I tried out both the Canon G7X and the Sony RX100 III. I decided to go with the Canon because of the touchscreen/better control and the much more useful lens. The lens on the G7x is the star here, it's brighter than the sony AND longer. Give you more control over Depth of field and better portrait pictures. The touchscreen on the Canon also make it much easier to navigate/control. And the picture quality is just the best for a camera that fit in my JEAN Pocket. I have a Nikon D5200 DSLR and I tell you what, I find myself leaving my DSLR home a lot now. Unless you're super picky, you will NOT be disappointed with this camera.

    Very Pleased So Far

My requirements for another camera were high resolution, automatic exposure bracketing, raw files, and focal lengths to create HDR images of landscapes, waterfalls, etc. The image quality within the G7X parameters is comparable or better than my EOS 7D and moving from a backpack with lenses to a beltpack while hiking is great. Very pleased with the image stabilization and electronic level as well. Con would be the lack of support by PhotoShop CS5 for the RAW files but Adobe released an update to their DNG converter that will convert RAW to DNG for processing. Not ideal but a path to success. Going from a 7D and similar camera for many years to the G7X is taking some adjusting to the feel of the camera in my hands. Great range from highlights to shadows in attached sample.

I got this camera because I wanted a high quality hand held point and shoot for my YouTube channel. This has been the best choice I have made. The screen that flips makes it easy to see what you are filming when the camera is pointed at you. It connects to my smart phone for remote shooting. It has so many features I can't even list them all. I highly recommend this camera for anyone looking for a high quality point and shoot for every day use. I also love the warranty with Best Buy I never have to worry about my camera because I know it is covered. Check out these photos I took with it on just the preset settings. Was going for a trip to Sequioa and originally in the market for prime lens for landscape shots on my DSLR. After reading reviews and trying out the G7X at the store, I was sold on the quality of photos and the convenience of a point and shoot for family trips. The G7X MARK II came out shortly after this came out but I would still get this over the MARK II.

Great build quality feels solid. Video and Pictures are amazing. Image stabilization with 1080p at 60fps is wonderful. Flip screen is great for vloging. Most You Tubers use this camera because of its video quality and fast auto/touch to focus. The camera is compact and can fit in your pocket with no problem. I highly recommend this camera.

    Rocking camera

This is a small camera with great capabilities. This absolutely ROCKS. It is a tad heavy, it does eat batteries up on video recording, and yes the microphone is in a bad place. Even with all that the photos are great, the videos are amazing, and it is an amazing piece of technology. Well worth the money. Buy a tight fitting case for it if your using it as a pocket camera.

I did a lot of researching before making this purchase, considering this camera was $700, when there were other digital cameras for less than $100 these days. With that in mind, there are a few things that made this camera stand out to me. The weight feel of the camera = The weight of this camera feels pretty solid in the hand, and it feels very high quality. People often say that you won't truly know if you want this camera unless you have held in in your hands. In this case, it was absolutely true. The image quality = The image quality of this camera is pretty amazing for a digital camera. Look up sample pictures and videos. That's what I did and it made my decision pretty easy. It's nice to have something that is compact, and take better pictures than your standard phone camera. The flip up screen = Pretty useful especially in today's world. It helps you take the endless selfies that you like. It's also useful for situations where you want to take shots at a certain angle. Aside from that, probably like everyone else who looked around before making a purchase, I was also deciding whether I should buy this or the competitor. What made me sway to Canon was the touchscreen. The touch screen might not seem like a big feature on a camera, since they're available in many other cheaper alternatives today, but combining it with such a powerful compact digital camera makes it much more convenient. The touchscreen autofocus and auto-shutter are very useful, and I use it most of the time. This is especially useful for those who want convenience and is always on the move. Overall, I think that if you're looking for a camera with these features, It is definitely worth it.

I am the sort of photographer who carries 1 to 3 cameras with me all the time, and I find the GX 7 is easy to include in the mix, thanks to its relatively small and lightweight body. I like the touch screen a lot--it's supremely easy and intuitive to use. The camera's features are fairly sophisticated, and I love the range of the telephoto. I also love how quickly the camera is ready to go once you press the ON button. I bought an extra battery and would advise that, if you are a frequent shooter who might not be able to or remember to recharge the battery often.

I really like how the monitor is flippable, and the camera takes good pictures in dim light environment. This camera is light and easy to carry around than my Sony alpha camera, so I keep it in my bag all the time. Downside would be that this camera drains a lot of battery, because of its huge monitor, especially if you film videos all the time. However, I am still glad that I got this camera on sale!

Absolutely the best vlogging camera that I've ever had!! It has a pop out screen that allows you to see yourself and make sure that you're in focus, properly angled, and know that you're recording. Image quality is truly incredible. I mainly use it for videos, and the quality is incredible for such a smaller camera. Although, the battery life isn't the best, so I highly recommend if you get this camera you purchase extra batteries with it too! The screen on the camera is touch screen and it absolutely works wonders!

