Incredible game but easily the hardest one I've ever played. You will die endlessly and get frustrated beyond belief, but Gameplay, graphics, and story are great

As any game released by From Software, be prepared to be challenged. No hands will be held here but you will receive a great sense of accomplishment from each new enemy you slay. Gameplay and controls are rock-solid. The story is a dark fantasy set in the old Victorian days and moves forward like a slow-building suspense novel. All in all, enjoyable and rewarding, the further you advance in the game. If you've never given games like Dark Souls a shot, this may be the best entry into that genre.

If you are new to the Souls games, you may find the going rough at first. The game is very obscure when it comes to explaining its mechanics and systems. A tutorial barely exists so reading the manual or a FAQ is almost mandatory. Expect to die a lot as you slowly figure out the ins and outs. Once you clear the first area and are able to beat the first couple of bosses, things will get significantly easier and it is incredibly satisfying to make progress in the game. Just don't expect to be able to button mash your way to victory. This is a game that rewards patience, critical thinking and exploration.

What a modern 3D Castlevania wishes it could be

I played a bit of Demon's Souls and hated it. I avoided all of the Dark Souls games based on that initial experience. I am so glad I gave Bloodborne a chance - the game is utterly fantastic and very different than its predecessors. This is the spiritual evolution of the 2D Castlevania games. The difficulty initially can be a bit punishing but never is it unfair. Along with Uncharted 4, this game arguably the very best of what Playstation 4 has to offer. Bravo.

This game is what I have been looking for in a videogame for a long time. I wanted a challenge that takes me back to the 80;s when games weren't meant to be easy and it is set in a beautiful fantasy world. A dark fantasy world that is filled with all kinds of monsters. Each monster has a unique style of attacking so you have to take your time to learn how to best defeat them. I like that you can't just go about mindlessly smashing the buttons and win every encounter.

Successor to Dark Souls - but infinitely better

Bloodborne is the spiritual successor to the Dark Souls series but it is far superior both in story telling and user friendliness; that's not to say that the game is EASY, but whereas the Dark Souls series tends to derive it's difficulty level from purposefully unintuitive controls and menus, Bloodborne is difficult, but FAIR. Pick this gem up (and the DLC - some of the best expansions I've ever played through,) you won't regret it.

bloodborne is an excellent game! While difficult at first, once you start leveling up your attribute points and learn the fighting mechanics, it becomes extremely fun with a good challenge. There's nothing like the feeling you get after finally beating a boss! The game graphically is beautiful and I highly recommend it, but only if you're patient enough to spend some time to learn how to play it. It's one of the more rewarding type games I've experienced. Well done Fromsoftware!

Smash your controller, yell out profanity, walk away and take a break, learn how to die over and over again because that's exactly what will happen when you embark on this epic journey through your worst nightmares. This game is literally original Nintendo games hard and if you don't like games holding your hand throughout then this is your cup of tea! I just feel sorry that the Xbox players won't get a chance at this because they want to play on an inferior system. BUY THIS!

Bloodborne is a semi open world RPG that resembles games like Demon Souls, Dark Souls ect. And If you've ever played any of these titles you know that one thing that stands out is the difficulty. So in other words, if you're not up for a challenging and sometimes even frustrating experience, don't buy it! However if you like challenging RPGs not to mention GREAT graphics and leveling system this game will be very rewarding for the price!

    Action Masterpiece

Bloodborne is a new game spawned from the team and minds that brought you Dark Souls and Demon's Souls, and it absolutely lives up to the lofty expectations set by those titles. Combat is still very challenging, but rewards more aggressive and active playstyles so you don't have to spend half the battle hidden behind a shield. In addition, each weapon has two modes that you can switch between smoothly in mid-combo, improving the flow of each battle. The art is hauntingly, disturbingly gorgeous. Lovecraft meets a filthy plague-ridden Victorian setting, with all sorts of awful monsters ready to crawl into your nightmares. The graphics are pretty good, though they do have a few noticeable flaws. If you've got a keen eye for aliasing (jagged edges), you'll notice a lot here. And if you don't like chromatic aberration (an effect that blurs colors in an old-tv set kind of way), you're out of luck. The frame-rate isn't very smooth either. This is the type of game that would be best enjoyed at a sold 60fps, but unfortunately, that's not an option. Still, that does little to dampen the overall experience of the game. Rock solid controls, encounters, level design, bosses, nooks and crannies, monsters and mysteries. A sterling exercise in rewarding perseverance.

