While this device can play BluRay discs, I was never able to completely install ALL the software that came with it. The bundled software version was too old to be supported by the company that created it, which is a shame, because the dvd software on my computer is even older but by the same company, so I thought the installation would be a piece of cake. I uninstalled my DVD version of the software first, as a precaution, trying to reduce the risk of conflict, but since it was bundled as part of my computer, I would have to completely restore my computer to get that part working again. Mercifully, I had never used that particular software, and my dvd drive can still make CDs, so it isn't a total disaster. My original plan was to use it to create hard copy backups of data on fewer discs than would be required for cds, but since only part of the software package installed, I have been afraid to actually try doing that part.

Just plug the two USB cords in and go - quiet, too

I just plugged it in and it started working, which is pretty idiot proof.
But I run Linux instead of Windows, and software to play Blu Rays on Linux is still harder to find. I've only been using it with DVDs - no problems so far. I only gave it four stars because I haven't tested the Blu Ray playback yet.

This blu ray player would be perfect if it came with longer USB cables. Other than that it works really well and was as easy as plugging it in to get it to work.

Purchased this to take on a trip so I could watch movies. Easy to set up and use. Also USB cables are connected to drive and store on drive it self. So very easy to throw in work bag and off you go.

Doesn't Work as Advertised in Win 8.1

I bought this drive over other brands because of the included Cyberlink software package. It turned out to be a huge mistake. Ater about 15 emails to Cyberlink they finally came back and told me that InstantBurn is not compatible with Windows 8.1. In all the things suggested during the 15 emails, my Win 8.1 machine stopped recognizing the drive. I called Buffalo and they still can't fix the situation. HUGE WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME. STILL HAVEN'T BURNED a single BLU-RAY DISC.
