Does not broil

Wow Huge disapointment - What is that smell?
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First use it filled the whole kitchen with a foul smelling smoke - That smell continues every time the oven is used - Some smell/ smoke is to be expected but it has continued - Toasting / Heat is wildly inconsistent -- Best Buy has a very restrictive return policy - I had to submit an email ticket 21140*** to Calphalon for service, it has been over a week and still no response.

The outside of the oven was very hot
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had several toaster ovens in the past few years catch on fire without any food in them. I was concerned that the outside of this oven became unusually hot to the touch. I did not like the rubber handle that is behind the stainless steel finish.

Really good Oven but POOR chord length
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really excited about this Quartz Heat Countertop Oven. Our previous one has been with us for over 10 years now and was showing signs that it was time to change. I was very well pleased with the Calphalon EXCEPT the power chord is really SHORT. It is about 12 inches shorter than my previous countertop oven which limits the location in the kitchen to place it. We already have a small kitchen and the power outlets are not always in good spots, so it doesn't make any sense to why the power chord would be short. I've had this oven for about 2 weeks now and have somewhat of a good grasp of what it can and can't do. Pros: - Good depth. About 3 inches deeper than my previous oven. I can place more items in there to cook. The purpose of being deep is to fit the Pizza pan that is included. - Several accessories. It comes with Baking Pan, Pizza Pan (mentioned earlier), Dehydrator and Baking racks. - Option settings to cooking. It comes with 11 different settings to use for cooking: Toast, Bagel, Bake, Roast, Broil, Pizza, Cookies, Reheat, Keep Warm, Defrost and Dehydrate. Easy to navigate and use. Along with the option settings are the temperature and timing knobs. - Easy to use. Once you decided on what option to cook, and have the temp and timing, the Oven goes into the Preheating stage which clearly informs you. Neutral: - No clock. Now, I am by nit-picking since the toaster and stove oven have clocks, but I am used to having a clock on every appliance display. This just means one less clock to change on Daylight Savings. Cons: - Again, the power chord length is too short. - Sounds. Once your food is finish, it will sound a beep. But the volume was very low and I could hardly hear it. Overall I am very impressed with this appliance. It was a worthy upgrade to my previous countertop oven and am looking forward to the next 10 years with it.

Great compact oven
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Comes with minimal instructions, but wasn't too hard to figure out how to use. Preheats quickly! I've baked cookies (turned out well), roasted turkey cutlets (cooked in good time), and toasted frozen waffles (crisped up well). I just cooked a frozen pizza tonight. We did Ore-Ida tater tots (yum) in the crisper basket thing and they turned out WONDERFULLY CRISPY! At first I didn't like how the top (and right side) get so warm, but then we found out it's handy -- to warm up dinner plates or keep the first cookies warm. :) It hasn't slipped around on the counter really. You do need to be sure to have some clearance at the sides and top since the outside of the oven does get quite warm. Note that when the timer is done, the oven is done as well. If you're looking for a little oven for two so that you don't have to heat up the regular oven, and like simplicity, consider getting this oven. It's sleek, works well, and is easy to use.

A Great Addition to Our Kitchen
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was a welcome addition to our kitchen. So far, we have used it to cook everything from cookies to toast to fish to pizza and it has never yet failed us. The controls are simple to use and intuitive (though, having to click a button to go from preheat mode to cooking mode seemed a bit odd - easily acquired muscle memory, though). The oven has a solid build and feels like quality. Cleaning it out is also a snap. We would definitely recommend. Also important to know, we had a problem with the first stove that we took home. We contacted the company and they handled the situation seamlessly and with excellent customer service. It is always a great day when you find a company that stands by its product.

