"Theyre all gonna laugh at" ...THIS
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok ok, maybe the title of my review is a lil unfair. This certainly isnt the best remake out there, but it sure beats all those Michael Bay abominations we've been getting lately. That being said, this remake seems rather unnecessary. Its a fun film, but doesnt really bring anything new to table. Brian DePalma's original was str8 up horror! This felt more like an after school special. I know that at its core, Carrie has always been a coming of age story -- and a WOMEN'S one to be more specific -- but I cant help but feel that this version came off as too much of a chick flick. Maybe its the result of having a female in the director's chair, I dont know. But also Carrie discovering her powers seemed much more stylized here, and they tried to make it look a little too "cool". Instead of the freakshow display that was DePalmas masterpiece. I read another review for this once and they summed it up pretty good so Ill repeat what they said.... "It feels kinda X Men-ish" lol Anyway its a solid film, tightly paced, finely acted. Julianna Moore in ANYTHING just adds an instant credibility and class, so thats always good. Plus Chloe Moretz is a great up and coming actress. Nice job on her part. Although I do believe she was way too beautiful to play such an oddball character. What I most liked about this DVD is that I got it a couple of weeks ago and it was in the front of the store on display with other titles for only $2.99 !!!! CANT BEAT THAT

3/5 (Not a bad effort)
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.'Carrie' was just another remake to me at first glance. Director Kimberly Pierce was someone whom I thought would never take on a task such as this, however I now feel that without her professional eye for the camera, this second remake of the Stephen King story (the first being in 2002) fared much better than the more recent remakes and makes for a good watch that you'll most likely forget once you shut it off. The actors in the film do very good work here, with Julianne Moore's Margaret White standing out among the others. Pierce also brings a fresh visual take to the story as well, making for quite a pretty film. Where 'Carrie' falls is that they really don't bring anything new. This is almost the exact same film as the Brian De Palma classic, but with little changes such as the idea of cyberbullying being incorporated within. While this does make the 'mean-girls' of the film much more cruel than the original film, it does little to change the film other than give it a modern coat of paint. Overall, it could've been much much worse, and while that's not saying much I still enjoyed 'Carrie' and it's a much more frequent watch in my remake shelf than others. Worth a rental if you're not sure.

Excellent movie; wish it had commentary.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I cannot think of a more exciting actress to have take on the leading role for a Carrie remake than Chloë Grace Moretz. As with every other film I have seen her take on, she provides an excellent presence on the screen and a very gifted ability to become her character both in terms of vulnerability and brutality. She is truly an actress that movie-lovers would be well advised to to keep an eye on as she continues to make films and "make" films (meaning make films worth watching and owning, that otherwise may not be). For those who are fans of Julianne Moore, this film is a must-have, as I would venture her role as Carrie's mother to be her most powerful and entertaining role to date. I have never seen her behave as she does in any other movie. This a truly unique role for her, from what I have seen of her, and she nails it. While I enjoyed the Making of Carrie in the DVD extras, I was disappointed that there was no running DVD commentary provided.

Excellent remake of a horror classic
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first thing any fan has to do is accept this remake on its own merits, because it is actually well done and, while not as dynamic as the original De Palma version, stands capably beside the original. The remake brings in more from the King novel, a plus, but seems reticent to go to places De Palma did - the locker room nudity, for example, is tame, too tame, compared to the original, which is distracting. The prom and town burn-up, however, is more exciting and horrific in the remake. While I think Spacek gave one of the 10 best performances by an actress ever, Moretz is excellent as well; it's a different Carrie but wonderful in the differences. It's hard to top the De Palma, but I think Pierce's version comes reasonably close at least to equaling it.

A Pretty Solid Movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't believe this movie holds a candle to the Brian DePalma 70's adaptation of the Stephen King novel but it has pretty darn good. One of the biggest problems that ties the hands of the director and producer of the remake is holding back on the source material in order to get a PG-13. Oh well. And Chloë Grace Moretz is a great young actress.

