Amazing game to usher in the new decade of gaming!

You should brace up for a hybrid of GoW, 300(the PSP game) and Demon's Soul kinda game... The over-all atmosphere is immersive albeit it looks cartoonish for the most part. The characters were sort of stripped of "grim-ness" maybe to appeal more to younger audiences and add a lightened ambience in the otherwise brutal gameplay. Speaking of that, the controls are easy to learn and combos do not take a while to learn. That makes this game very engaging and entertaining (so far)...HACK and SLASH is the key element in the gameplay (button mashing,eh?). So that means this aspect of the game makes up for the slightly disappointing graphics element as I mentioned above. Sound is also great but otherwise generic, action-type. Now, in terms of cut-scenes, it's like watching an animated fantasy-action-religious movie at the same time as the whole story is somewhat based on the Bible's last book, the Revelation (Apocalypse). Being the first of the Horseman, WAR, you embark on a war for your own salvation of existence after being fooled into starting the final battle. Where this game will take my character? Can't wait to see... It's amazing how a great game like this would be deprived of the hype (reminds me of Demon's Soul) like the one bestowed on CoDMW4 or AC2. Hope experiences like mine would drive sales of this beautiful game.

    Familiar But Still Different!

Seems like any hack and slash game nowadays gets tagged as a God of War rip off. Although I am a big fan of GOW this game does standalone. Yes it does have familiar game physics as some other games but its an action adventure video game. Of course it will be similar in some ways. What makes it much different and unique is the story and the landscape. Its very magical and full of wild enemies. You control War. One of the four horseman wrongly called back for the Apocalypse of earth. You are set on finding who did this. You will encounter the craziest enemies and collect great weapons. There are puzzles that you need to complete in order to move on to your next area. Some may seems impossible but you will eventually find the answer. The graphics are nice but a tad bit choppy at time. So small that I probably shouldn't even mentioned it. Graphically that is my only issue. However I do wish there was a little bit more of a heavier feel to War. For a gigantic beastly horseman from the beginning of time he's a little too light on his feet. Overall the combat is great. You can upgrade your weapons and magic. You will encounter wild situations and you will be immersed in the storyline. I would have liked to have given this a 5 but I feel with the small graphical issue it deserves a 4. They actually made a great game and I wish that could have been avoided. Still I say buy this game.

    Great game, fun to play!

This was a really fun game! I picked this up to fill the void after God of War III and Dante's Inferno. It did just that. The gameplay and plot were great. My only complaint (and the reason I didn't give it 5 stars) was the graphics and the voices. The graphics had that cheesy comic book look to it. Not ripping on comic books, it's just that I prefer more realistic graphics, less cartoonish. Also, for a game with a mature rating, the voices were like something off of a kids Saturday morning cartoon like He-man or Thundercats, or something. (Sorry, I couldn't use a cartoon more recent, but I haven't watched Saturday morning cartoons since I was 5.) My point is, why would you make a game for adults that has childishly fake voices and cartoon-like graphics? In fact, other than a little blood, I don't know why this even has a mature rating. As far as the length of the game, it was pretty decent. You're able to travel at will to any other world you've previously beaten, so you can collect things you couldn't get before. You can fly through the game in about 13-15 hours, or you can take your time going back through the worlds finding hidden stuff and even hidden enemies, and tack on another 5 or 6 hours. However, I wish they had a new game+, because I gathered some new abilities and upgrades at the end that I never got to use. But, over all, this was a very fun game that I had a great time playing. If you're also looking to fill that God of War III void, then I recommend this game!

elda + God of War + DMC + Portal (MINOR SPOILERS)

