Canon RF50mm F1.8 STM Standard Prime Len

This compact and lightweight lens punches well above its weight, especially when paired with EOS R-Series mirrorless cameras. What makes this lens stand out is its wide f/1.8 aperture, which allows for beautifully shallow depth of field and smooth background blur (bokeh). It effortlessly isolates the subject and creates that professional, dreamy look that makes portraits pop. The sharpness is impressive—images come out crisp and detailed even when shot wide open.

I used to own a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens, and a few years ago I sold it, figuring I had another 50mm and wouldn't need it. I've come to realise that this lens, with what is likely the best price/performance ratio of any lens ever made by anyone, is just too good to be without. It's small and light, and that makes it easy to carry around, even attached to a big DSLR such as the 5D Mk IV. Even with a lens hood (I recommend the excellent and inexpensive Pro Optic ES-68), it fits in my smallest camera bag and is easy to manage. The optics are superb, pin-sharp across almost the entire aperture range. No noticeable fall-off, except when the lens is wide open. Nice bokeh at wide apertures. With f/1.8 it's able to handle low-light situations well. And, of course, it is made for a full-frame DSLR, but works fine on crop sensors. The plastic construction is the only drawback, and that's really not an issue unless you are rough with the lens. The AF/MF switch is a little harder to find than on larger lenses, but, again, not much of an issue. Autofocus is quick and accurate. All in all, if you have a Canon EOS camera, you should have this lens in your kit. The price right and it's a fabulous little lens for walking around and street photography.

The RF 50mm has quickly become my go-to lens—I use it all the time. Even though it’s considered an entry-level lens, it holds its own alongside my premium Canon RF lenses. The image quality is sharp, the autofocus is snappy, and the bokeh is smooth and pleasing. One of the neat features is the ability to customize the control ring to switch between autofocus and manual settings, giving it added versatility. It’s lightweight, fast, and incredibly reliable—an essential addition to any Canon shooter’s kit.

Just purchased this lens to go with the R5 and must say I'm Impressed! The RF version of the Nifty Fifty is a game changer. Super portable, perfect bokeh, good in low light, and crazy fast auto-focus. The RF lenses are very expensive so paired with a 24-105, this lens helps complete my lens set on a budget.

Almost Perfect PRIME LENS, but no IS!

This is my new favorite prime lens both for portrait photography and on-tripod videography! This is a very bright and fast lens with f/1.8 fixed aperture. It is feature-packed with STM for quite continuous auto-focus on videos, there is a switch between manual focusing function or operating camera function when using the focus ring, well-built a much better quality than the earlier EF lens version and has a wide open f/1.8 aperture for low light conditions. A few things that you need to know before buying; its not weather-proof, it doesn't have IS ( image stabilization), Overall a great beginner lens for novice or pro photographers and videographers on a budget and wants quality photos and videos.

This lens gets you more than you would expect from a $200 prime. I think picture quality wise it’s on par with my old canon 50mm 1.4, obviously it’s 1.8 but I think it’s sharper and focuses better than the ef 1.4 model. It’s extremely small, compact, and light weight. I toss it in my bag when I go hiking, I mostly shoot landscapes but I like having the lightweight 50mm because I don’t notice the added weight and it barefoot takes up any space. Great for portraits on the go and I’ve gotten some rather sharp landscapes as well. This is probably the best value lens there is out there. It also has the control ring rather than a focus ring. I think maybe you can manual focus but I only use at with this lens so I’m not sure. It’s nice to have the control ring for aperture or iso though.

The first thing to like is the cost. While normally $199, I got it for $169. It does not get better than that for what the lens can do. This little 50mm RF lens for me is every bit as good as the f/1.8 EF version that I have for my DSLR 7D system. Its build actually seems a little better. Performance wise, the RF version is doing just as great in low light settings, and with the high ISO quality of the new mirrorless cameras, its clarity seems even better, and you are not paying the price of the f/1.2. Overall, it is one of my favorite lenses.

This is one of the best lens purchases I've ever made. The price is so reasonable, the lens is so tiny, and the sharpness of the glass and quality is phenomenal. Whenever I use this lens the photos are excellent. I wish Canon made more of these reasonable lenses! Also, Best Buy shipped this right away and it came within just 2 days.
