I am very new to the photography game. The 50mm is a great entry level lens. I love the quality of my photos and videos. Furthermore, it is easy to attach and detach from my camera. Canon provides a lot of covers to protect the lens from any damage. Very good purchase!

This lens is a great value for the money. The 1.8 maximum aperture is wide enough me and costs a fraction of the RF 1.4L. Images have excellent detail. Auto focusing is extremely fast. I only gave 3 stars because I do a lot of manual focusing and this is where improvement is needed. Unlike other lenses that have a separate manual focusing ring this lens uses the control ring for electronic manual focus. You have to enable manual focusing in the menu and set AF mode to One Shot. Once set up correctly you can manual focus using the control ring while pressing the shutter release half way. When manual focusing you feel vibration in the lens. The vibration can be annoying. I would like to see Canon add a manual focus ring to this lens.

This is really a great Canon prime lens. The STM motor focuses fast and the pictures are great. I highly recommend this lens, and the price is awesome for this 1.8 lens. Nice background blur as well. The 1.2 is nearly ten times the price, and I can barely tell the difference in the pictures (except in very low light).

The nifty fifty is back and better than ever! Compared to the EF version, the build quality is way nicer. The lens feels good in your hand while still being light for a great walk around option. As you’d expect, focus is a little slow compared to the faster 50mm options, but still faster (and quieter) than the EF version of this. Focus hunting has been reduced as well from the EF version with this lens nailing focus more often, even wide open. At all aperture ranges the lens is sharp, even wide open, but I notice the closer you get to 1.8 you’ll start to see a bit more chromatic aberration. Overall highly recommend for the price! 4/5 just due to the CA and slower / missed focusing in low light. (Again, still way better than original nifty)

Considering the price, this lens is actually pretty good. Since the lens was so much cheaper than other lenses, I thought it may not be all that great; but I’m impressed. An L glass lens would probably be a lot better, but the pictures do come out great and you can’t beat the price. The build quality of the lens seems fairly cheap, but I’d imagine if you take care of your stuff in general then it’ll be fine.
If you’re looking for a decent cheap lens, I’d definitely recommend.

I bought this lens for the lower aperture when shooting bands or in other situations indoors, where I cannot use a flash. It has worked well so far and it is nice and little so it is easy to add to my bag.

For the price point this is an amazing starter and intermediate lens without spending 1k+ on the 1.2 version. The most versatile prime lens you could own and ultra compact, Sharp and beautiful images produced by it, definitely worth adding to your kit.

Love the lens better than the camera it attaches to. This lens was a game-changer for my photos and videos. It makes everything look professional and works great in low-light environments.

Very fast focusing especially when paired with an rf mount camera body. Takes full advantage of the new in-body stabilization on the r5/r6. STM still a bit behind USM and Nano USM in terms of precision and makes a small amount of noise in video but for a tenth of the price, it can't be beat!
