Better than DVD and streaming, but not by much

I got about exactly what I expected, but I wasn't expecting much.
A blu ray release of about the same quality as streaming sites. All episodes are up-res'd and smoothed out to 1080p, moreso and higher quality than streamed episodes off of Amazon or Nick.com, and are still in their original letterbox aspect ratio (aka not widescreen). Despite that it does look better, the difference is not night and day. In fact, it can sometimes look slightly worse. It looks like they upscaled it to 1080p and just used a default smoothing filter to rid the picture of low res aliasing without any touch-ups in some scenes. I hesitate to say worse though, as that immediately sounds bad and that isn't necessarily the case, it just might take a little bit to get used to. Probably the oddest thing about this set is it comes with a whopping 9 blu for all 4 books, 3 for each book. The special features are spread throughout all 9 discs.
Despite it's drawbacks, it's still the highest quality version of the show you can watch.
If you have the DVD set, this isn't worth it and save your money. And unless you aren't a big fan or avid about having physical releases, perhaps wait for a sale to around $35 or cheaper.

The best release

I was initially worried that the image would be cropped to 16:9, however, after watching the first episode my fear was gone. This is the best release and maintains the original 4:3 aspect ratio.

I love this show and I was really exited when Nickelodeon release the Blu ray version, although the image and sound quality are not the best it's a great addition to any fan of the show, definitely worth having it.

Missing Cover Art?

Not really a review, more of a question. I was excited to get my order, but disappointed to see the cover art was not the same as displayed on the website. I'm guessing the avatar mode cover art is from the slip cover. Is my assumption correct? If so, I really want the slip cover. What's with the incomplete package BestBuy?

No avatar extras

The show was good quality it’s the best I’ve been able to find it at. But I doesn’t really feel “blu ray”
And it’s still square. And I understand that it would be very hard to make it widescreen with out making it all look weird. But what I really wanna know is how you can advertise this as “the complete series” but not have any of the avatar extras. I can’t explain how much of a let down that was. Also a small complaint, this isn’t about the show, more “Blu-ray” in general. Why..... Why in the world do I need 9 disks to watch 1 show. These are not floppy disks I shouldn’t need a handful. I have the entire series of avatar on my computer in 720p and it’s only 18gb that mean this box set can’t be more then 50gb and blu-ray disks have 25gb storage per disk. So why isn’t this show on 2 disks? Or maybe 3 disks one per season. That makes sense. 9 disks... now that’s just stupid.

I feel scammed!

I am one of the biggest fans of the Avatar: The Last Airbender series. I honestly believe that it is one of the best animated shows of all time. That being said, it saddens me that I have spent even more money on this "blu ray" set when all it really is is a DVD upconvert.
The images are grainly, blurry, and the audio is muddled. Not at all what I was expecting from a blu ray. I also own the Dragonball Z collection on blu ray. Dragonball Z was given proper treatment. Yes the images were zoomed in to create a wide screen view, but the images were restored and stunning. This "blu ray" set has none of that. I honestly believe that my DVD set is just as good.
If you don't currently own the set, do yourself a favor and save some money by buying the DVDs!

Be sure to check all of your discs to make sure they work. I got to the third disc to find that it's corrupted. Didn't get to it until after the return window and now I'm stuck with a damaged product.

Great Show. Bad Transfer

Avatar is an incredible series that has a huge following, which is why this highly anticipated release is such a disappointment. As a late fan of the series, I held off on getting the dvds because I was hoping for a blu ray release. The quality of this transfer is almost unrecognizable from the dvd version. If you already own the dvds, or can find them cheaper than this, i suggest you go that route. There is no benefit to getting this disappointing release.

Only an Upconvert

While this might be a good price for the whole collection of a fantastic show in you do not already own it, do not expect the visual fidelity associated with Blu-Ray movies.
I was very excited to have one of my favorite series release on Blu-Ray with the expectation that it would be a crisp, widescreen, HD version. Unfortunately, it is only a 4:3 upconvert with only a slight improvement in quality over the DVD release.
While this is not too suprising, it is especially disappointing considering the packaging and menu presentation. The case naturally lists the format as "1080p High Definition" and the discs themselves are labeled "Widescreen". Sadly, it is really only the Disc Menus that are HD (well, and the anti-piracy warnings...). It is a large letdown to see the crisp, HD menu, with widescreen icons in the episode selection, followed by the lackluster upconvert. (And the special features only seem to be in SD.)
For now, my hopes for a beautiful high definition release of Avatar, The Last Airbender have fallen below those for an HD release of the Theatrical cut of Star Wars.

Big Disappointment

When I heard that this amazing show was getting a Blu-Ray release I was ecstatic. However once I sat down to watch it I was extremely disappointed. The audio is no different then the DVDs they have released in the past, and at 2.0 you don't get any surround sound. The next worse thing is that it isn't even fullscreen. Even though the resolution is a little better you can't really tell because the viewing window is so small. They basically took the old DVD release and wrapped it in a Blu-Ray package. I can't stress enough that this is a waste of money if you own the DVDs. This is a great show, but this "Blu-Ray" release does it no justice. Do not buy.

I absolutely love this show. 100% the best show. Amazing character development, plot and animation. BUT, I made the fatal mistake of DRIVING ALL THE WAY TO BEST BUY AND ALMOST PURCHASING THIS AND I FIND OUT ITS BLUERAY SO I GO BACK AND THEY DONT HAVE IT IN DVD. MY BAD FOR NOT READING THE TOP BUT THEY DONT EVEN HAVE THE DVD WITHIN 250 MILES OF ME.

Ive wanted this show to come to blu-ray for a long time, I was very hyped to see it finally come to fullscreen. This was a huge let down, it wasnt any different than the dvds. If you own the dvds there is no difference. If you dont own the dvds they are cheaper and the exact same quality. What a let down.
