Excellent, yet Simple
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As someone who owns another Blueair air purifier, I had a good understanding of what to expect going into this. The 511i Max is a solid performer for any air purifier in its class. It's difficult to review products like this in depth when they're so simple and effective, but regardless, this unit has a lot of positive aspects... It's also a pleasant reminder that the best products are the ones that do their job silently and efficiently. The 511i Max is controlled best through the Blueair app. I know some folks might not enjoy that aspect of this product, but I would recommend using it over the on-device controls. The app lets you see how many particles are in the air, you can set the fan speed, the LED light brightness, and also set up automations and timers for your air filter. For a set-it-and-forget-it solution, I recommend leaving the air filter in Auto mode and letting it run whenever it needs to. You can connect your Blueair Blue Max i-series air purifier with Google Assistant or Alexa for voice control. You'll also have the ability to change device settings without opening the Blueair app, which I'm sure is a welcome feature for many smart homes our there. The air filter performs wonderfully. When I first set it up in one of my bedrooms, it was so quiet that I was worried it wasn't running yet. Believe it or not, the device was running on its lowest fan speed. Later in the week when I grilled hamburgers indoors, some smoke and airborne food particles made their way to the bedroom. The 511i Max immediately kicked into full strength filtering and got the smokey food smell out of the room within a few minutes. I can't ask for anything better than that. The adaptive air filtering is top notch, the filters are overall quite long lasting, and having clean air in your home is so good for your health. Personally, I plan to pick up one more of these air filters for the last bedroom in the house. These air filters are wonderful and highly recommended by me.

Great Air purifier
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One of the best air purifiers so far. This air purifier is great. It's no that big or bulky. It runs very quietly to the point that you can hear it. The bottom portion of the unit is the filter. The filter is covered by a cloth like cover. The filtered air is the pushed out from the top. The air can be a little cool at times. The unit can be connected to a app for more customized settings and features. On the app, it can give you detailed information on air quality, filter life, and more. One of the great features is the "night mode". Night mode makes the unit run more quietly but still maintain the air quality. The fan has three settings and then the night mode. The light indicators on the unit help the user identify if the air is clean. Overall, this is a great air filter the features of the unit itself is a great value the connection of the app to access additional features makes it even better. This would make a great gift for anyone. The size of the unit also doesnt take up too much space.

Nice looking, very efficient with air quality sens
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This a very essential product to be installed in any bedroom especially if you care about your breathing air quality... I've had several air purifiers before this one. Most of them are just a combination of fan and a HEPA filter installed inside. The fan is running all the time with adjustable speed. They used to work ok but with manual intervention every time. This one is something else. First, the Blueair is equipped with air quality measurement sensor that's measuring the concentration of airborne particles (Dust, Pollen, Pet dander, and other pollutants). The sensor, when in automatic mode, is measuring the air quality and adjust the fan speed accordingly. In the beginning, I thought that is not working as it kept showing clean air. Then, when I opened the window in the morning, it started kicking in at faster speed. It would max the speed fan if I am out of shower with the WC door open. The filter is a descent size. I read that you can wash the outer cover. It helps extending the lifespan of the filter. After unboxing, I connected the filter to power and installed the app. It was very easy to set it up and getting it connected. One negative point to mention here that the filter works with WiFi 2.4 GHz only. I had to activate it on my router. Shortly after connecting it to WiFi, my filter stopped responding. I thought it was bricked or dead. After waiting ~10 min it came back to life again. It was updating its firmware... I wish it asked my permission before starting the update or at least warned about it. The first night I set it to night mode. It was working all night with relatively quite fan. The room air quality wasn't very good. After an hour, it showed the clean air indication on the LED (in the front) and also on the app. In the morning, I decided to switch it to Automatic. I think it is the best mode to set. It would turn on sometimes depending on the air quality. Even at the highest speed, it is still acceptable. The HEPA and the cover are muffling the fan noise and suction. I can feel the air coming at the top as a good flow. HEPA claims it cleans 99.97% of airborne particles. I think it is believable. What is so good about it: - Automatic function and phone app: very nice features and options. Checking your air quality 24/7. - Fan speed is very good with low noise created. Very quite operation. - Easy to use: Simple control interface. Nothing to worry about. - Effective LED showing the air quality. - Filter lifetime measurement from the app and the possibility to order a filter for honestly a good price. - Filtration is very effective. You can actually feel the difference when cleaning. - Stylish design with a good size to be placed in your room near the bed or at a good corner. - Power supplied to the filter from a small power adapter. The adapter is external. I like that better than my older air purifier. What is not so good about it: - Filter price is on the high side... Still - Not supporting 5G WiFi. I had to set a new 2.4G WiFi network for making it work. - The price is a bit on the high side. I think this point is debatable when compared to other brands.. I would recommend getting it if you have new born baby or if you care about your room's air quality. Good as a gift too.