The Calphalon Countertop Oven is a Cooking Success
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Now this is a countertop oven! The heating comes from Quartz coils that warm up in a matter of seconds. It has a high tech look that is appealing, but it has more than just looks going for it. This is a serious baking machine! Your limits are contained by only your imagination. The Calphalon Oven comes with a few accessories to help you in your cooking. You get a Baking pan, Pizza pan (12 inch), Dehydrator rack, and a Wire rack that all assist you in your efforts. There is also a tray that slides in underneath the baking pans and racks, that catches all the drips or drops from food. No need to clean the oven, simply pull out the tray and clean it instead. Another great feature of the Calphalon oven is the Convection mode. It helps to evenly heat the top and bottom of food so nothing gets burned. Instead food is crispy, and neither the top nor bottom gets burned. This feature is a main selling point, in my opinion. The LCD display includes the Set Temp, Set Time (hours, minutes, seconds) and all of the possible cook settings. There are 11 different settings for cooking: Toast, Bagel, Bake, Roast, Broil, Pizza, Cookies, Reheat, Keep Warm, Defrost and Dehydrate. That is a lot of options. Just below the LCD display are buttons for the light, Start and Cancel/Off. Looking below those options are the knobs that allow you to choose any of the 11 settings, Time, Temp. Convection is a button is the middle of the top knob and the time and temp are the in the middle of the lower knob. Once you use it couple of times, you can catch on quickly. It is simple to use. So at this point I am ready to use the Calphalon Quartz Heat Countertop Oven for some actual cooking. For my first food was a frozen pizza from the grocery store. Most frozen pizzas are about 12 inches so it wasn’t a hard size to find. I selected the setting of Pizza and turned the knob to the directions that were on the pizza box (Time and Temp). Then, pushed the start button and it began to preheat. Preheating did not take more than a minute or two. I put the frozen pizza on the Calphalon Pizza tray provided and put it in the countertop oven. I pushed the start button again and the pizza started to cook. I wanted a more even temperature in the oven so I pushed the convection button. I didn’t want to burn the bottom of the pizza and wanted the cheese on top to melt evenly with no cool spot in the middle. Most ovens just heat up the outer edge and not the middle. With the Convection part of the Countertop oven working, it warmed the pizza evenly. After the buzzer went off I pulled out the pizza and let it set for a few minutes. I tried a piece and it was crispy on the outside and middle. I was impressed. Next, I thought I would try some French Bread Pizza. Main problem with this pizza is the bread crust gets really hard and the top doesn’t cook thoroughly from my old oven. The Convection Oven worked great, making the crust crispy and the top cooked evenly. I really enjoy the Convection part of the Calphalon Countertop oven. One thing I would say is when using the Countertop oven, be careful because it gets very hot (like most oven do). Before you start cooking, try to move the Countertop oven so you are away from the wall and cabinets. I will say it again, it gets very hot, but that is normal with ovens. When I used the Countertop oven the cabinets did get warm and the wall as well. Nothing happened to the cabinets or wall but just be cautious. I have many more food items I would like to try. The oven heats evenly and doesn’t burn food, settings are easy to use and apply, and this top of the line Calphalon Countertop oven seems to have it all. And I can’t wait to start cooking more things……

Jack of all trades, master of none.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First thing I will touch on is the build quality. The countertop oven has a nice look, wrapped in stainless steel. The exterior of the oven gets very hot and this could be a problem with small children or if you don't have enough counter room to give it plenty of space away from everything. The door has no latch or anything to keep it closed and doesn't actually fully shut. The small gap left when you pull the door up and shut allows some heat to escape while it's cooking or pre-heating. Not the best design. The plastic buttons and knobs feel a bit cheap and probably need to be used gently so they don't break. For cooking, this little oven can do many things, but not as well as a full sized oven. Calphalon claims this pre-heats in seconds, but that's just not true. To heat up to say 400 degrees it takes a few minutes. Maybe if the door would latch shut and seal it would heat up quicker? The included pizza pan works great for the Great Value brand rising crust pizzas. The oven does a great job with these pizzas and I highly recommend them. I found heating up frozen chicken nuggets left some nuggets a bit hotter than others from the same batch cooked. The heating doesn't seem to be extremely even. We've used it for others things like making toast, baking chicken, cookies and homemade lasagna. The countertop oven does many cooking jobs and would be great for somebody with limited space, but a real oven just can't be replaced. I don't know that many would use this in place of say a toaster or a microwave due to it taking longer and having to pre-heat as step one, then set it to start cooking as step two. Most people want to set it and forget it.

Feature Rich Toaster Oven
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This toaster oven is very feature rich, and spacious inside! There is plenty of room to make small cakes, pizzas, and even fries or nuggets with the included basket! All of the accessories included with this oven are a very nice touch as well, it has every pan you will need for sure. The styling on this is very nice, and it will blend well with any kitchen decor. The only complaint I have is that the light will only stay on for a few seconds at a time, if it had an option to stay illuminated longer I would give this oven 5 stars.

Great Oven with many features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Quartz Countertop Oven from Calphalon did a lot of things right. Many of the minor nuances from using my old oven toaster were fixed/improved with this oven. It has made using this oven on a day to day basis much more enjoyable. For starters, there are many quality of life things to list off that they did correctly: - Oven saves your last settings for each preset (toast, oven, etc) so you don't have to re-calibrate again. - There are multiple presets and the two knob design makes it extremely simple to use without an instructions manual. - The oven knows to self shut off when down. It does not continually beep / flash forever letting you know. - Three large buttons to start, stop, and light makes operating the oven much more fluid (I had to search for the start button with my old oven). - When using the bake preset, the oven will self preheat and then you can start the timer that you've set. I can't stress how easy it is to operate this oven. You don't have to waste time pressing buttons multiple times to select your function because you can just twist the knob quickly. There is also a removable tray at the bottom to catch crumbs (I've wrapped mine in foil to make it super easy to clean). As far as how well it bakes your food, well it's about the same as any other countertop oven. If you've only used those cheap tiny toasters before, then prepare to experience a new pleasure in life. I have yet to have inconsistently toasted bread/bagels. And because this oven saves my preset, I don't have to remember where I set it last time. There are not many things to complain about this oven, and even this complaint I'm going to make is minor. The door does not open fully perpendicular to the surface - meaning the handle props the door up just a bit. For some reason, this makes me feel like I'm going to one day accidentally brush my wrist on the edge of the door and burn myself. Overall, I am extremely happy with this countertop oven. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an upgrade to their kitchen.