    Great Camera For VLOGGING

So, everything about this camera is almost perfect. I mostly use it for video, not stills. You can't beat it for the price. Pros: The flip up screen, full manual features, 1080 video. The quality is great. If you're curious as to how the video looks, you can check out my samples at http://www.youtube.com/brandonaldred But I have ran into a few cons: Battery life. I've had to purchase a total of 2 spare batteries to get me through an entire day of filming...and that's not filming all that much. If you were using it to video all day 4-5 batteries would be needed. Next, the biggest thing that bothered me is that I was at one dusty location and the dust actually got inside the unit, and on the backside of the glass of the lens. I can't wipe the dust off, and it has caused some autofocusing issues. Those two cons though are so minor, that as long as you're not in super dusty areas and have an extra battery or two, it's a great unit. Like I said, for the price, it can't be beat.

I absolutely LOVE this camera! I purchased this the day before I went to Disney World and it literally did all the work for me, I would walk and snap away. Even the night photos without the flash were amazing! I took this out of the box, charged it and it was ready to go. I was shocked on how beautiful, crisp and clear my pictures were. No filter needed, simply gorgeous as is. I LOVE the convenience of selecting the photos I want to save to my phone (through wifi). I was able to use the camera all day at each park without the battery dying which is added bonus. Perfect point and shoot camera!!

I'm a DSLR guy and shoot mostly video, but needed something a little smaller when I can't bring the full rig out. After a lot of research and reading reviews, I decided this was the camera for me. After a few weeks of use I can say that this camera lives up to my expectations. This is as close to a dslr you're going to get in a point and shoot camera. The video is amazing, the photos are superb and the flip up screen is the icing on the cake. If you're in the market for an affordable camera that can do it all, and do it all well? This camera is a no brainier.

This is my third camera in the Canon Powershot series and while this one is definitely more advanced and heavier than the previous models, it remains fairly light and user-friendly. I'm familiar with the Canon digital camera menus, so this was pretty easy for me to learn. Like others before have said, this does eat batteries pretty fast and getting a spare battery should be on the list for new owners. Since I'm a beginner and limiting my photography sessions to around an hour or less at a time or "when something interesting is happening," the batteries haven't been too big of an issue so far. The camera comes with a small booklet that doesn't really cover what all the settings do or what some of the broad settings they do within a suite of specific settings. This camera is more advanced and the booklet tells you where the settings are/ how to get to them and expects you to know what they do. Overall a good camera. I would recommend it to friends.

for lower light, trickier light situation, and faster action i no longer have to shift from my old S95 to the DSLR... this is pretty my retired my DSLR usage except for specific lense effect or when looking for the indrect flash bounce... picture quality is really good even at higher ISO levels. auto focus speed is on par with DSLR... for sure DSLR will be faster but marginal for day to day use compared to the major benefit of portability. i don't really use the wifi bells and whistles. an external flash would have been a nice plus. price for this is very much on the higher scale of point and shoot but the opportunity to capture the moment is priceless. when the kids are all over and the moment is captured it makes the premium price worth every penny... i've had the S95 for about 4yrs and have high confidence level that this G7x can last just as long based on usage so far...

This camera has a 1 inch image sensor for a compact body. It takes great photos with amazing image quality. The Manual mode is a true manual that are similar to the previous models & comes with Wifi, touch screen, & shoots RAW. The body was updated to look very similar to the S series. It no longer has a viewfinder. The 1.8F allows for awesome low light photography. I am very pleased and although the price is steep for a point & shoot I like that its not bulky & that I don't have to carry around extra lenses. This will not replace you DSLR but its a step up from normal point & shoot.

ibdont want to bore you with specs, instead I'll give you a quick assessment based on real world use. I shoot vlogs and use this exclusively for video. The biggest issue I have is the auto focus. It works well - 75% of the time. But if you miss a shot it's super aggravating when it should just work. Second issue and I knew this going in was battery life. However the battery life isn't bad at all. I can shoot hundreds of short clips on 2 batteries - my issue is the indicator is not accurate at all. It'll go from full to blinking red at empty in seconds. Other than that, I love the size and the picture clarity is amazing. It's still a recommended item due to the savings over the Sony which has similar issues. I'd say try it out.

I have been a photographer for more than 20 years. My equipment is all Canon Pro Bodies and L series lenses. Too bulky for quick family gatherings and touristy trips. This G7X is spot on sharp and has served us well for 2 months. Easily packed and carried in pocket and the custom lather case purchased specifically from Canon is super slick and protective.

I bought this camera for both still photography as well as video. In normal lighting, I believe the images will equal any DSLR on the market today. As ISO goes past 1600, the quality does fall slightly but ISO at 3200 is still very usable. The fast lens makes it possible to shoot in low light while keeping the ISO low and the shutter speed high. To me, that's the selling point of this camera. Trying to photograph your kids in typical gym lighting isn't easy with lenses that are slow (typical DSLR kit lenses) or with cameras with small sensors that need to go to high ISO settings. The Dynamic Range correct and Shadow correct work exceptionally well. The image stabilization is very effective on the camera as well. Video quality is excellent (MP4 at 35 Mbps) except for the mediocre built in microphones which could be improved. For a couple of videos that I took, I had to post process by raising the volume and applying some audio EQ to give the sound a much fuller range. Other than my gripe with the built in mics, this is an exceptional product.