Stylish Air Purifier with App Integration
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Blue Pure Air 511i is yet another winning air purifier from a brand that I really like. Blueair makes some of my favorite air purifiers. They tend to be stylish, quiet, and perform well. The Blue Pure Air 511i Max is no exception. From the pre-filter to Wi-Fi connectivity, nearly everything about the experience is first rate. Setup: Thankfully, the purifier comes ready to use out of the box. The unit is comprised of a base and a twist on top with the fan unit and controls. The prefilter and filter attach to the base of the unit. You can purchase replacement pre-filters of assorted colors to match your specific room’s aesthetic. Replacement pre-filters run around $9 at the time of this review and replacement filters are about $29.99 although there are specialty filters for allergens and smoke that run a bit more. Wi-fi connectivity is easy to set up. You need the Blueair app, but the app will walk you through connecting the purifier to your Wi-Fi network. Experience: The purifier is stylish and quiet. On lower settings it is inaudible. I evaluated the purifier with the candle smoke test and the purifier recognized the smoke from the candle and cleared the air quickly. One feature I have especially appreciated is the child lock. I do not have to worry about my toddler accidentally turning the purifier off or changing settings. The app experience is particularly good. You can control the purifier from the application and get limited readouts of your room’s air quality. Everything in the app works well. This also means there is smart home integration for the Blue Pure Air 511i. However, at the time of my review, Alexa integration does not work. You cannot sign in or connect the skill at this time and all the 1-star reviews back this reality up. However, I was able to get things working well through Google Home. Conclusion: This is another impressive air purifier from Blueair. The new features work very well. The only nitpick I have is that Alexa integration is currently broken. Still, everything else has worked well and I am sure I will be buying more pre-filters and filters for this purifier for years to come. 4.5/5

Decent small room air purifier
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is decent for a small room. Not much to it when you open the box. Just the air purifier wrapped in plastic. Cord comes already attached. Includes a small instruction manual but the basic step is, like everything else that is tech, is to download the app and go from there. You can use this without wifi, and the instruction manual tells you how to turn off the pairing light if you don’t want to use wifi, but there really is no reason not too. You get more alerts from the app. Can use it to change the speeds and functions, and also use it to alert you when the filter needs to be changed. This is my second blueair purifier, so I already had the app. It was super easy to just “add new device” in the app and pair the new purifier. Not much else to say with this. It works good for a small room. Has 3 regular speeds, an auto speed, and a night time “nightlight” speed to keep this quiet for sleeping. You can also read the manual to see how to turn off the display lights on the unit itself, so you aren’t distracted while sleeping if you use this in a bedroom. I definitely dimmed the lights a little, but kept them on to use kind of like a night light. Very useful. You can also use the app to dim and adjust the brightness. Only downside to this, is I don’t like the fact there is not actual “buttons” that click so you know when you actually pushed something. The buttons on the unit are just tap sensitive. And there is a delay when you first tap them. So you might tap it, not realizing it’s already booting up, tap it again and accidentally mess up the speed you wanted. Not a huge deal, but something I don’t find ideal. Actual buttons would be better

Nice small air purifier
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Up until three years ago Blueair was a brand I had never heard of until I got the Protect 7470i and it quickly became my main air purifier. I use that one to control the smell of some food my girlfriend cooks from spreading throughout the whole house! The 511 will be my air purifier for my small office to help even more. One of the best features of my 7470 is the ability to control and monitor everything with the app, with the price of the 511 it’s nice that you have the same control as most other inexpensive air purifiers don’t have app control. The 511 comes with a removable grey fabric pre filter and they have three other colors available if you want to customize it for your environment. You also have two other filter choices when replacing the main filter. The standard filter is particle+carbon and the other two are allergenblock and smokeblock. During operation the purifier is very quiet on setting one and relatively quite on two. When it’s running on three (the highest setting), it’s not quiet but it’s far from what I would call loud. I mean no air purifier I have is quite on its highest setting as it is a fan that’s spinning after all! Leaving it in auto mode, 95% of the time it will be running in the lowest setting until it detects odors. If you’re looking for an inexpensive small room air purifier that can be customized, the Blueair 511i is a great choice.

