive force is used to get it out.

I have been watching Nickelodeon for a very long time and I have seen shows come and go. Even though Avatar: The Last Airbender is a fairly new show, it is one of Nick's best show they have ever put on their network. It has a great plot, comic relief and great animation. This is a must see you any anime, cartoon, or martial arts fan.