Brilliantly difficult yet rewarding action RPG

Bloodborne is a game that has an old school NES difficulty about it, yet any mistake is not due to the game being cheap but because the player has made a mistake. This game is a highly strategic action RPG that has amazing action sequences that only get better as the player goes further into the game. The visuals are certainly some of the best available on the PS4. The developer clearly uses the strengths of the hardware to create a haunting , dark, yet beautiful journey. The character models are very realistic and the demons and bosses vary yet similar to Dark Souls , yet still remain jaw dropping. The backgrounds and detail in the environments are unrivaled, while keeping a steady frame rate. The battle system is fast and furious and plays more like a third person action game with RPG elements. In fact , this may be one of the fastest Action RPG games that is available for the PS4. Learning how to fight enemies and seeing their patterns is half the fun. Upgrading and gaining strength are the other half of the fun. Once the player has upgraded and becomes a killing machine, the player comes across a new area with more deadly foes and one has to figure out how to traverse the area, find secrets, all the while trying to stay alive. While not being a survival horror game , it does have the ability to scare the player. Some enemies creep around areas and jump out to pounce on the player. Its super rewarding when the player figures out how to take out a boss or how to eliminate difficult foes with ease. This game teaches the player to constantly use different tactics on enemies while learning new ones. No game in years has had my hands full of sweat during a battle like this one does. I would throw the controller only to pick it back up so I could conquer the boss. By the way most Boss battles are not only challenging but a sheer joy to play and demand that you learn the hit box and pattern. Once the boss has took a lot of damage , the boss will change into another more powerful form of itself and you then would have to beat the boss while seeing a new more dangerous pattern. Some enemies in the game also do this as well. No PS4 owner who is up to the challenge should be without this game. This is hands down the best PS4 action RPG thus far. With great graphics and addictive gameplay, this game will have you coming back time and time again.

If you liked Dark Souls there is a good chance you will like Bloodborne. It has a somewhat similair combat system to Dark Souls, but with a faster pace and new mechanics. All of this is included in the $20 price. After playing this Bloodborne has overtaken Dark Souls as my favorite game. Definately worth more than the price.

This is the video game I never knew I wanted. The game alone justified my $400 PS4 purchase. The most fun I've had playing a game in close to a decade. Not since having played Resident Evil 4 for the first thing have I enjoyed a game as unsettling and richly fulfilling. The atmosphere, the lore, the setting, the visuals, the sound, the gameplay. Everything is as close to perfect as one can hope to get. Flat out one of the best experiences I've had period.

The graphics and sound in Bloodborne are amazing. The little details in the game make it really standout from a lot of recent games I've played. If you have a home theater system this game is definitely a game I recommend to showcase your system. That being said this game is ridiculously hard! If you're a long time gamer I'd say this game is Nintendo hard (Ghosts and Goblins, Contra, ect). Casual gamers won't like this game and will find it extremely frustrating because it's so hard. If you want a real challenge and a beautiful game checkout Bloodborne.

This is, by far, my favorite PS4 game that I have played and definitely gets your heart pounding! It's pretty difficult at first, but stick with it until you adjust to the game play and start leveling up. Some of the bosses are incredibly challenging and frustrating, but it's so satisfying once you succeed. I've played through NG and NG+ as well as the Old Hunters DLC and have no intentions on stopping any time soon.

Chances are if you are considering this title you are a Dark Souls fan. I've played the previous games and this is very similar, though it does have its differences. Combat is much faster and the is no shield to be had. Though I'm still early on, the health potion system seems far more forgiving, making it somewhat more newbie friendly. However the greatest punishment for death is excessive load times (almost a full minute). Longtime fans may find this to be a watered down Dark Souls but for most there is plenty of challenge to be found.

This is a game that isn't for everyone and it doesn't try to be one. It's the spiritual successor to some pretty "hardcore" action RPGs with deep systems and punishing combat that can really turn off newcomers from the start if they don't know what to expect. That being said, if you're up to the challenge and willing to put in the time you will be rewarded with some of the best level design, atmosphere and risk/reward combat in the series.

As a huge Demon Souls fan, and a somewhat Dark Souls fan, I rate this game 4/5 stars because the game is fairly easy. The difficulty of the game is nothing compared to Demon Souls. The positive side is that the game is enjoyable, and co-op glyph dungeons are really fun. Should you want to co-op, make sure the helper player uses the help bell and the host then uses the call bell 10 seconds later. If you are a fan of the genre, it's worth a play through, but again, way too easy. Made for newcomers and probably a more casual gamer.
