With all the comparisons to Fallout 3, I expected a lot. It didn't come close. Even after adjusting my ideas of what to expect, it still wasn't all that great.
First the good. As advertised, there really is bazillions of guns. The vehicles are nice and there is a little combat with them, but they're really just meant to get from A to B faster. It is a good length game and the multiplayer is where the game shines. And the little robots are really enjoyable to listen to and watch, as are the hockey mask attackers. And the RPG-like customization works well for this FPS.
Now the bad. I hope you like the desolate wasteland, because that's what you're going to see. The entire. Freaking. Game. There is a moment toward the end it changes, but seeing the same landscape, regardless what area you're in, gets mindnumbing. The story is as shallow as a kiddie pool. When there is a lot of action going on, the screen gets glitchy. The bosses will kill you quick, regardless of your arsenal unless you know the tactic to beat them. And when I say "them" I mean that the same tactic is used for pretty much all of them.
All in all, it's not a bad game, and if you can get it for cheap or wait until the price drops, it'll be worth it. But unless youre a huge fan of online multiplayer, spend the $60 on something else.

This is one of the best games for the PS3 so far. I bought it Tuesday morning and played late into the evening. If you like FPS you will love this, if you like RPGs you will love this...if you like both, this will probably be your most favorite game ever. You receive xp for both killing monsters and completing missions, the graphics are great, and the skill progression system seems to be pretty sweet so far. I played both solo and coop online and both worked flawlessly. I only have a few complaints in regards to the game: (1) Very little to no character customization. (2) Would've been nice if they had different armor that would be reflected on your character (3) The little robot though amusing at times and at the beginning of the game gets rather annoying. (4) Picking up ammo and loot should've been handled differently for coop because in my experiences yesterday there seems to be alot of people online that just run straight for the loot drops and pickup everything. Other than those 4 things the game is a perfect blend of FPS & RPG...I can't wait to play some more.

Diablo With Guns!

Another new game I picked up during a sale. Had my eye on it, heard it got mixed reviews. Popped it in. And I got hooked. Graphically, its like a sharp comic book coming alive. The action's where it's at. Like Diablo, you can fight against enemies (some of which WILL be beyond your level, so you will need to steer clear of until later), take up numerous quests (which also have their own degree of difficulty AND boss battles to an extent), and collect weapons. Lots and lots of guns. Some reviewers are already calling it the biggest new IP of this year. Looks like they're probably right.

this game is not to be missed by the fans o shooter games and rpg games alike. i have played through the story line countless times and a just as much fun as the first time through. Also, the Downloadable content is the best money I have ever spent on an add-on. Explore the world o pandora with your friends, collect new and exotic guns, and kill everything you see! You will enjoy

Borderlands is a decent game although in my opinion it suffers from various problems such as the game difficulty. when playing you ar epresented with side missions in addition to the main story missions, when you play the side missions and level up the story missions become so easy they feel like a chore due to the lack of challenge and the same happens if u were to the do the story missions first and attempt the side missions later.
the story line is horrible, it almost doesn't have one and im not even gonna start about the ending.
the online commmuity on the PS3 for Borderlands is still very small.
graphics glitch occasionally and are slow to load
and a mojor problem would be that the game does nto run smoothly when u play 2 person co op.
Its not worth 60 bucks, even though the scale of the game is pretty big

When I first heard about this game I was skeptical. I don't really like first person shooters and rarely play them. But a friend of mine said that if there was a first person shooter that I would like, it is Borderlands. And he was right.
You start off choosing from four different characters who each have different abilities and equipment. Once you choose your character you're thrown into the game quite quickly. The thing about this FPS is that it has some RPG aspects, which is the main reason why I like it. You level up and spend skill points. You gain proficiencies in different weapon types and you can see how much damage you are actually doing to an enemy because numbers show up for every bullet you land. There is also a lot of replay value.
Overall, I highly recommend this game.

I like me some FPS but RPGs have always been a lure. This game is mostly FPS though and you might say it is RPG Light. Don't come into this hoping for Fallout 3 or Mass Effect. The game plays out as a FPS but has the kind of RPG quests you find in Guild Wars or those free to play online MMORPGs. That's not a bad thing, but if you're expecting something deep then read up a little more before buying.
As for the actual gameplay it is easy to pick up and play and has very satisfying combat. The looting system seems top notch and is quite addicting once the good stuff starts showing up. It's too bad they went with the vending machine mechanic for the stores but I guess it would be hard to explain why a vendor is in Skag Valley.
As for the enemies, the AI is quite good. Dumb Skags jump and charge at you as any dumb dog might. The bandits are quite smart and will hide and retreat if need be. They can also be quite well armed which poses quite a challenge sometimes.
The graphics are interesting for sure. A lot of people are hating on the game because it's cell shaded and they thing that it wouldn't stand up but I think it's fantastic and enjoy the graphics as much as I did in Prince of Persia.
The one terrible thing about this game is that the vehicles drive HORRIBLY. It's so bad that I can't even fathom why they would allow such nasty controls to get through quality control. One other thing I must mention is that the enemies respawn at an alarming rate. Seeing as how you do not have unlimited amo I kind of think it's overkill. You can clean out the same bandit alleyway three four times while trying to do a mission. It's crazy and you'll often be looking at your amo to make sure you have enough.
Overall I'm very please with this new video game gendre. The missions keep you going and the looting keeps you addicted. But beware, it is an FPS. Those who love RPGs will be hard pressed to see this game as one. I think Modern Warfare had more customization than this. Still, it is a load of fun for what it is and I would easily recommend it to a friend.

