Customers admire the fun gameplay and adorable amiibo figure in the Chibi-Robo Zip Lash bundle, often citing the game's affordability. While some found the level selection system unconventional and the controls needed adjustment, many enjoyed the game's overall fun factor, especially for younger players.

It’s a fun game, it just takes a minute to get into it as it slowly and seems to progressively get more challenging depending on how “well” you play the game. Also it was about impossible to pass is up. A brand new game, with an Amiibo, and it all looking pretty cool for under ten dollars.

I bought Chibi-Robo: Zip-Lash with the bundled amiibo for the Nintendo 3DS since I am a fan of the series, and since this was the only way I could get the Chibi-Robo amiibo, I picked this version. I haven't tried using any of the amiibo functionality, but I got it mostly as a cool Chibi-Robo figure, which it does very well.
The game itself is good, a solid platformer, but could have been better. Chibi-Robo has always been an under-the-radar game in the US it seems. I don't think many played the original which stood out with it's story and take on a tiny robot meant to help keep a family's house clean. This game is quite different.
It's a standard 2.5D (3D graphics, but 2D sidescrolling) platformer that has Chibi-Robo trying to stop alien invaders while using his power-cord tail to traverse levels. The graphics are good, with a special mention to the boss character designs which I thought were cool and original-looking.
This is pretty close to a Kirby title for the most readily-available comparison. It's an easy game with collectibles on each level, but it's pretty easy to find them all on a first run-through of a level. There are checkpoints and other things you can buy with you coins you collect through play to help you (like saving you from a one-time fall), but because of the easiness, I haven't had to use any.
I'd say what I dislike most is the Destination Wheel you have to spin to get to the next level of whichever world you are in the game. After finishing a course, you hit an alien ship with the cord and depending on which you hit, you can have 1-3 tries to spin this wheel. On the wheel, it could potentially take you to the next level, or two levels ahead, or more. It makes it difficult to get to specific levels sometimes since you have to complete them all in order to get to the boss battle of the world. This also makes it so you have to replay levels sometimes just to get to the end to have another chance to spin that wheel. Thankfully, you can visit stages as you like without the wheel after beating the boss.
There's also some weird product placement in this game in snacks that you find throughout and deliver to toys who request them in each world. Doesn't really get in the way of the game, but can be eye-roll inducing picking up Mentos or PEZ candies.
Overall I think it's a fun game, with solid mechanics, good visuals, and well-written music--despite not being very challenging. It's not breaking the mold, and some questionable features like the destination wheel hold it back a bit, but I still enjoy the game.

A Cute Figure and a Decent Platformer

First of all, the amiibo figure looks very nice. Chibi-Robo has a metallic sheen and his plug feels like actual rubber. Bonus points from me. As for the game, it's a pretty fun platformer. Exploration is encouraged and although Chibi-Robo's battery life is constantly decreasing throughout the level, I never felt rushed. One major complaint is that level selection is decided by a roulette. This means that you will end up replaying some levels you have already completed. To be honest, this method of level selection feels like a way of artificially padding out the length of the game. Nonetheless, If you don't mind replaying a few levels then you will probably enjoy your time with Chibi-Robo Zip Lash.

This is a fun, little platformer. Graphically, it looks rather nice for a 3DS game although it's not particularly detailed. It works well with the screen's low resolution. The music is nice although most stages in each world have the same track. Each world has 6 stages and a boss stage. You have to beat the six stages to get to the boss, but after each stage, you must spin a wheel to determine where you must go next. The wheel is rather pointless, but it's EXTREMELY easy to get the number you want so it shouldn't cause frustration. Each stage has a few collectibles to find, and there's a baby alien rescue sidequest you can do in most stages after having completed it once.
The only problems I had with the game is the long loading cutscene when moving between any stage and the slow, unskippable dialogue/scene that repeats every time you talk to an NPC or scan an amiibo. Speaking of amiibo, the Chibi one unlocks a capsule machine that lets you buy figurines at random and other amiibo unlock figurines of Chibi in poses of those characters (not necessarily the pose of the amiibo though).

Fun platformer with a frustrating level progression (think Wheel of Fortune after completing a level) but still super fun. Completely different than the original Chibi Robo, the developers have redesigned gameplay. I purchased the edition with the amiibo, and with the Best Buy Gamer's club 20% off new purchases it was like getting the amiibo for free! Would recommend both the game and Gamer's Club for anyone who still appreciates physical copies of games. $30 for 3 years paid for itself with just the PIP Boy Edition of Fallout 4 (that I'm picking up at the release tonight!).