excellent at particulate removal
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This air filter is well made, and actually looks quite nice. It is not too big or bulky, and blends in any area easily. It is listed as being able to clean a large room - up to a 920 square feet - in 1 hour. I placed it in a smaller room of about 150 square feet, and ran the machine on medium setting. The fan is whisper quiet – even on high setting – and on low or medium settings, it is hardly audible. There is a Blue Air app which allows you to monitor air quality, scheduling, filter tracking, and many other features that can be customized. The unit can be easily disassembled for cleaning and / or filter replacement. The outer per-filter can be washed and reused. The inner main filter seems quite large with many pleats, and should last quite a long time – of course depending on room size, and level of particulate matter in the air. It is rated to “remove at least 99.97% of tiny airborne particles like viruses and smoke down to 0.1 microns, and capture pet dander, pollen, mold, allergen and dust”. It worked well removing dust and dander from the room I used it in. It was also listed as being able to trap light household odors from smoke, pets and cooking. Again, in the room where I was testing we also used as a “sleeping” room for two cats. On this, even with the charcoal filter, the unit fell short. After running all night, I didn't notice much of a difference in the pet odor in the room in the morning. For a cleaner environment, and the ability to remove dust, particulate matter, and even viruses, this might be a good choice. For this purpose, I would recommend. As far as odor removal, this doesn't seem to be highly effective.

A sleek and powerful edition to your space
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As an allergy sufferer that is irritated by the strangest contaminates (I choke when someone near me or at my table orders fajitas at a Mexican restaurant), I discovered the benefit of an air purifier by accident. I once shared an office with another employee at my workplace who had similar issues and she brought an air purifier into our space. I noticed quite an improvement and the weird "new construction" smells seemed to calm down as well. This Blueair 511i is not the largest air purifier I have used, but it is among the most powerful. The square footage coverage of this unit is a good fit for my small living room, and even though my home is "open concept", it's not fully open, so I found it was still quite effective in my space. At the time of my writing, it is autumn in my region and one smell that is frequent in my area is the smell of burning leaves. While I don't find it unpleasant, if the smoke is thick, it can be irritating to my nose and nasal passages. I also like certain fragranced candles especially when I have company, which is not much of an issue until I blow them out. Then you get that smell. You know the one. After just a few occasions of running this air purifier under either of these circumstances, I noticed quite a difference after it ran for a short time. When you are present amongst an odor, you because less sensitive to it, but if you blow out a candle, then move about your home and return to the room, you will still smell it for a while. The smell was barely noticeable after about 10 minutes of blowing out a candle and running the air purifier. The monitor on it (both on the device and the app, more later) still had "some work to do" but the smell was definitely all but gone. Since smells/odors are caused by particulates in the air, this device is a fantastic way to deal with them! I like to run it after cooking broccoli as well - love the veggie, hate the smell of cooking it. The Blueair line has a few features that are new to me from some of the much less expensive models I have used. The size and power is the biggest in this case, but like so many home devices, this one has a mobile app which adds a lot of functionality to it. AIR QUALITY MONITORING You can actually monitor this from the device itself. The small LED on the front will be lit with a color based on the particulate matter in the air - blue is as clean as possible, red means highly polluted, and then the spectrum in between. On the app, you can monitor in real-time the particulate count and a chart to follow it. In the case of blowing out my candle, my nose noticed a difference in 10 minutes, but as you'll see from my screenshot, it took about 30 minutes to fully clean the air. FAN SPEEDS AND NOISE LEVELS This is overall a very quiet device, but at high speeds, you will hear a fan noise. It's a pretty steady noise, so not distracting. Time will tell if as the device ages, that fan noise becomes more irregular. The top of the unit contains the button for changing the fan speed (it's basically a touch-sensitive device, but without the glass cover we are used to on our phones, tablets, and laptops). The LED light indicates the fan speed. On the mobile app, you can fine tune this fan speed to fall between the 0, 1, 2, or 3 level of the default speed settings to balance the effectiveness with whatever noise tolerance you have. LED CONTROL Hate the LED lights that are present on EVERYTHING an makes your home look like a spaceship in the dark? You can turn them off completely! Or if you like to be able to see the light to know if the unit is one, you can dim them significantly. You will need the app to do this. SCHEDULING This feature requires the app, but you can schedule the air purifier to run at scheduled intervals. For example, schedule the device to start running before someone arrives home in the evening, or schedule it to run automatically at dinner time to remove cooking smells. The scheduler can be configured to run at any time of the day and turn off at any other time. You can set a finite fan speed, LED brightness, and even what actions the device should take when that schedule is finished (including continuing to run but maybe at a different setting). Lots of controls here! OTHER NOTABLE FEATURES The device will alert you when it is time to replace the filter, and you can monitor its health in the app. Obviously the more polluted your air, the more frequently you will have to change the filter. The other filter (the mesh-like fabric cover) is washable and replaceable and is actually available in other colors if you wish to purchase those separately. There is a child-lock feature that when activated, will lock the fan speed so it must be unlocked to change it. This is handy as the touch-sensitive buttons on the device are sensitive and could easily be changed by a child or pet. Connecting to Wi-Fi is rather easy once you download the app and create your account. Once you have an account setup, you will be able to add additional devices and name them (I named mine Living Room). The included instruction manual will walk you through this - just follow carefully. Overall, this Blueair Air Purifier is a sleek looking and very effective way to clean the air in your home. Longevity of the air filter will vary depending on the elements in your home, but that is a sign that there is a greater need for it if your filter life seems to go down quickly. However, from my testing so far of several days of running after blowing out a candle, a day of burning leaves smells, and running daily for about 6 hours on schedule in the evenings, my filter life is still at 99% (I do not have pets). This model may be more expensive than others on the shelf, but the quality and features have shown me that you definitely get what you pay for!

