One of the best surround sound headphones I've ever owned. Positional sound was incredible in Call of Duty. The issue I had (like many others) is the microphone volume is incredibly low. In Discord and Teamspeak, other people in the channel had to turn the volume boost up to 200% on my name to get me to a quiet level they could hear if no one else was talking. In windows sound test for microphones, The best I could get the microphone to register without screaming into it, just talking in a loud voice like I was talking to a room full of people, was between 3 and 6% on 4 different tests. I went to the Corsair website forums looking for a solution, updated they iCue software, checked all my windows settings (mic boost to 100%) and that was the best I could do. It's a shame because they are awesome sounding headphones and I love Corsair products. Use their keyboard, mouse, memory and some fans in my computer builds for myself and friends. This is a software issue (iCue) and has evidently been going on for a while (a couple years) per the dates on some of the posts I saw and with no solution in sight, I'm returning them and purchasing a HyperX Cloud 2 headset for the same price.

This is the first headset that I’ve tried from Corsair, and so far I’ve been pretty impressed with its comfort, performance, and features. The headset uses a lot of lightweight plastic in its construction but that seems to be intentional to offset the weight of the headphones which are actually quite heavy in the hand. The only parts that appear to be metal are the hinges and sliders in the internal headband. Still, the headphones feel pretty durable and can handle some twisting and flex with zero creaking. The expansion capability of this headset is very broad with 9 levels for adjustment on each side, so it’s fairly unlikely that anyone will find these to be too tight. The contoured shape of the headband and thick cushioning on the earpads and bottom of the headband provide enough comfort that 1, it doesn’t put a lot of pressure on the sides of your head and 2, the weight is distributed and doesn’t actually feel that heavy once you’re wearing it. The microfiber mesh on the earpads is also breathable and when combined with the plush low-density memory foam and large contoured ear cavities makes wearing these for hours on end a pleasant experience with little fatigue. I will say, though, that I’m not a fan of the glossy plastic on the exterior of the earcups because it tends to attract dust and fingerprints easily. Also, it can pick up micro-scratches and won’t look as nice once that happens. That said, I do like that the earcups swivel 90 degrees and can fold flat, which makes them a bit easier to wear around your neck when not in use. All the controls exist on the left earpiece which include the power button, mic mute button, volume control, and USB charging port. I thought it was clever that a short press of the mute button would switch off the mic while a long press could toggle on/off sidetone input (listening to your mic input through the headset). You also have the option of muting the mic by simply swiveling the microphone to the up/vertical position. Just note that if you manually muted the mic, folding it back down to the horizontal position automatically switches it back on. The mic boom arm itself is flexible and holds the position that you put it in without permanently deforming, so you can repeatedly position it as close to or as far away from your mouth as needed. I was a bit surprised at how large the wireless USB receiver dongle was though, thankfully, the width of it gives you just enough clearance to still be able to use an adjacent USB port. The low latency 2.4 GHz wireless performance of the receiver was excellent and I noticed no lag, stutters, or delay from the audio when gaming, nor when using the headphones to watch movies and video on my computer. The headset is also compatible with the PS4, but stereo only sans 7.1 surround. The internal battery reliably lasts all day and can run about 16 hours on a full charge depending on listening volume level and whether or not you have the RGB lights active. You can view the exact charge level percentage of the headset in the iCue app by checking the device’s settings. However, if you want to use the headphones while plugged in and charging, you still need to have the wireless USB dongle plugged in, potentially taking up two USB ports on your computer. There’s also no Bluetooth connectivity nor 3.5mm input cable option, so you won’t have compatibility with other consoles and devices that use AUX output either. Short pressing the volume jog key cycles through five EQ presets, and you can create your own custom profiles, though you’ll have to select your top five and remember the "number" of the setting as that is what is announced as you cycle through them. Surround sound can be turned on in the iCue software or toggled by pressing and holding the volume jogger. In general, I found that in surround sound mode the volume was a bit boosted and sounds were more immersive allowing me to reliably determine directionality, whether a sound was coming from in front, behind, or to the sides. There was also fairly good depth perception to hint at how far away sounds were from the listener giving the sense of a 3D environment. As for sound quality I found the listening experience to be really pleasant with present mid-ranges and adequate bass, though the upper ranges tended to sound a little thin without EQ adjustments. Even though these are closed back headphones because the ear cushions are mesh, you don’t get a lot of isolation and external sounds and noise bleed can be a minor issue. The audio from the microphone is ok, but not amazing. While there isn’t a lot of distortion, your voice will sound somewhat compressed, like speaking through a small box and artifacts are occasionally present, especially if you bump up the gain. Since it’s an omnidirectional mic, I did notice a little bit of background noise and hiss in the feed too, but this can be somewhat mitigated by using the included foam wind screen. The mic is fine for gaming and Discord, but I wouldn’t necessarily use it for video voiceovers because the levels are quite low, so it can sound soft. Overall, I think the Corsair Void Elite is a solid headphone in the gamer space that offers good audio quality, does so wirelessly, has a comfortable fit for me and decent battery life. Mic audio could be a bit better but is usable, and the RGB options are cool, but you don’t really see them when you’re wearing the headphones anyway.