I feel so very sorry for this game. Why? Because this is a great game, people just don't know about it. Even I didn't know about it until I played 60 min demo through Playstation Network (also available on 360). In demo they allow you to play through a whole "dungeon" (a huge level). Once I played it, I liked it so much that I had to play the whole game. Now that I have finished the game once, here is what I think about it. Pros. CREATIVELY DESIGNED WORLD: The thing that I liked the most about this game is it consists of 6 huge "dungeons" (huge stages like in Zelda games) connected with by a even bigger open world. Each of these dungeons is very creatively designed with plenty of puzzles (don't worry not boring ones). They can very from greenery filled open fields, destroyed towns, beautiful swamps, gothic towers, magma caves, deserts and more. Such variety in stages really encourages you to explore more and move forward in the game so you can unlock more stages. Just loved it. TONS OF WEAPONS: You start out with just a sword, but then you can purchase, find and unlock A LOT MORE short, mid and long rage weapons as you progress in the game (such as deadly scythe, gauntlet, revolver etc.). Furthermore, anything you see lying on the ground can also be used as weapon (Cars, pipe etc.). Also, certain weapons such as shuriken can target multiple enemies and objects. Their creative use is a MUST to progress through the game. All of these weapons can be leveled up and customized (by use or purchase) which adds a great RPG element to this game. INTRIGUING GADGETS: Other than weapons you will also obtain variety of gadgets in this game. Some of these gadgets are horn, grapple chain and a HORSE (YES THERE IS HORSE RIDE IN THIS GAME). There are some cooler gadgets that are unlocked toward end. Really don't want to spoil it for you, but if you want a hint look at the title of this review. Creative use of gadget is required to progress through the game. INTIMIDATING BOSSES: Each dungeon has a mini bosses and when you get through the whole dungeon, you are presented with very imaginatively designed MAJOR BOSS. Let me tell you one thing. These bosses are no push over. Beating them takes combination of skills and creative thinking. I personally enjoyed battle with each of them (almost all of them, except one). DIVERSITY IN ENEMIES: A lot of heck and slash these days have the same looking enemies from the beginning to the end. Fortunately, this game offers variety of different enemies. When I speak diversity, I am not taking about size, shape and color, but also strategy required to beat them. If you just go around button mashing, you won't go anywhere. A lot of these enemies require you to dodge, block and perform certain stunts (for example light your shuriken with fire and then hit them with it) to critically hit them. FANTASY NOVEL LIKE STORY: While all may not enjoy it, this game has a deep, unique and suspenseful novel like story. You have angles, demons, guardians and what not. I would describe more, but don't want to spoil it for you. AWESOME VOICE ACTING: While the central character is a bit dry (for a reason), all the others have done wonderful job (especially a character that is your colleague). I don't know the particular names, but some Hollywood grade actors are doing voice acting, so you won't be disappointed in this area. CONS: FEELS LOW BUDGET AT POINTS: While the most of the game looks gorgeous because it is competing with games such as God of War 3, at points it will feel cheap. However, don't get me wrong, for most part it will amaze you. DIAPPOINTED BY FINAL BOSS: While all the other bosses are SPECTACULAR, the final boss was somewhat disappointing. I truly can't tell you much without spoiling. GOOD STUFF IN THE END: I am talking about gadgets. Some of the best gadgets are given to you in the very end. I truly wish I could have had them earlier. CONCLUSION: Contrary to minor cons, this game has a lot to offer as it takes the best games out of popular games such as Zelda, Devil May Cry, God of War and Portal (YES PORTAL). I totally thought it was worth the price so at very least you should at least give it a try.

Here's the thing, I like this game, but sometimes i just dont have the patience to deal with certain boards. I don't know if it's because i'm used to faster gameplay when it comes to action/hack-and-slash/beat-em up type games or what. Aside from my own personal reasons, the game is still a good game. The story will definitely grab you and make u want 2 keep playing to find out what happens next. Not to mention, War has some pretty unique weapons to play with.

The concept of the game was good, but I think there was mistakes with designing it. First of all, you have to do a lot of running, and you're very slow. It's not always clear about what your supposed to do or go, and it can often be very hard. Often when you run to a ledge and hit X to jump, it doesn't calibrate it right, and just has you run off the edge almost every time. The controls are also very complicated, but are managable. You get more and more abilities as you go on, so one control is added after another, so you atleast have some time to get used to each. Fighting can often be very repetitive. Overall, they could of made many improvements, and I feel that like most games, they'll improve most of these things when they make the sequal.

I was waiting for this game for a long time, only to kind of be totally let down. It wasnt the graphics or the game play or even the story. It was the fact that you beat the game in about 12+ hours, you get a 2 min. ending that sucks, and then thats it.... Theres no, new game plus or stuff to do in the open world after you beat the game. I think im totally gonna give up on these types of games all together. The god of war 3 demo wasn't that good either. I liked the game but if I really had to be a strong reviewer and save other people money, god please don't make the mistake of buying this game unless you can get it cheap on ebay. Hey I gotta cheap copy if anyone wants it!!!! They want you to spend 60 bucks on these games and their not even trying to think of the gamers anymore. I should've waited for dante's inferno. That demo was alright.

Good story line with a lot of cool combo moves. The gameplay was way cool, but I wish there would have been more of it. Seems like it was over before I knew it. I look forward to the next one or an expansion.

This game hasn't been released yet so writing a review is a little pointless, hopefully we can trust the guys over at IGN when they tell us how awesome something is. From what I gather from the last video review this game is going to take the average gamer 15-20 hours to complete without searching for everything. The game supports Zelda like puzzles and mixes it in with GoW style combat with endless combos and abilities to equip to your character this game is looking to be very promising! Hope its a good one.

So far I really like this game, it is very addictive. At first I was irratated becuase right off the bat there were things that I could see but could not figure out what they were or how to get them, there were areas that were innaccessable or chest that were out of reach. I assumed like most games there would be a way to reach them so I wasted a lot of time trying to get them, I figured once I passed the level there would be no way to return, finally I just abonded the cause. As you progress in the game you start to pick up diffrent items or abilities that allow you to access these areas, you will also gain the ability to go back to areas you have already played. In the end you end up traversing the environement in lenghty great detail. The graphics in this game a very nice but as mentioned, a little cartoonish, not as good as GOW3 or Dante's Inferno but still pretty good. The story is an odd "What If" scenario loosely based on the Bible. You will definatly spend a lot of time playing this game, I pretty much played all weekend and I am only about half way through, maybe less. You are sure to get your $60 worth.