cozy chic design and clean air
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since 2020, I’ve come to believe that keeping my air clean is the single most effective thing I can do to stay healthy and reduce the spread of germs. I’ve tried a few different air purifiers over that time, and they all have their pros and cons. I was optimistic that the Blue Pure 511i Max would be a good one, in part because of good reviews from HouseFresh.com . I was not disappointed. My previous air purifier had my particulate sensor at a baseline of around 8 μg/m³, and within a few hours of plugging in the Blue Pure 511i Max it went to 0. Two main things I personally want to see in a purifier: (1) Is it quiet enough that it isn’t annoying to have it running all the time? and (2) can I get replacement filters at a relatively low cost? This purifier is among the best for both criteria. On the lowest setting, this purifier is very quiet, almost silent. It additionally has a very nice air quality sensor built in that facilitates an automatic mode that adjusts the fan speed depending on the presence of impurities to be removed from the air. It works very well, and even on higher fan speeds this purifier is quieter (and effective!) compared to other purifiers I’ve tried. As of now, replacement filters can be ordered for about $25. Blueair actually has a few different filter options available, which is interesting. More advanced filters (e.g. more carbon) are available at a slightly higher cost. The basic filters are among the lowest cost I’ve seen for a purifier this size, which is fantastic. One reason for this is that the purifier is built in such a way that the disposable filter is separated from any plastic frame or support, so there’s the added benefit of minimal plastic waste. The only parts that need to be replaced are the filter fabric itself and the carbon mesh. Additionally, there’s a washable fabric outer filter that helps keep larger dust particles and lint out of the paper filter fabric, which I’m sure will help the filter last longer before it needs to be replaced. In setting up my unit, I had an occasion to contact customer support. They responded within a day and were friendly and helpful. I noticed that some reviews of Blueair purifiers complained that they contain an electronic ionizer that cannot be controlled separately (it cannot be turned off). The Blue Pure 511i Max is the same way. There’s a concern that ionizers can produce ozone, which is not particularly healthy for people and can cause irritation. I felt better about this particular purifier when I saw that it is certified by the State of California indicating that it does not produce a significant amount of ozone. The ionizer seems to be a built-in part of why this purifier does such a good job at keeping the air clean. One final point: this purifier does NOT have a built-in voice assistant. I cannot say anything about its compatibility with Google or Amazon home automation systems since I don’t use them. It does integrate with HomeKit. Normally I would prefer HomeKit compatibility, but when this purifier is set on automatic mode there’s really no need to adjust it ever, manually or through home automation.