The Corsair Void RGB Elite Wireless Headset is a nice addition to anyone’s setup for a variety of reasons. Let’s start with what’s in the box. You have the headset taking up the bulk of the space. It’s packed securely and covered in plastic wrap for protection. Accompanying the headset in the box, there is a charging cable, USB dongle for transmitting, a mic windscreen, and a manual. On first glance, this headset has some size to it and it even feels a little heavy to hold. There are Corsair logos on each ear that light up and make it look nice. There is also a light strip around the mic that plays a role as well. I’ll dive in to that in a little bit. There are also 4 key items on the left ear piece. Two of those are buttons to control the power as well as the mute button for the mic. They reside close to the middle and make sound when activated. On the bottom of the earpiece, there is a toggle for the volume and the charging port. There is also an LED indicator next to the charging port to let you know what status you are in. From a functionality standpoint, the sound is pretty good. I am not an audiophile, but I have used many different earbuds/headsets for various reasons and the VOID RGB Elite WIreless can hold its own. I found the 7.1 surround sound to be crisp and if you download the iCue software, you can even use the equalizer to adjust it for different audio needs. I thought it was acceptable just out the box though. Returning to the mic, it does the job. Nobody had issues when I was communicating so that is nice. As I mentioned previously, there is a light strip around the mic. When it is red, it means that the mic is not on. You can control that with the button on the earpiece or by just turning the mic to the upright position. I think that is a very nice feature. As some have mentioned, the USB dongle is rather large. However, it fits nicely in any USB slot on your PC, PS4, or possible anything with a USB adapter. Yes, it would be nice if it had a 3.5mm connection or Bluetooth option, but you told what connection options you have right on the box. Some might also consider the size a negative, but it actually feels a lot lighter. I think the microfiber mesh and memory foam ear pads help there. I have worn these for as much as 2+ consecutive hours and they haven’t bothered me at all. While not completely perfect, I think the Corsair VOID RGB Elite Wireless headset would be a nice option for just about any gamer from beginner to the most experienced. They can get their kicks tinkering in the iCue software for their preferred sound or color desires, or they can leave everything stock and do just fine. Some may want the Bluetooth or 3.5mm connection options, but it’s not necessary when it performs like this. I look forward to continually testing the 16 hour battery life to its fullest and the 40 foot range from time to time when I am walking around watching something. Happy gaming and video watching!

    ## Design The first thing I noticed about the Corsair Void RGB Elite Wireless headset is that it has some weight to it! It’s not overly heavy, but enough that your neck may get fatigued after wearing it for a couple hours. I also felt like it might fall off my head if I leaned too far forward, but it doesn’t unless I start shaking my head violently in a fit of rage. The small Corsair logo on both sides of the earphones light up and cycle through a rainbow of LED colors, but other than that, there are not many lighting effects to be seen. If you don’t like the rainbow pattern, you can use the iCue software to set a single color or a different effect (such as pulse). The microphone flips up (and automatically mutes) and down (to automatically unmute) and can be adjusted as it has some bend to it. A small red LED on the end lets you know when it is muted, as well as a tone or voice prompt (also configurable via the iCue software). There are two buttons on the headphones: the power button and a mute button. There is also a job dial for adjusting the volume as well as a Micro USB charging port. ## Sound Quality The headset has great sound quality with strong bass so you can really feel those in-game explosions! There are several EQs that can be set via the iCue software, although I found the default settings to be fine. Microphone performance also seems great as I hear my voice comes through crystal clear, although it could be a smidge louder. ## Features Wireless: The Wireless USB dongle seems to have decent range as I can walk into another room with just a little bit of breakup. Connecting the dongle to my Windows 10 computer automatically detected and installed the basic drivers without needing to install the iCue software (although, you get more customization options with iCue). I tried plugging the dongle into the Nintendo Switch’s dock, but unfortunately it was not detected (nor is it advertised to work with the Switch). iCue Software: Although the headphones will work without the software, iCue allows you to adjust the lighting effects as well as adjust the EQ settings and update the firmware. ## Battery Life If you turn off the LED lighting with the iCue software, you can get up to 16 hours between charges. Since the battery has no “memory effect,” you can charge the headphones between gaming sessions (before the batteries are completed depleted).