Nice update to a classic movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie was basically an identical remake of the 1976 Brian DePalma film. Some scenes are word-for-word from the original. However, the acting in the original Carrie was much more effective. Piper Laurie is the best religion-driven mother I have ever seen on screen. And Sissy Spacek as Carrie, does an A+ job at playing an outcast who is ridiculed. This version lacks a lot of the intensity and suspense of the orignal. And sometimes the acting feels forced. But still a decent remake.

CARRIE REMAKE
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was one of the better horror movie remakes out there today. Chloe had some pretty big shoes to fill for this role and she pulled it off quite nicely. They definitely pushed it in a new direction focusing on Carrie enjoying using her new powers. Something was missing and I cant put my finger on it but it just didn't live up to the original, all though I still highly recommend this for your collection. Vey enjoyable.

One of the few great remakes
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A 70's classic horror movie remake, but does not stray much off the original script. Includes a few modern updates that fit in nicely but doesn't try to get too off track. Good choice in selecting the main character actors, they play their roles very well. If you didn't enjoy the original Carrie, you will not like this one. But if you're like me and really loved the original, then this is a must have.

Not quite the original
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So the original Carrie as well as the book was always very interesting to me. The original movie made you feel bad for her but then the end result felt kind of lax. (Good effects for the time) but compared to the book you wanted to see her go all out. With the remake coming i had higher hopes Effects wise, cause god knows story wise they are always less superior. (Seriously, how can you make something that has already been made or based off of something good....less good?) anyway, it started off ok but the over acting on carries part made me feel like she was asking for the torment. The extra focus on her mother kind of took away from a bit of the psychic power aspects. The final part was a bit better but i still felt like it was rushed. They seemed to focus too much on the SFX instead of the character building. The effects were awesome but the characters were very bland. The original had better characters so you felt a little more. This one not so much...still a good watch to see the retelling of the same story with updated graphics.

Great update of a classic
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am skeptical of remakes. I am more skeptic when a classic is remade. I am even more skeptical when a horror movie classic is remade. I didn't think there was anything in Carrie needed to be updated but this movie works very well. They found the right actresses and brought the plot into the new millennium. If you liked the original, you'll enjoy this one as well.

Better than most remakes
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Carrie was better than I was expecting, especially since I loved the original. The updates to the film were sometimes refreshing but other times they were kind of cheesy. The finale definitely benefited from technological updates and some of the death scenes were interesting. Overall, this movie delivered exactly what you expect, a good time without a lot of thinking.

Nice update to the classic movie!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a huge fan of the original King story and film and was very concerned that this retelling would miss the mark by a great deal. Remakes either are well done or very poor. This was, I'm happy to say a very enjoyable movie. Enough slight changes from the original to be fresh and keeping your interest. The acting and effects are well played. Watch and enjoy!

Remake of the 1976 movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As remakes from Hollywood goes .. this one was good. Enjoyed both Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore in the film. I was glad that they did not get Sissy Spacek to play the mother in the remake. Think that would have been a poor move by Hollywood. I am still a BIG fan of the 1976 film .. but really enjoyed the 2013 remake of Carrie. You will too.

Not a classic, but worth a watch...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Some people today may not be able to relate to the original film that came out in the 70's, so for a new generation there's this version wich is an interesting movie to watch & the horror is pretty good. There's a good set of extras & you can see one on YouTube, look for Coffee Shop Surprise.

Very Enjoyable
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very enjoyable, I actually like it a little better than the original. I think Chloe Grace Moretz is a great up and coming actress. Basically the same plot as original movie as it is based on the Stephen King novel, but this movie is updated to be more modern with cyber-bullying and such. Extras are interesting to watch as well.

Blue ray disc is great!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although a remake of the same movie. It was redone quite well sticking more to the original as written by Stephen King. Chloe Grace Moritz, also stared in Let Me In and appeared in Dark Shadows, is excellent as Carrie. Julianne More is an amazing actress and her portrayal as Mrs. White (Carries Mother ) is well played.

Remake of Carrie makes you appreciate your mother.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Though Carrie is suppose to be the main character, Julianne Moore steals the show as the crazy obsessed mother. Chloe does a good job as Carrie. And when Carrie gets mad, all heck breaks lose. Of course, the effect are great. This was Stephen Kings first novel.