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.INTRODUCTION This is my 2nd Blueair product. My main unit is quite large and made to clean large rooms, the 511i Max is an excellent companion, made to clean small areas like bedrooms. Based on my experience with the 511’s big brother, I’m guessing filter life to be approximately 6 – 9 months. SET-UP The 511i Max comes in 3 parts. The motor assembly, a spacer ring and the base that the filter slides over, all covered by a fabric pre-filter that is pre-installed into the motor assembly. The 511i includes built-in Wi-Fi and is set-up by Blueair’s simple and extremely intuitive app. The app is basic and simple and setting up a 511i with the app couldn’t be easier or more straightforward. The app connects to the 511i, transfers your Wi-Fi information, and then disconnects where the 511i then joins your home Wi-Fi. It is simple and straightforward. But it also begs the question: Does an air purifier really need Wi-Fi? USE I configured the 511 to Auto Mode, as I’m sure most folks will. Using this mode, the 511 monitors indoor air quality and adjusts its speed based on monitored particle count. Just like its big brother, the air quality sensor is very sensitive and the 511 is quick to respond to changes in indoor air quality. The air quality can also be monitored via the Blueair app as well. On Auto Mode, my 511 is virtually silent. The only way I can hear the machine run is placing my ear less than a foot above the exhaust. However, when my indoor air quality does get worse, the 511 is annoying. Not that it is loud, but the fan makes an odd, scratchy rattle. I equate it to a PC’s case fan when the ball bearings start to fail. The cost cutting is evident. In Auto Mode with good air quality, you can’t hear the issue unless you get up close. But it is there and there all the time. When the machine does need to ramp up the fan due to poor air quality the fan rattle becomes evident from within the room and is annoying. My large Blueair air cleaner has been running non-stop for nearly 4 years and doesn’t have this symptom. FINAL THOUGHTS The 511i Max is a sleek looking air cleaner. It looks much nicer than the basic appliances from other manufacturers. The Blueair app is very thought out and lets you monitor and control the machine from anywhere. You can tweak nearly every part of the 511 via the app. LED brightness, fan speed, monitor the air quality, the app even keeps track of remaining filter life. It is a great app. What isn’t great, is how much cheaper the 511i feels compared to Blueair’s other products. Materials feel much flimsier, and the quality seems far cheaper. The icing on the cake is the cheaply designed fan. I’ve been fortunate to test air purifiers from nearly every manufacturer and none of them have ever had the rattling problem the Blueair does. Other small room air cleaners in my house that have been knocked off dressers from kids or cats don’t rattle. NOT RECOMMENDED

Fresh air, filtered for you.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Once, while hiking atop an 800-year-old volcano in Iceland, with a stiff wind blowing from the north Atlantic, I breathed in more fresh air than I thought I might have ever needed for the rest of my life. That might be an overstatement, but conversely, when you are breathing air that’s less than ideal and need a helpful hand in picking the putrid particles from the pleasant, you can rely on the Blue Pure 511i Max to help sort out the sordid air you may be breathing. How does this Swedish design firm achieve this? Surprisingly, not by capturing and ladling breathy ABBA harmonies throughout the room. Nope, it’s more like the magic of HEPASilent™ filtering employed at customer-selected speeds via the simple on-unit buttons, or via the available app. In addition to the three manual speeds, there are automatic and night modes, where the night mode drops the fan speed to a quiet minimum sound and an appropriately dim lighting scheme. The automatic mode seeks to filter out particles in the air to a level of PM 2.5 (Particulate matter of 2.5 microns in size), and is measured by an on-board particle sensor. As the air is being cleaned, the particle sensor measures and reports the perceived air quality to the app which shows five differently-colored display illustrations keyed to the air quality. Keep in mind that this unit was designed for smaller, closed rooms that are less than 193 square feet, or about 14 feet by 14 feet. The app also keeps track of the unit’s efforts in cleaning the air as well as use and filter condition based on time used and air quality filtered. Overall, a useful and well-developed app. I have to admit that I house a degree of skepticism towards the efficiency of products in this market segment. I don’t quite understand how a relatively slow-moving fan barely moving air can be expected to clean all the air in a room. It’s rated at 4.8 air changes per hour, which must be in the fastest speed, but it’s hard to believe that the slower speeds would do very much, other than clean the air in a very small and local subset of the room. The proof of effectiveness is, of course, going to be lodged in the filter and prefilter over time. This Blueair model is designed to capture smaller particles that pertain to elements like smell, smoke, pollen, as well as regular dust particles. The filtering of particulates of PM 2.5 size mentioned in their literature, is achieved by the use of electrostatic, mechanical and/or carbon filtering. There are three different filters that work with this unit. The included one, is the Particle and Carbon, and optionally available are the Allergenblock and the Smokeblock, which are self-evident. Some of the other features that I like about this product are the aesthetic design choices, the easy filter cleaning and/or replacement and the intuitive and well-designed controls. In addition, the outer fabric covering of the air cleaner serves double-duty as a washable pre-filter, as well as a cosmetic chameleon, due to its availability in numerous “Scandinavian inspired” colors at relatively low cost. There is also a subscription plan available that will supply you with your desired filter types at a reduced-price rate and at apt user-defined intervals. I’m also a big fan of included, quality, paper manuals for products, that have clear illustrations and readable type, as they have done here. The fan noise is, of course, proportional to the fan speed, but is quite reasonably quiet at from 19 to 48 dB per Blueair’s specification. If you need a white noise generator to help you get to sleep, this could be a fairly quiet one at the faster speeds. On the cons side of the equation, I’m not a big fan of permanently attaching a wall wart’s cord to the body of a unit. If there are issues with the power supply, it seems like you’re just creating more work or cost by binding them together, not to mention making it a little more awkward to move. I like this product for the performance, price, features and simplicity. In my use of the product, I did not have any particular air quality issues that needed to be addressed, and my daughter’s cat moved out just as this device arrived, so I was unable to test this in the cat’s sleeping area to see if it helped. However, used in our bedroom, it seems to be doing just fine, as I perceive no noticeable air quality issues and a bonus reduction of dust on furniture. As I have no way to verify empirical data on this unit in a short period of time, I will just have to trust that the specifications were drawn from reliable testing and adequate design. If this model doesn’t seem to fit your room size or other air handling requirements, there are many models in the Blueair lineup that probably will. Seems like a good company from previous product’s awards and all I’ve read.