Great multi-purpose device
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Calphalon - Quartz Heat Countertop Oven - Dark Stainless Steel This high-end, solidly-built Calphalon Quartz Heat Countertop Oven can handle just about anything you can throw at it. It has settings for: • Toast • Bagles • Baking • Roasting • Broiling • Pizza (there’s an included pizza pan) • Cookies • Reheating • Warming • Defrosting, and • Dehydrating When you choose one of the above options, the digital data center automatically displays the recommended temperature settings. The instruction manual, which you download at the Calphalon website, provides recommended temperature ranges and estimated times for each of the available cooking choices. After unpacking, the unit fit comfortably on my kitchen counter under my kitchen cabinets. My wife and I tried a number of the options. We found that making toast took a lot longer than using our traditional toaster, but it certainly does the job for folks who don’t have a toaster. There are options for varying shades of toast (1-7) and the time required ranged from 1:35 minutes to 12:30 minutes. If you’re a hot dog aficionado, you’ll love the way they turn out using the broil option. I must say that it produced some of the best-tasting and juiciest hot dogs I’ve ever had. And baking smaller batches of cookies can be more energy efficient, since one obvious benefit of a toaster oven is that you don’t have to turn on and use your larger oven for small things. And it’s perfect for those who don’t have a toaster, microwave and oven (think small apartments, college dorms, etc.) My only suggestion for improvement would be to include a recipe booklet, either with the unit or online. While it may be there somewhere, I was unable to locate it. In my opinion, that would help make the unit even more valuable. However, even without a recipe booklet, it’s still a great “Swiss Army Knife”, multi-function unit.

A must buy!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit is surprisingly light weight and exactly what I needed. The design is very modern and sleek and also easy to use. It comes with plenty of different racks and trays to make anything that you need. I’ve don’t pizza, sandwiches, toast all sorts of things in here. It does take up a little counter space but, o couldn’t imagine not having it now. Great product!

Make sure you read the instruction
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great little oven but the cons listed below take it down a star. The first con is a devastation to me!!! So, first time use was a casserole. Since I had just put it together, I would put it in the oven while preheating. So I did. I heard it ding and assumed it was at temp and would cook. 5 minutes later I checked and the oven was off. Annoying. So I did it again. Did the same thing. Super annoying. So I decided to read the instructions. Not plug-and-play. Very complicated for a toaster oven. Had to babysit until the preheat was done. We don't eat toast so I cannot attest to how the toast option works. I have only used bake...many times Lets list the cons and pros: Cons- Will NOT fit a regular size frozen pizza Not simply a turn on and go unit Complicated to where you need to be standing there until preheat is over Pros: Cooks nice and even and quick Big window to watch Looks good

Not a good toaster oven
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Already returned to Best Buy. We tried to broil but the max setting is 450 degrees. The reason we purchased was because we liked the color.

Large, sleek and simple oven
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is huge. Not surprising, as it advertises the ability to heat up a full 12" pizza (it does, and does so pretty quickly), but you may not realize how massive Calphalon's Quartz Heat Countertop Oven really is until you open up the box. This can be good or bad, depending on your countertop space and how often you plan on utilizing this machine and its plethora of functions. The oven has a setting for nearly everything you would want to throw into a convection oven or a large toaster oven. From precisely browned toast, to defrosted frozen foods to the aforementioned pizza, this oven does it all. The best part about it is that it does so in just a few clicks of a button and turns of a dial. You spend less time worrying about the food being cooked and more time doing whatever else you need to do. Unlike your regular oven, it shuts off once your set time is completed, saving energy and avoiding overcooking. The oven looks pretty nice and nicely made. Unfortunately, the entire machine gets super hot during usage - walls, glass front, top, everything. If you wanted to stick this into a tight spot in your kitchen, I'd advise against that. Open area for sure. Overall, the oven does a very good job, is easy to operate, and is pretty to look at. It's large and heats up, but that doesn't stop it from getting my full recommendation. Full disclosure, I received this product for my unbiased, honest review.

Worth Every Penny
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Calphalon replaced another countertop oven that I liked a lot. It is better than it in some small but important ways for me. First, it looks awesome. It's well made and everything looks and feels that way. As a countertop oven, it does what you'd expect. It preheats quickly, and far quicker than a full size oven, and the food cooks/toasts, etc. evenly. The things that set it apart for me are small, but you like in everyday or even use every few days. The controls are very intuitive and labeled well. After the initial learning period, they became second nature. My favorite is, and is different than my previous countertop oven, is that when you preheat and set the time that you want to bake, when it finished preheating it flashed the time and when you put the food in and hit start, it then starts the timer. My previous one started the time immediately. So I often ended up putting in the food while preheating or missing time if I weren't nearby to hear the beep that it was heated. Small convenience, but it makes this unit better. This has actually replaced the bigger oven for anything that will fit it in for all these reasons. It comes with a pizza tray and a dehydrating rack. I've never thought to try to dehydrate something and haven't tried yet, but I will. I highly recommend this Calphalon countertop oven.
