Customers are positive about the graphics and controls in Dead or Alive 6, with many praising the fluid action and responsive controls. However, customers are negative about the extensive DLC and high cost of additional content, particularly the season pass and the difficulty of unlocking costumes. The story mode also received criticism for its weak plot and progression. Overall, while the core gameplay is well-received, concerns remain regarding the game's value proposition due to its monetization practices.

If you are into Dead or Alive Series, you know what to expect here. There is plenty to love here! The graphics are detailed and amazing, controls are tight, and they actually tried their best to introduce a story mode. However, I can’t help but to think they played it a bit safe. They could’ve added more modes and customization options. If you are in a budget and can only get one fighter game,I highly recommend you check out Soul Calibur Instead. It has a lot more features and customization options (for free) than Dead or Alive’s DLC priced at $90+. Overall, I give this game a solid 8. Good but they could’ve done more.

DOA 6 is a nice looking game that runs well both online and offline. The gameplay is fast and smooth. Many of the mechanics are very similar to DOA 5 which was a solid game. There are plenty of unlocks and a weak story mode to keep single player fans busy for a few weeks. Online runs well and does the job, though at the time of my purchase the game lacked lobby systems, so you could only play ranked matches. The game is expected to receive dlc patches to fix and add this content, but the game seems to have a major problem with the high cost of dlc and delayed release of game modes. Overall i think the games gameplay shines through and is a good buy for most fighting game fans.

DOA 6 is both a step forward and a step back for the series. Comparing it side by side with DOA 5 you can tell how much effort they put into the character models, the cotrols are fluid and intuitive as well. This is a top knotch fighting game, and even for full price (with gamersclub discount) I don't regret my purchase. My only complaints are that the process for unlocking costumes is a total pain, and the conspicuous lack of a tag team mode. Otherwise this game is highly recommended for fans of the series and fighting game buffs in general.

Make no mistake. Even with all the negativity and criticism that surrounded Dead or Alive 6 leading up to its release, the game is just as good as the previous entries. The gameplay is still accessible and fast-faced. There are a few new features such as a Fatal Rush (which is a quick simple combo that can be performed at the press of a button), Break Hold (which allows you to counter your opponents' strike more efficiently) and a Break Blow (a semi-powerful super attack). All of these features require a meter which builds up during fights, so they can't be easily spammed. Game modes are plentiful with the standard Story, Arcade, Time Attack, Survival and Vs. along with a plethora of detailed Training tutorials, Combo Challenges and Training options. Perhaps the biggest part of the game is a Quest Mode, where you choose a mission and battle with 3 objectives (which can range from dealing a certain amount of damage in one combo, performing a combo with a set number of hits, defeating your opponent in under 30 seconds, and so on).
As fun as the game is, there are a few flaws. Unlocking costumes is a massive grind. This time, they are unlocked at random rather than simply unlocking by the character of your choice. The game doesn't feel like a massive leap forward in the graphics department, but the visuals look crisp and clean with the action and gameplay feeling fluid and smooth.
Definitely worth the purchase if you are a fighting game fan, Dead or Alive fan, or if you want a fighter that is easy for beginners!

I've been a fan of the Dead or Alive series since the Dreamcast version of DOA2 in 2000. Since then, I have seen the series have its ups and downs. I was a little hesitant when DOA6 was revealed because I wasn't a fan of part 5 in the series.
I am happy to say that DOA6 is a return to the foundations that made this fighting series great, to begin with!
As expected, the visuals are simply stunning for a DOA game. What I appreciate is that they added visual damage to the characters. The damage doesn't have any effect on the gameplay, it's just a nice touch.
The mechanics of this fighter are tight and are welcoming to newcomers while veterans will feel right at home with the quick reflex blocking and throwing counters. I could write an entire chapter on the interworkings of the fighting mechanics but it's fun for the player to discover this for themselves.
Learning to master these characters is streamlined in the training features. Don't understand how to perform a move? Simply have the game give you a tutorial, learn it and then easily return to where you left off in the previous mode.
If I had any complaints, it would be with the stage designs. While some are gorgeous and are multitiered, there are others that fall flat. DOA2 and DOA4 had some of the best stage interactions in my opinion. But this complaint isn't a deal breaker by any means.
The online component is good and so far, I haven't encountered lag or disadvantages. But for me, DOA6 is a couch fighter that I play with friends and guests that come over. There's a lot of excitement when played this way.
At the end of the day, I think you will enjoy DOA6 for a long time to come. With a slew of fighter games being released, I think you will enjoy having this in your collection.

Overall, the gameplay is the best thing about this awesome fighting game. there are several suits included within the game already, you just have to progress in the story to unlock them. The online feature is entertaining and adds to the length of play. DLC's might be tempting, but there are just too many overpriced items. Be careful if you buy one, you could not resist buying another, and so on. The story is ok to keep you engaged in the game and motivates you to keep playing.

