I’ve never had a toaster that you did not have a handle to get the toast to cook. Seems to work ok. Sometimes you have to do the toast twice to get the color you want

Why is it that in this age of technological greatness premium companies like Cuisinart can't build a great toaster is just beyond me. Case in point, this beautiful piece of performance art just doesn't deliver the stellar performance that one should expect at this price point. I love the look of the unit and the very cool automatic lowering and raising of the bread, but I most often have to toast the bread at least twice, even at the highest (#7) setting, to get anything that could be called toast. A quick peak inside during the toasting cycle shows that only certain parts of the wire grid are even glowing. No wonder the performance is mediocre. I haven't returned the unit yet because I keep hoping that the performance may improve after the "break in" period but, so far, not. It probably will have to be returned. Too bad, it was such a great conversation piece during the holidays with friends and family lining up to watch our "Starship Enterprise" toaster do its thing! Perhaps the next unit might be a keeper!
