    Great commuter/joyrider for urban living!

I'm an employee of Best Buy and have had the opportunity to use the Bird scooter for more than 3 weeks. I'm going to break this review down into a few sections focusing on the various aspects that make up the scooter. Before I begin, however, I want to note that I'm within the max weight capacity, I have a smart device which is required to use the bird because of the app and that I live in a big city. Overall, I found this to be a very effective means of commuting transportation and a lot of fun to use recreation-ally. APP Before getting this, I'd ridden the Bird via their app service on a vacation and was pleasantly impressed that their standalone --sell able- unit also uses the same app. It shows you the gps coordinates of your scooter, alerts you if your scooter is being moved while locked, allows you to easily unlock your bird with the app scanner, and shows you the battery capacity to help you plan your ride distance. SCOOTER FEATURES Riding at night can be dangerous but this unit comes with both a headlight that's always lit up and tailight that blinks repeatedly illuminating brighter when the break is depressed, both features worked well under the city light and made me feel safer while riding. RIDING THE BIRD The scooter is easy to start up, you simply kick with your foot and hit the the thumb throttle. It accelerates pretty quickly getting to top speed of 18mph in approximately 4 seconds. It climbs hills nicely but note, I don't have particularly steep hills where I was riding it. I researched the max hill slope and couldn't find Bird calling this out, however, I've seen similar scooters call out a max slope grade of 20% and am confident this could climb that. In summary, what I liked most about this was that I could ride it 25 miles on a full charge, lock it at my destination via the app knowing that it was safe and that I could see its location and if it was being tampered with on the app at all times. It was dependable, fun to ride whether to get groceries, get to work, or joyride around the lakes and it fully recharged in less than 7 hours. The only critique I found is that it's pretty heavy (40 lbs) and not foldable, therefore if you need to climb stairs to store it, it could be inconvenient. I highly recommend for those in search of a e-vehicle that will be dependable for your commute, go long distances without recharging and give you the piece of mind that its safe wherever you decide to park and store it.

So I'm new to "e-scooters-, I've ridden a million kick scooters as a kid, but nothing like this.. I'm 35 and I weigh about 210-220 and this scooter is fast and powerful enough to scoot me around with a backpack full of groceries, or my tools, and I had no issues with the ride, or battery life that made me upset. I was easily able to reach 12-15mph and hills didn't really bother it (I live in Eugene so there aren't really hills.) and the battery was still at 56% charge after I rode 10 miles while just "flooring" it so the battery life is pretty close to advertised and I weigh towards the stated maximum weight. Besides the obvious side effects of no suspension and an occasional bumpy road. aside from that, these things are so cool I ended up buying the Bird es4-800 as well.. these things are ADDICTIVE.. I'm in love with how quiet, efficient, quick to charge (3 hours from 0% to 100%!) and its SO fun! If you are really interested in a new way to get around town for those close to home errands, or just to go unwind? this is perfect.. I know its a bit pricey, but its worth it for the quality of the build, and the level of service Bird provides blew my mind. I'm not easy on companies either.. all I can say is you definitely want this, so just do it.. go ahead.. you will not regret it.. The only other issue besides the no suspension, is I prefer there to not be an app controlling things? But, that is just MY preference. objectively, the app works fine.

I ordered this scooter in the hopes of using it as my daily commute vehicle. I received the item quicker than anticipated and everything on Best Buy’s end was perfect. Now the scooter, it never worked. I understand there is bound to be a dud every now and then. The most worrisome part; the customer service. After receiving the scooter and fully charging it. The app wouldn’t let me pair my scooter. Something about invalid code. I immediately followed the instructions they had to email customer support the serial number to activate the scooter. Then ensued a 11 day waiting period for a RESPONSE after multiple attempts to contact them. By the time I had even received a response on the 11th day I had already returned the item to Bestbuy as defective. The lack of support for a scooter that REQUIRES A APP AND INTERNET CONNECTION at all times. This thing will be a paper weight once the stop supporting that app. In the middle of your trip if your scooter doesn’t want to pair with the app you will not be able to contact anyone. They will respond weeks later. You will have to walk this scooter home when you inevitability get stuck. You will get stuck. Get a Segway Ninebot Max or Unagi. Better range, better power, not tethered to an app every time you want to use, actually have customer service when you have an issue.

Awesome scooter! Gets up to good speed, a very smooth ride and very sturdy. Battery seems to last a decent amount.. I wouldn't say 25 miles but then again I'm usually going up and down hills which I'm sure puts more strain on the battery. Only issues I've had are with waking it up or unlocking/locking it with the app. A lot of times I will have to force close the app a couple times before it will work. Other than that it has been great

The scooter has all the specs you want in an electric scooter, range, battery life, speed. However, it must be said the scooter itself has MULTIPLE problems syncing appropriately with the app, and it gets eventually resolved but after 30 wasted minutes. This has happened 3 times already and I only have 46 miles on this scooter. The handle also came loose after only 20 or so miles. Overall, this product is one of the better ones (before it breaks). If I had to purchase this again, I would say it's not worth the $1000 spent.