Clean breathing
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The setup for the 511i Max was quick and easy. Blueair made it so simple that I couldn’t even believe it. I took it out the box, turned it on, opened the app and hit the connect product +. I already had a Blueair classic, so I had the app and an account setup. I’m familiar with the ui and features of the Blueair app which made it easier for me to use. I wanted to add this to a nursery and it is perfect for it. It is quiet, goes well with the other things in the room and now I know the baby is breathing cleaner air. The Blueair 511i is designed to keep a small 465 square feet room properly clean/filter in about 30 minutes. This is going to be on all the time for the nursery. I have it on auto setting with the lights dimmed. I will monitor it using the app and notifications. The app rates the air quality of the room and outside. I compare the ratings and the Blueair is usually excellent and outside is usually good. I’m going to enjoy breathing the fresh air of 511i and the health benefits that come along with it. I recommend an air purifier for any room you are spending a lot of time in. The Blueair 511i filters smoke, pollen, pet dander, dust, molds, viruses and other bacteria. If you’re looking for something that helps with allergies this air purifier will help. I started using air purifiers a couple of years ago because of allergies and I will not be going back. My best feature is that it cleans the air!

Great Air Purifier for Small Rooms
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have a small bedroom or home office and are concerned about the air quality, then you must look into the Blueair Blue Pure 511iMax. I already own the larger 411i Max sister unit in my master bedroom and have been a giant fan. I’ll tell you why! Firstly, the 511iMax is a fairly small unit. It’s nearly the same size as my office wastepaper basket. It stands about 14.5” tall and is about 9.3” round. It’s easy to find an empty spot to place it. The power cord is certainly long enough to get it anywhere. It’s incredibly light – the weight is really at the top in the fan/control unit. The main body is hollow inside, surrounded by filter. The white top / grey lower color scheme is certainly Swedish influenced as mentioned on the packaging. I think this doesn’t blend in any more than it stands out. It’s a good example of a set it and forget it device. Now that it’s been in my office for several days, I don’t even notice it’s there. As for the unit, there are controls on the top of unit in the fan. There are two touch sensitive buttons: power and fan. The fan button cycles through 5 modes: Auto, Night Mode, and 3 different levels of fan strength. As the fan strength increases, so does the volume. At the third and highest level it is for sure a noticeable sound, but frankly not any louder than any other fan running on high. There is a night mode designed to run at the lowest speeds and dim all the lights. As for lights, there’s one to indicate which mode, a dot for wifi status, and on the front of the unit rather than on top is a pill shaped light that changes color for the air quality status: Blue for excellent, green for good, yellow for moderate, yellow for polluted, red for very polluted. The lights, even at their highest settings, aren’t too bad, although at night in a very dark room they ARE noticeable. The lower section of the unit is the filter itself. This consists of both a replaceable filter and a pre-filter cover. They say, depending on the air quality level, the filter needs to be replaced every 6-9 months. I find this to be reasonable. Replacements also come in higher filtration levels. You can purchase replacement filters that filter out more particulate matter. The pre-filter is the grey color fabic you can see surrounding the unit. This can be both vacuumed and washed depending on how dirty it is. It can also be bought and replaced in different colors, should you wish to change up the mood. The big deal with the 511iMax is that it is internet connected. The phone app was easy to set up. If you’ve set up any WiFi connected smart device, the process is pretty similar: you open the app, it connects to the unit via Bluetooth, you tell it the WiFi connection info, and it saves and you’re good to go! The app can control all the features of the device and more. So, you can adjust modes, set a child-mode to prevent button touches from activating, adjust the LED brightness, see your estimated filter life, as well as scheduling and geofencing. The scheduling lets you set the intensity and LED status on any recurring schedule. I set it to automatically go to night mode in the evening. The Welcome Home geofencing mode lets you put it into standby when leaving and returning to your house. It’s a neat feature, but I just let mine run at auto at all times. The app is also great for letting you see charts of your air quality. This includes every internet connected Blueair filter you have as well as outdoor air quality statistics. If you thought what happens outdoors doesn’t effect the indoors, think again! I have this filter in my office, a space I spend a lot of time in, as well as my dog. This space has poorer air circulation than the rest of the house, so this has been fantastic at keeping both the staleness of unmoving air, plus the inevitable smells of middle aged man and dog. If you’re wondering if I’ve actually noticed a difference, the answer is a resounding yes! You can not only look at the color light to see the activity, but if it’s on auto, you may hear the fan level rising as it cleans the air. Candles in the office don’t alter anything, but a hit off a vape pen or my wife using copious amounts of hairspray in