Great camera for amateur and professional

I primarily do landscape/nature and wildlife photography. This camera lets me get great, crisp photos at all settings regardless of the lighting conditions. Due to cost of canon lenses I tend to use 3d party lenses (TAMRON & SIGMA extreme telephoto zoom). Despite this, they capture the scene with absolute clarity and crispness on the 7D. The multi shot function (burst mode) is more than adequate for anything in the wild. Color capture is true to life and the scene using correct preprogrammed ISO settings for sun, cloudy days, shade etc. Noise at the hi-ISO range is well within acceptable limits.

After 1 year of intense research, the Canon EOS 7D is a must have. Excellent exposure in Aperture-Priority Mode and other user controlled exposure modes. Less noisy at high ISO. Battery fully charges in less than 2 hours and last about 6 hours with continous shooting. Great at high ISO. Produces razer cut images at fast shutter speed. Less editing required captures detail in color. Not as heavy as I expected. Easy to learn and operate.8 frames per second. AF works perfect on continous shooting. It's costly but worth the bucks. Added images that show detailed settings and results..

After Research, upon research...

I bought the Canon 7d after days of research as to the right camera and lens that would work for all types of photography. I do weddings (needing high ISO levels), birthing sessions (needing fast shutterspeeds), but primarily use it for taking pictures of varying ages of children (needing great focus AND fast shutterspeed), to capture the moments for my clients and of our family. Unfortunately, my camera was stolen, so it was back to the drawing board to find a replacement. After watching fantastic videos online by reviewers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ET0idevzGRE) to decide whether I should "downgrade" I discovered that this reviewer felt strongly that the 7D was a better contender than the 60D OR the coveted 5D Mark ii. He did offer advice in another video that the Nikon D7000 was equal to if not better than the Canon 7D in almost all respects, but did acknowledge that the 7D had a slightly faster response time. So if you aren't loyal to a specific brand... most reviewers are saying the Nikon D7000 is a better bang for your buck. Unfortunately, lenses aren't compatible between the two brands, so I need to stick with something by Canon, since I have a $1.600 lens that was not stolen and clearly would be costly to replace with something comparable through Nikon. Other than that alternative, I have to say I LOVE everything about my 7D and am excited to get it back.

Great Camera!

Love the camera. It was a nice step up from my 40D in every way. Still getting used to all the new features. If you take even a moddest amount of pics, be ready to buy at least a 1TB extra hard drive to store these 30+mb picture files! Movie files are even bigger! my 30gb worth of mem cards fills up very quickly compared to my 40D!
This camera NEEDS "L" series lenses to fully capture its potential. Its more obvious using a non-"L" lens than my 40D. Its hard to use any other lens than my 70-200mm for image quality, but its such a long lens (focal length), thats its not that easy!
Bottom line: If you buy this camera, you're not an amatuer photographer, you're getting semi-serious. You're going to have to back this purchase up with a significant amount of items. More file storage(both for computer and larger/FAST) mem cards, "L" lenses, probably another bag to carry this assuming you kept your old camera.
Overall, its worth it, but take the time to learn it before judging it, and be ready for the extras you'll find yourself needing/wanting!

Though I initially had some mechanical problems with my original copy, Best Buy exchanged with no problems. I decided on the 7D over the 5D Mark II because I do a mix of shooting from HS sports to second shooting weddings and this fits that niche perfectly. Low noise at high ISO, fast frame per second rate and the AWB works much better than the previous 40d and 30d I've owned.

The only reason I gave this camera 4 stars is that the live view is a little slow when you go to take a picture with it on. Other than that this camera is awesome. Make sure that you know how to use a dslr since this one doesn't really have any auto settings other than p. it is a step up from the 60d as it has the same sensor, but has a faster frame rate and more focal points. The only draw back between this and the 60 is that the 7 doesn't have the flip out screen. Keep in mind that both the 60 and 70 have composite(plastic) bodies, where as the 7 is metal and is supposed to have better weather proofing. I chose this camera because I want my student to learn how to use manual settings and its ability to take a hit.

Canon 7D - Canon's Crop Body Wonder

I'm a big canon shooter. This is my 5th canon Body, and i will not lie, the best camera i've ever held in my hands. I've shot with a 5d Mk II, 1d Mk III, and other assortments of Canon and even Nikons, and this camera shines. The noise control is unbelieveable. My second body is a 40D and this thing makes my ISO 1600 look like ISO 400 on a 40D. Great focusing, great camera, just get it if you can afford it!

I decided to upgrade from my trusty T2i and found the 7d at a phenomenal price. I love my T2i and still do very much, however the 7d is a great upgrade in every way. Everything about it is just better. I believe that this is the best crop sensor camera out there. I tested a lot of other DSLR because I was curious what was out there and if I wanted to make any switches, now would be the time as I am giving into plan my "next step" lens purchases. I could go into detail after detail, but that's not really needed. This a prosumer camera. From the build quality to the image quality. Everything about it is simply amazing.

Traded up from a Canon 40D and got more ISO, video, extended battery life and 100% screen view, just to name a few.
The 60D and 70D are plastic and so small that they feel like toys in my hand.

I had an EOS 30 and decided to take the plunge to a just under PRO level. I have had to recall everything I knew about film speed, lighting and exposure to achieve the 'best' pic. It has been a challenge, but I am excited about my results with the best Canon product ever.

I adore my new Canon 7d. It does way more than I had even hoped for. There is a learning curve with it, but I'm excited that I have lots of room to learn and grow in my photography with this camera.
I will never buy from Best Buy again though as their customer service is horrendous!! The return policy stated on their receipts and paperwork is totally not honored. As I own a retail business, I do not have unreal expectations for a return policy. I have spoken to everyone from store level up through supposedly management on one of the items I needed to return. Needless to say, after 4 plus hours of dealing with this, I decided to just keep the item and purchase (from another store) the accessory needed to use the item. All simply to avoid having to further deal with Best Buy!!

Great camera for bird photography once you have mastered the auto focus settings. I have been using other canon slrs but it still took a week or so of experimentation to dial in the settings and to memorize the functions.

Overall it's quite the cats meow of DSLR's . I bought it to do a video shoot and was very pleased with it's performance except for shooting outside in hot locations. As long as you kept it shaded it seemed to run like it should have. This is a solid device that should hold up for a long time. money well spent.