Excellent fighting game. The graphics are beautiful, and the fighting is fast paced and fun. My only problem is with the story mode timeline progression.
Instead of just letting you play out the story they let you chose a certain character and play out the scene. After it's over you're taken back to the confusing timeline screen to pick another chapter and they don't go in a particular order.
I had to go online to figure out the best way to play the story chronologically and no one seems to really know, just offered the best suggestions where it seemed like the story made sense. Other than that the game was very fun and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

As a long time DOA fan, I have been waiting awhile for this game, but as the new Mortal Combat is getting ready for release, I wasn't sure if the fighting scenes was going to be on par with others to come. What I did find out was that it had snappy controls and great moves that will get any fight game fans on their feet. Not to mention the game has great graphics.

I remember playing Dead or Alive 3 on the original Xbox back in the day and I loved every minute of it. Then came Dead or Alive 4 which was even better with visuals on the Xbox 360.
What made the older DoA games so much fun were the fighting mechanics and the stage designs that were mostly interactive. You could kick an opponent out the window and watch that character tumble downstairs or just bounce down to a lower level and then continue to fight.
There was a lot to take in visually with the older games.
And then comes Dead or Alive 6. It looks sharp and clean in the character designs but that's as far as it goes. Gone are the multi-tiered fighting stages that promoted the player to try different styles in order to push the opponent out of the area in order to access a new fighting area. DoA6 feels dumbed down and basically a cash grab. When I mention the cash grab, I am referring to the ridiculous 'season pass' that costs $80 just for COSTUMES!
The online matches are decent when you're actually able to find a match. This game is more for you and a guest in the house fight challenges.
There's a story mode that promotes you to play as every character in order to understand the 'plot'. I say 'plot' because well, the story is a cheap B rated narrative. Then again, Dead or Alive has never been known for its compelling stories.
Once you are done with the story, there are some offline challenges you can take on but I got bored of them rather quickly especially when you look at other fighter games that offer WAY more value for the same price.
It's a shame that this series has fallen compared to its earlier installments.

I’ve never really gotten into dead or alive but I’m glad that I picked this up really fun 3D fighter with great customization, simple move to learn but seems that it will take time to really master all of the mechanics which the games tutorial is incredibly in depth. There are many modes online of course plus single player missions, versus, arcade, story and more. One of the things I did don’t like is the ridiculously expensive season pass, but I just won’t buy that.

The game is fun but trying to unlock everything takes forever. Also there are random frame rate drops but it doesn’t bother me. Story mode kinda let me down when compared to doa 5 and I hate that there is so much dlc but overall good game

I wasn't sure about purchasing this game but I am really happy I did. It's a solid fast-paced fighter which has beautiful graphics and decent online play. I am not a fan of the DLC pricing but honestly, I am not even sure it's needed. There is a lot included already and I don't see the need of any DLC anytime soon!

Love the Dead or Alive series and this one does not disappoint!! For people worried- the jiggle is still there, haha. Moves and combos are seamless. The story could use a little more depth but the voice acting is on point. Glad to see old characters brought back and some great new ones added. Such a fun game!!

I have always been in love with this series and this game doesn't disappoint me as a fan. However, it does disappoint as a fighter. This game has a great story and great characters and costumes but it lacks a good fighting mechanic. The new system does streamline a lot of the franchises older issues but adding the hold system was a terrible idea. It basically makes the game unplayable online unless you enjoy hold spammers who make your life miserable. That issue aside, this is a great game that is worth playing but probably not competitively

I've played the dead or alive series since the PS1 and the use of the hold mechanics and fluidity of the combos makes it one of my favorite fighting game series.
This game is a solid fighting game, i enjoyed the way the store mode unlocked under each character to back fill parts missing pieces.
Overall the game is solid, and it's worst thing going for it is it feels like more the same of Dead or Alive 5+ with minimal improvements and changes.

DOA5.7

If you loved DOA fighting games before, you'll love this. It's more like a DOA 5.7 because you can pretty much use 90% of the previous game's moves and mechanics except for the power blows/power launcher which is now replaced with break blows/cancel/break hold on a meter system. There's also the fatal rush/stun which is new to the series. If you rely only on the previous game's mechanics, you can definitely get by but you'll be at a disadvantage against someone who uses the new mechanics. Overall, it's a decent evolution for the series.
The base roster is decent but lacking for someone coming from DOA5LR. Expect more to be added as paid DLCs, the typical business model these days. With Koei Tecmo, expect $1000+ worth of DLCs/revisions for the life of this game. My advice, spend the $100-$150 on characters/revisions and bypass the $900 costumes. Speaking of costumes, the built-in ones now require heavy grinding, RNG unlcoks, and purchase with in-game currency; another modern business practice. Also, the game doesn't have online lobbies. Rank match is the only online mode so you can't play with your friends. The devs said they will patch lobbies in within a month. We'll see. DOA5LR on PC never got lobbies during its lifetime.
Conclusion: 5 stars for the game play as usual for a DOA fighting game. Minus 2 stars for the modern business models and no player match at launch which I believe is an industry first, a new low so to speak.