the other room will set it off! And, at least one time, my dog did expel some flatulence right in front of the machine, and as hoped for, the air quality went down and it started to clean the air! I don’t have much in the ways of downsides, but I do want to clarify some potentially misleading information in terms of what size room this filter can handle. According to BlueAir itself, the recommended room size for this filter is “up to 193 square feet.” That’s not to say you can’t put it in a larger room – but the larger the room, the longer it could take to clean spaces. In this case, 193 square feet can be filtered through in 12.5 minutes, 460 square feet in 30 minutes, and 920 in an hour. Franky, I’m not 100% sure what the real negatives are for those longer times. I’m making an assumption that it’s really a matter of reducing smells and particulate matter quicker. That said, I’m of the mindset to stick to the recommended max room size in hopes of the best efficiency. This is my second Blueair air filter and I’m a fan for life. If you’re unsure of air filters, please be rest assured that it DOES work and DOES make a difference. If you’ve a space that’s a little stale, a little smelly, or needs the air to just be a bit cleaner for your health, you owe it to yourself to check out the Blue Pure 511iMax!

Clicking Sound in Fan
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.About the Blueair Blue Pure 511i The Blueair Blue Pure 511i is a home air purifier designed for a room up to 465 square feet. It utilizes a single air filter to clean the air around it. The Blue Pure series is the higher end of what Blueair makes, claiming to be the top-performing line for Blueair. This series claims to clean the air quietly, quickly, and better than other air filters. There is an app for your phone to see more information about its status and to control its settings. Size & Appearance The air filter has a clean looking design. The first thing that I noticed was the gray textured fabric on three quarters of the filter. The top area is plastic and houses the fan and control buttons. The size of the unit is kind of medium. It doesn’t exactly fit well on a nightstand, but it’s not as large as some of the other air filters that I have owned. I would describe this as a smaller floor-standing unit. Setting Up Setting the air filter up was easy. Everything was ready out of the box. Plug it in and connect it to the app. The app can be found in the App Store or on Google Play. I already had the app installed on my phone since I own one of Blueair’s Dust Magnet filters. Connection to the app worked flawlessly. It does want you to connect to a 2.4 GHz signal. My Eero 6e Pro had no issues connecting. App Controls The app gives you the option to control the filter settings through your Wi-Fi. You can control things such as: *Brightness of LED lights * Fan speed * Name the Air Filter (handy if you purchase more than one) It uses your location to provide information on the air outdoors to give you an understanding of your external environment. You can select the Indoor screen to see the PM level, and it gives a general condition description such as Polluted, Moderate, Excellent, etc. It does allow you to track multiple Blueair products, so you can buy multiples and name them differently. Touch Controls Touch controls allow you to adjust the air purifier without needing the app. The buttons are on the top of the unit. You can control things such as: *Brightness of LED lights (using Night mode) * Fan speed (Auto, Night, 1, 2, & 3) Filter The 511i has 1 large filter. The gray fabric cover goes directly over the filter and works almost as a second filter that you can clean off. The single filter is a replaceable type, so you will replace it every so often, which the app will help you track of when to do that. Note that there’s no case around the filter. You literally touch the filter through the gray cover when you pick it up. If something bumps into it, it could damage the filter. Air Flow The air enters the base of the unit and is pulled out at the top. You can feel wind blowing out of the top when it is on. As I mentioned earlier, you can clean the outer gray cover to help the air flow properly. Sound The volume of sound is very low until you put it on the highest setting (3). We were using this in the bedroom and were looking for an air purifier/sound machine combo. The 511i is not good for a sound machine. It won’t drown any noise out unless you have it up on setting 3. Even then it’s not going to drown out much. The worst thing about this product is the sound that it makes. It sounds like a Desktop PC fan that is about to go out. Very light clicky sound that does not stop. You can hear this on all of the settings except the loudest one. Only then does the clicking gets covered by the sound of the machine itself. This one issue is a non-negotiable for me, and causes me to say that I cannot recommend this particular air purifier. Air Freshness After using it for 3 or so days, I cannot really tell that there’s a huge difference in air quality. I think that’s something that has to be measured with instruments to really understand what all it’s doing. Our house uses a lot of single air filters in different rooms as well as us changing the main furnace filters four times a year, so it may be harder for me to notice a change in freshness for this one room. Overall, I cannot recommend this product and am giving it 3 stars. I think that it probably works fine for the job it’s supposed to do. The app works well, and the air purifier looks nice. The constant clicking sound and the fact that the filter is not protected are quality issues that should have been considered before the product was released.