I didn't play many 1st person shooters until I played "Black." After playing that I started to take a little more notice of other FPS type games. My favorite type of games are RPG's so when i heard about Borderlands, I was instantly interested; and it definatly didn't disappoint. For starters the game looks absolutely great; not killzone great, but great non-the-less. Secondly, I love games that involve character progression, and Borderlands does this pretty well. You can mold your merc to fit your own play style. The selling factor for me though, was the hell of amount of guns that are in this game. With so much to choose from, it gets no better.

I was surprised with this game. I expected a little and got a lot. I am not blown away however. It has its moments. The story is all over the place and there is way too many guns. Its cool to have options but During an hour of gameplay it's possible to come across 20 or more different guns. The good thing is there are only a few classes of weapons. Putting that aside its still a good game. Its addicting and rewarding. There is some replay value considering there are different heroes to choose from. Is it a must play? If you are craving a FPS / RPG then yes. Its fast moving with a lot of RPG attributes. If you have many games on your plate then there is no need to drop everything and buy it.

A great game with a unique and beautiful visual style that lacks in the solo department. It's difficult to play this game without a friend, but if you have someone to tear through Pandora with, the game becomes very hard to put down.
It's violent, brutal, and you feel like a true raider jumping into war. On your quest you run into a cast of cartoony characters to throw some kind of story into it all. But in the end, it's all about guns, upgrading, and gaining the ability to kill stronger enemies.

Great game play with lots of action. Could be more characters with more unique skills. The controls are very efficient in that switching weapons is quick. Not only is there a lot of action, but one also has to think about strategy: the right weapon for the job.

i picked up this game expecting to be disappointed, even with all the overly positive reviews. I was surprisingly shocked by the addictive gameplay. it's really a hard to put down title. With a variety of missions to keep you busy. I have to say that way the missions were setup were surprising, they do not seem linear once you complete what seems to be a lengthy tutorial. You are thrust out on your own to complete the story line. Load times between sectors are a bit lengthy but are forgivable due to the amount of time you can spend in one area if you so choose.
Personally i spent 8 or so hrs on the game the first night i played. After that i had to set aside time to play the game, not because missions are long but because it seems easier to complete several missions in a row before turning in to collect your bounty.

I am not a fan of RPG's but this game seems different than most. You walk/run/drive around killing different creatures or humans. Some of the enemies have shields or special elemental powers (fire, acid, electricity, explosive) which also makes them immune to the weapons that also have these extra powers. There are tons of different weapons and shields that are all randomly dropped from enemies or found in treasure chests around the maps. You have to complete main missions and side quests to level up to improve your character. You get to choose from 4 different characters, each with different specialties. Best game I have played in a long time, everyone needs this game.

I absolutely had a great time with this title. I also purchased all the DLC, except for Moxi, and had an absolute blast. My husband, who doesn't even play shooters, was as obsessed as I was. Hunting for new and better weapons and the multitude of side quests will keep you going for a long time! The online play with your friends, especially if you have a headset, is great fun! Can't wait for the next one this year. For the price, you can't beat owning this one. Trust me!

Borderlands is a stripped down MMORPG in which you can shoot. It contains most features of all current MMORPG's out and in the past. There are many frustrating omissions like being able to fully use the maps, seeing where your active quest ends, and the ability to gain more or less xp on easier or harder quests etc. Also, the framerate and audio problems really bog down the game on the PS3. There isn't a patch yet as of 11/17/09.
My biggest gripe about this game is it's over all story cause there really isn't one. It's just a long series of quests with no meaning until you get to the disappointing ending.
Some good things are being able to play with 3 more people in your game or in someone else's. The leveling and loot are addictive. The graphics suite the game's tone. You can play through again starting with your same level and loot. The game is much more fun playing with people that you know.
Overall I wouldn't recommend this game to people at the $60 price tag because the negatives out weigh the positives. It's a good game for $30-$40 and would be way better if a patch was applied.