This game is actually better than I expected it would be. Although it hasn't been reviewed particularly well professionally, I think it's a fun game and a solid platformer. You play as chibi-robo, a tiny robot, and use your power cord to break blocks, fight enemies, and attach to grapple points to traverse the environment. It starts out easy, but becomes more difficult over time as it requires quicker and better planned responses to the environment. The amiibo integration is cool - you use it to store your scores, become a super chibi-robo, and activate a gashapon capsule toy minigame where you can collect figures. However, it's a little annoying because for some reason you can't read and write to the amiibo at the same time, requiring you to read the amiibo, remove it, then replace it to write to it. The other annoyance is that when you beat a level the next level you go to is chosen based on what number you spin on a wheel, so you can end up going back to another level you've already beaten and have to beat it again. You can easily influence the wheel by spending coins, but it seems like a pretty pointless design. Overall it's a very fun game that I'd recommend and will definitely play through, but probably won't replay in the future.

Chibi Robo is far from perfect. However it has its charms. A simple
puzzle platformer. The game has a very cute style, only flawed with a few design choices.
The Amiibo is a nice bonus.
PROS
-cute design
-entertaining gameplay
-collectibles adds replay value
CONS
-controls feel stiff
-poor vehicle controls
-awkward stage select

Better Game Than I Thought

This game has a lot of charm. Some aspects remind me of Bionic Commando from the NES. Collecting snacks reminds me of Pikmin 2. Tootsie Rolls and Pez instead of Duracell batteries and 7-Up bottle caps. I like the added Amiibo figure for only $10 more too. Great platformer with some unique flair. Pick this up before it's gone.

This is a fun platformer with solid gameplay, good level design, and an overall charming personality. It has a few flaws (like the level select mechanic), but there's more to like than to dislike in this one. I'd definitely recommend it to fans of sidescrollers and/or adorable little adventures.

Most people will tell you they got the game for the amiibo and they wouldn't be wrong for doing so, as the amiibo is really cool and only available through the bundle. The game itself is a fun platformer with cute costumes and tons of secrets and completion medals to earn, which means you'll be replaying levels. It's not the most exciting game however, controls are clunky, you can't just pick to play a level as you like, and the game is really easy. If the game was simply harder and there was an easier way to control the zip lash then the game would get 5/5, because it's a very unique platformer overall. Unless you like the amiibo or a laid back, easy platformer game don't buy it.

The Chibi Robo amiibo that came with the game is beautiful. It is one of the best amiibo created, I think.
The game is a slightly above-average platformer. Definitely a fun time, but I am not sure how it will hold up.

wasn't so sure how I'd feel about this game given the reviews. While I loved Chibi-Robo on the Cube back in the day, I wasn't as impressed with the DS game. So I went in with a bit skepticism and actually came away rather pleased after playing for an hour. So here are my initial thoughts:
At its core, Zip Lash is a platforming game, more akin to a Kirby or Mario title, or perhaps the new Yoshi Woolly World coming out soon, so its gameplay is different from both the Cube and DS games. Where in those games you had 3D sandboxes to explore and interact with, this game is a platformer where you move left to right, which should be a genre any Nintendo fan is familiar with, and it's likely the reason why Nintendo decided to go this route. While that may be disappointing to fans of Chibi's prior outings, don't let it sour you on this game, because what is here is a charming, cute, and mechanically tight, platforming game that fans of the genre will undoubtedly enjoy. While Chibi-Robo feels different to control than Mario or Kirby, the mechanics are precise and polished, which is a necessity in a platforming game. The Zip Lash is also really fun to play around with, and I get a little bit of a Bionic Commando feel at times.

I bought this bundle which included the game and amiibo figurine. I had never played the Chibi Robo games before, but it is really a lot of fun - very reminiscent of the Mario games. It's a great deal for both the game and amiibo figure. Highly recommended.

The idea and mechanics of the game are fun, but it gets really repetitive after the first world. Also, the game is pretty slow and the controls aren't always responsive and it forces you to replay levels because of the badly designed world map. It's nice that it has amiibo support, but it could have been better since the amiibo doesn't do much.
