This Teleconverter is $300 less than Nikon official version, but offers more versatility as it can go on any Nikon Lens, vs the Only Select few lens the offical Nikon 2x and 1.4x, and 1.7x Teleconverters cause Nikon rear lens elements pushes in for some Zoom lens. Aka. you have to buy more expensive lens to get zoom..i use it on 24-120 f4,50 f1.8,Nikon 200-500 f5.6 to get 1,000mm f11, only con is pro cameras and newer auto focus is rated to f8 so Autofocusing is slower and hunts sometimes if not enough light,so Manual focus if the math for 2x is above f8, but you still get VR(if lens has it) which is worth it and why i bought for Professional NFL,NBA,Wildlife use.

Due to the upcoming solar eclipse, I realized I needed to extend the reach of even my largest lens to get good photos. After searching, for a while I found that this had good reviews, but didn't cost as much as the others with similar ratings. I am not disappointed in the least! I noticed no loss of quality when I attached it to my 35 or my 300. It is clear and pretty solid, for the price I don't think you could beat it. The only real complaint I have, is that my old 8lb 300mm lens wiggles a bit when mounted to it, I don't think the connection is milled perfectly, but it is surely good enough to not be noticed with lighter lenses. Overall, 5/5 because It does the job well and doesn't break the bank.

Only works well in manual focus

I thought I would try it out because the price wouldn't break me. I was surprised because I was expecting it to work better in auto focus. I tried a few different lenses on a D7100 and also a D750, with the same results. It did not perform well at all in auto, although in manual the sharpness was good. It does lose 2 full stops, so low light can be a challenge as well. If there's lots of movement with what you're shooting such as sports or wildlife you may end up wanting to take this thing off your camera and seriously consider smashing it out of frustration. If you feel you really have the need for one, then you may be better off spending the extra cash on a Nikon teleconverter but I'm not sure how well those work. I would opt for the correct lens instead.