I started my new job in Midtown, downtown Sacramento and there’s nowhere to park except parking garages which is still ruffly 2 miles away from my location. This cute little scooter fits in the back of my trunk and then I can use it to get to where I need to go. My only concern is making sure the scooter is customized to you because I’ve already had people trying to scan it and use it for a rental, my model is pink and coated and stickers lol

Great scooter fast and reliable, only concern it’s theft ... they should have added a hook to chain and a kill switch .. that you can turn off even if you deactivate bike, maybe on further versions they add extra features to render it useless if stolen ...

REALLY inconvenient that the bird app is required for use of scooter. You should just be able to turn it on/off. The app is always crashing, having bluetooth problems, and trouble connecting to/waking the scooter. Also if you don’t have phone signal you can’t connect to scooter. Besides that, it rides GREAT, and is really fast! I’d definitely recommend besides the connectivity issues.

Hello and thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear your issues with the app, however it is a necessity for the unit so that you have the ability with locking through the app allows you you to lock the wheels when not in use and also keep an eye on it's GPS location when not in use. The app will give a connection error every now and then, but a quick app restart usually fixes it. We hope you continue to enjoy your Bird One!

I've always wanted to ride one of these and now that Bird is selling them I can have my own! When I received the scooter it was already 99% assembled with the exception of 4 screws. After super quick assembly and some charging with the included charger it was ready to go. The charger has a led on it to let you know when its at 100%. The scooter is completely app controlled. There are no buttons or displays on it. Just two led status lights. All info and control is done via the Bird app. I had no issues pairing the scooter to the app and was ready to go in no time. The app shows all your scooter stats, miles ridden, battery percentage, location, and so on. You can also turn the headlights on/off, sleep/wake, lock/unlock, and pair/unpair. Its got a nice little tutorial a well. What really makes this escooter different from the rest is that it has GPS and bluetooth built in for use with the app. If you lock it and someone tries to move it the alarm sounds, lights flash, and it sends a notification to your phone to let you know it detected motion. That should hopefully deter someone from stealing it but to take it even a step further the app allows you to track its location as well. It pinpoints down to the address and actual location of the building its in so it works very well even when its indoors. You can lock it and put it to sleep if your not going to use it for a extended period of time but there is no actual off. Its either unlocked or locked, which both use battery or sleeping which uses less battery. I would like to be able to actually turn it completely off to extend the battery life but I guess that would defeat the built in security? As for the build quality I was very impressed. This is a VERY solid scooter and overall just looks pleasing. Note that this is the same model that they are using for their rental fleet so I feel confident that this thing will last. Seems like Bird took a lot of what worked well on other escooters over the years and put a lot of that into this model. Note that it does not fold down so its not as portable as some others but because of this I feel like its sturdier when riding which I do appreciate. The wheels are solid verses inflated like some escooters so you don't have to worry about getting a flat which I prefer. Riding this thing is a absolute blast! Seriously its fun. I've taken this thing on smooth flats, rough roads, up hill, down hill, and I can tell you it works very well. Its zippy and gets to max speed very quickly. It did slow down quit a bit when I took it up steep hills but I'm close to the weight limit so that's expected. I'm getting close to 20 miles per charge with regular use depending on how many hills I hit. The less you weigh and the less hills you take will get you closer to that 25 miles per charge range. Its also a lot better for the environment than driving a gas powered car. You could easily use this for your daily commute to work assuming your within range. I'll be using this thing to run errands around town and for some joyriding out with the family. Below are some pros and cons based on my personal usage. Pros: App is very easy to use and works well Solid build Faster than most escooters Quick acceleration Long lasting battery with great range Tires will never go flat Rides smooth Brakes well Built in security system with GPS Handlebars are good height Has headlight and taillight 9 inch tires Super fun to ride!!! Cons: Can only control via the app Can't completely turn off Does not fold down

This scooter is built like a tank! I't super solid. I'm 225lbs and it moves out smooth and quickly. I't basically silent, but I can faintly hear the rear brake drum as the pads wear in. I'm sure that sound will go away once everything is nice and broken in. The app for my phone was easy to download, and it has a nice look and fairly simple interface. The app is a little bit slow, and it seems to get hung up from time to time, and sometimes the slide to ride bar vanishes and I have to fiddle with the phone and app on and off to get the app to work correctly, but for the most part it works pretty decent. The scooter is nice and quick, and it's easy to ride. The steering is a little bit limited so a larger turning circle is needed, but nothing to bad, and it's easy enough to jump off and just flip it around. It's heavier than I expected, and there are no dedicated lifting points which I feel is a pretty big omission in the design, as I have to pick it up to go up the stairs into my house. It's also a bit to low to rid over a curb so it needs to be picked up over those as well. I pick mine up with the steering neck and by the rear fender, but the fender feels a bit flexy and isn't a really strong point to be lifting it from. It would have also been nice if the steering neck folded down so I could carry it inside my car or Jeep. I carry it just fine in my pickup truck, but it would be nice if I could carry it in something smaller. I like the battery percentage status in the app as that's very handy. I love the handle bar grips, they are super comfortable. Overall it's just a super fun scooter that I look forward to riding whenever I can.