I like it
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased the Blueair Blue Pure 511i Max for my bedroom, and I'm impressed! This air purifier is sleek, quiet, and efficient. It uses HEPASilent technology to remove 99% of airborne pollutants like dust, pet dander, and allergens, making the air feel noticeably cleaner. The smart air quality sensor adjusts the fan speed automatically, and I love being able to control it through the Blueair app. It covers up to 926 sq ft, which is perfect for my room, and operates quietly enough that I can sleep without disruption. The filter system is easy to maintain, and the app sends reminders when it’s time to replace the filters. While it’s a bit pricey, the performance and features are worth it. I would definitely recommend this air purifier if you need a reliable, quiet option with smart capabilities!

Save me from the stench!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.True story: I had a piece of furniture delivered by a two-man crew. One of the men must have showered in cologne that morning. The overpowering stench of the man was vomit-inducing. Within seconds of his arrival this purifier (which has been practically silent since its installation) kicked into max fan speed and wasted no time attempting to clear the air of the putrid odor this man brought with him. The man was in the house for less than 10 minutes but his scent would persist for the next hour as this little purifier worked its butt off. I have several other Blueair filters in other rooms in the home and all of them experienced this same effect. In fact in the four years of using Blueair products in the home this was the first (and hopefully the only) time that the Blueair app recorded a red Very Polluted line on the air quality chart. It was rough going for an hour but in the end this purifier cleaned up the mess. I was curious how this unit would do with popcorn. I recently completed a home theater installation and the bar area has a popcorn machine. I moved the filter into the bar area and I made my usual batch. Within seconds of the oil hitting the pan the purifier kicked into full speed. While the fan at level 1 and 2 is mostly silent, level 3 is loud. Twenty minutes of this thing running at full speed was getting in the way of the film. While the unit did filter the air and the bar did not smell like popcorn for long, we decided a larger Blueair was a better choice for this specific use case. With the unit back in its original room I’ve enjoyed a virtually silent experience and the peace of mind of breathing filtered air.

Great for office or bedroom
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a big fan of the BlueAir purifiers. They really do a great job. My home office is always locked when I am not using it for security. It becomes musty and stale. This is the perfectly sized air purifier for my space. My office space is completely refreshed in 12 minutes on the high setting. The unit is always on auto setting unless I want a quick refresh. It runs quietly on low and you can dim the lights to a low setting. The app will also indicate filter life and you can control the fan speed on the app or the unit itself. There is also a welcome home feature that can track you and adjust your purifier based on your scheduled arrival. I have used that feature in the past but don’t like the tracking permissions. The HEPA filtration system works well. The activated carbon filter lasts about 9 months. That is pretty standard with all of the BlueAir purifiers I have owned. The pre-filters (fabric dust cover) really help extend filter life. They sell 3 different colors of pre-filters that are fairly neutral. They used to have vibrant colors and I miss them. I am deducting a point because they should include an extra pre-filter in the package. It is nice to swap one while washing the other. You can really smell cleaner air with this unit. Highly recommended.