I initially had my hesitations with the Bird One thinking that Bird was possibly just dumbing down their rentable scooter, but I was definitely wrong. Bird delivers an extremely high quality product here that I can`t recommend enough. Firstly, the build quality is exceptional as the material is extremely lightweight, but also sturdy at the same time that provides a larger battery for increased range. This is the first instance that separates the Bird One from its competitors as others seem much more flimsy and cheap. There are also no external wires at all because it is all one compact product that definitely has been thought out. The actual usability is exceptional as well in that this product is exactly as advertised. The speed is great as it definitely does not give you that slow feeling and by building on the bird app it only makes it easier by incorporating the gps and locking aspects. The added light is also extremely beneficial for riding at night as it prevents you from having to use the flashlight on your phone. Overall, for the amount of tech features the Bird One provides along with the build quality and larger battery I can`t recommend this product enough!

    Fun and Practical

This scooter is really awesome. It is practical, sturdy, technologically advanced, well designed and lots of fun. For starters, the look and feel of this scooter is all commercial grade. It is heavy duty and larger than any child's scooter. It is technologically advanced but there are not any buttons or gadgets on the scooter to control. Everything is controlled through the app except for the throttle, brake and a bell. To illustrate, here is how it works: You approach the scooter and turn on your app. If you forgot where you left it then you can look at the GPS location on the app to find it. If the scooter is not turned on from the app then it is difficult to move and sets off an alarm when moved. Note that you have to pair your app to the scooter the first time you use it. Once you turn it on with the app the headlight comes on and the taillight flashes. Once you put the scoooter in motion the throttle starts working and you are off to the races. The app tracks the number of miles ridden and the battery level (as a percent). When you are done riding, plug it in and flip the app to lock it back down so no one else can use it. Note that it does take several hours to fully charge when the battery is depleted. Something like 10% every 60-90 minutes. Overall, I was impressed with the quality of the battery and motor. It isn't fast like a Tesla. It feels more like driving an electric golf cart. But it has no problem getting into the teens for speed. For my 95 pound son it also had no problem going up most hills. For me, about 175, it was still powerful enough to go up most hills but not at a very fast pace. To test out the range, my son and I went on a 13 mile ride. The range on the box says it can go up to 25 miles. I would agree that 25 miles would be possible but for a normal size rider I'm guessing the realistic range is more like 20 miles. After 13 miles for my 95 pound son, the battery was about 60% drained. That is still pretty impressive. We averaged 12 mph and the bike path we rode on was mostly flat. Besides being practical, this scooter is a lot of fun! Our family sits outside our house each night and takes turns riding it around the neighborhood. It is teaching my kids some good driving skills and it is hard for them not to smile while riding. Overall, there is a lot to love about this scooter and not much to complain about. I would highly recommend it!

I live in a rural area, so my usage of the bird one scooter may be different than how you would use yours, but it is a very versatile little ride. First of all a little about the Bird One. It is a grownup size scooter with a very long lasting battery and weighs around 40 pounds. According to Bird, this scooter can go 18 miles per hour for nearly 25 miles. Unfortunately the weather hasn't allowed me to test out the range of the battery, but just playing around the house and surrounding area, I think they aren't exaggerating. I have not ran the battery below 90 percent more than once. The scooter has an app that you must use to connect with your device. Once you scan the QR code, then the scooter is connected to your phone and account. I had some questions about the app and sent a request to Bird through the app. They responded very quickly and were very helpful in answering my questions. They were also able to see the status of by Bird One scooter and even pushed a software update to my ride. I know people will use these scooters in lots of different ways. My family likes to camp and I expect this will be extremely useful moving between the camper and the bath house or the pool or just to wander around the campground. I am really looking forward to using it this summer! But, back to the review. The Bird app allows you to lock the scooter, which then activates a tamper alarm with sound, flashing lights, and makes the scooter much harder to push. You can put it to sleep to conserve battery, you can also turn the front light on and off with the app. The one thing you can't do is turn it off completely and I assume that is so the security system and GPS will always be active. (although, I think sleep mode my deactivate some features). This thing is really great if you live in an area where you can get out and ride, or like to go places where you can use it to get around and enjoy and explore like we do. I plan on putting a lot of miles on my scooter this summer, I hope you can get yours and get outside as well.
